Topping NX3 Portable Headphone Amplifier $89.95 Shipped (Save $30) @ Voll Audio

140
NX330

The NX3 is a good portable headphone amplifier for the price. It features the brilliant TI TPA6120 amplifier chip. Realise that this is a pretty niche item for Ozbargain so not expecting mountains of upvotes but hopefully it's useful to someone.

Released by Topping late last year. You can see it discussed on head-fi here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/787953/topping-nx3-portable-headpho…

No profit for us at this price - we've recently started experimenting with headphone gear to see how it goes.

  • Thanks mate, would you have any deal for desktop amps…just want something for use with headphones while listening touaic through PC.
    Thanks

    • +1

Not at this time but we may be stocking some of the SMSL desktop headphone amplifiers soon and if so may have a deal then.

      • Thanks mate…will keep an eye out for them.

Couldnt you use the NX3 on a desktop application? I have the fiio E6 and while it is also a portable headphone amp , i ve used in line with laptop before and sounds great. I also use it with rocksmith on ps3 to either headphone on a un amped line into an old stereo, again works great.

In case anyone cares, the E6 and a pair of Samson SR850 headphones make for an IMo unbeatable bang for buck personal hifi setup for around $60 - perfect for use with your phone or ipod

        • +3

The NX3 can certainly be used for desktop appplications - simply leave it plugged in to a USB port.

Not living up to your username at all!

@chiefbodge: haha your user name doesnt check out either…none of the stuff you are flogging is bodgey

    • I just ordered one of these: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/smsl-sa-160

      • Great price! Don't know how they do it. We'd be losing money if we sold the SA-160 for that.

        • Yeah, it's nuts. And they've sold under 40, last time I checked, so it's not a massive volume.

Looking forward to getting it and having a play.

Wouldn't mind a DAC to go along with it (the best audio out from my MOBO is optical, then a 3.3mm) - got any suggestions? (Might not be buying right away, though, due to just buying this :-)

        • @Mic Cullen: Or 3.5mm, even…

    • Same here decent amp for the pc would be nice.

Stop experimenting with getting headphone products in and start experimenting with stocking your version of an mb42x-c!

    • +2

Thanks for the feedback! This is something we're definitely interested in but probably wont happen for a while as we'd only order at the same time as the Voll B44. It also requires a minimum number of units and I'm not sure how popular it will be.

      • +1

Yeah, I imagine importing in small numbers with a weak AUD would be pretty hellish.

If you can manage to get the mb42x-c equivalent in stock I'd probably be looking at purchasing three, though. :)

        • I'd go 1 or two.

  • General question - could I expect much of a sound improvement using this from my Audio-Technica ATH-M50x headphones as opposed to just plugging them straight into my phone/laptop ?

    • +4

The M50x aren't that power hungry so don't need amplification, especially at normal listening volumes.

      • How about shure 535s?

        Thanks!

        • +2

Most IEMs don't need amplification unless you think they are too quiet when your source is at full volume (due to the high resistance). You might pick up a bit of bottom end by amping if your source is particularly under powered but I'm not sure if it would be worth the expense. There are also much smaller amps that might be more suitable if you are trying to save space in your pocket/bag.

        • @chiefbodge: what about Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 Over Ear Headphones? Will it help with these thru my pc/phone?

        • +3

          @genes888:

Pretty similar situation to the M50x - they're pretty efficient so probably wouldn't benefit hugely from amplification. That's not to say they wont sound better with an amp but the difference probably wouldn't be that huge (although it does depend a lot on your source). That said whether a given pair of headphones requires amplification is quite subjective so it's best to try and do some research on head-fi or similar forums to get a consensus opinion on a given model.

I have a pair of Audio Technica ATH-AD900X - many people say that they don't need an amp to sound great but personally it makes a large difference when compared to the output from my Macbook.

Always impressed by your deals. Gotta love a rep who is honest and recommends not buying their product!

  • OP Question that relates to a product like this.
I have a TV and would like to power my ceiling speakers above my bed. Was planning to use the headphone jack as a source, so the TV speakers mute.
Do you have a small Amp that could handle 2 x 10w speakers ?
I guess it would be like this device, but mains powered.

    • +5

This is a headphone amplifier so only suitable for headphones.

For speakers you'd want to look at our speaker amplifier category: https://voll.com.au/product-category/amplifiers/

Depending on the quality / size of your speakers the amps that we sell might be a bit overkill and you'd probably be fine with a $40 lepai from ebay, for example: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Lepai-Lepy-LP-2024A-Tripath-Class…

    • +1

Ill vouch for the lepai amp - had one for a few years, used to power some car speakers i put into old bookshelf enclosures. It has been used heaps of times outdoors as you can run it off standard 12v SLA batteries. Its currently being used as part of an outdoor projector set up i hooked up over the summer….vey versatile little amp - its smaller in size than a 6" sub.

      • Hmm make a good pc amp, power off the 12v rail and it turns off when oc turns off. As long as it has anti- thump

    • Thanks, that one look perfect

Hi Chiefbodge! Glad to see you're back on OzB with another great deal.

Just an FYI… I continue to blow people away with the Voll Bookshelf Speakers as I've recently moved and had to reconfigure my AV & Listening system and now have the $110 Volls right beside my $11,000 Martin Logan Electrostatics connected to a comparator switcher. I sit people down, put on a bit of Diana Krall then give them the remote so they can switch between the speakers to compare them live. I tell them what the Martin Logans are worth before they hear anything but keep quiet on the value of the Volls right until the end. I've had consistent jaw-dropping reactions every time and I really hope that has resulted in more sales for you as they truly are amazing little speakers.

Still waiting for the Voll Sub though so I can point those looking to setup 2.1 or 5.1 systems in your direction. Any update on that?

Thanks for the feedback SteveAdBelle! Can't really take much of the credit though - that goes to our small chinese manufacturer for somehow producing something so amazing with such a low R&D budget, they are either amazing at speaker design or got lucky.

Something may happen with the sub project late this year. We're also working on some bookshelf speakers that are a bit higher end (about $400 price point), it's looking quite promising but the state of the AUD makes things a lot harder.

      • Oooh!

        • nice work on the sub reminder Steve and great to see another deal bodge.
