So while looking for a laptop for study I noticed Lenovo has nearly 50% off its base model ThinkPad x250, you save from $750 if you have an education email address. This is 5th gen and not current 6th gen so im guessing they are trying to get rid of stock.

You will need to make an account through http://www3.lenovo.com/au/en/education to get the pricing. I have managed to make an account with a tafensw.net.au account instead of the .edu account with no problem. After creating and logging in with your education account just head the Laptops & Ultrabooks > ThinkPadX > Thinkpad X250

If you dont need the better CPU I would customise the cheaper laptop with backlit keyboard, FHD screen, finger print scanner, 6 cell rear battery for 10 hours + battery life and upgrade the RAM and HDD to SSD yourself.

ThinkPad X250 Ultrabook $849, save $750

Be careful with part upgrades etc., as Lenovo have a habit of rejecting non genuine parts (machine does a hardware check). You can usually still find these cheaper on eBay, just look for the FRU number. Have encountered this with RAM and WiFi adaptors so far, not sure about SSD that might be alright.

Bollocks, the only area where they may be an issue is anything around replacing wireless hardware due to FCC requirements. RAM is not a problem neither is the SSD.

      • that's right, and the blocking of wifi card applied to all laptop brand as well. Even Aus stock is affected by this stupid FCC rule.

  • shame only 12.5, my gf is due for an upgrade, she's still using the lenovo from the bulk5 discount deal: http://imgur.com/R30rvi5

I read his comment differently. Blimey.

      • One that would be satisfied with a 12.5" I guess.

  • Thank you this is awesome!

  • Looks like the X250 was a run out model. It's no longer offered for sale.
