I saw this deal on Engadget, it's listed as an advertisement. http://www.engadget.com/2016/02/02/avoid-the-stress-of-data-…

The deal is for liftetime of 2TB backup for ($49 USD ~ 69.48 AUD) also there is a 10% Coupon (GENIUS10). It looks like a great deal for lifetime cloud backup, but I'm very hesitant bc I haven't found anything about Genius Rescue other than other deal sites linking to Stacksocial. Their main site is at http://geniusrescue.com/. If someone has experience with Genius Rescue then please comment. I'm not sure how it compares to Dropbox, Drive, OneDrive, etc. Cheers

  • It would not surprise me if they significantly shrink the allocated space after a few months. If Microsoft can, so can Genius Rescue.

  • 2TB probably won't mean much in 10 years.

woah the prophecy in these words almost reaches profanity — can I have some of that and some 2tb hdd for the same price??

Lifetime. Let see if this company even last for 2 years

  • "The average life span of today’s multinational, Fortune 500-size corporation is 40 to 50 years.

For anyone in leadership at a corporation of any size, that should be a sobering statistic. That means the company you’re tasked with leading has a 50/50 shot at making it past what we mere mortals call middle age. A further sobering statistic tells us that almost 50% of the Fortune 500 from 1999 had disappeared from the list just ten years later."

For anyone in leadership at a corporation of any size

While I'm sure any CEO's reading this will no doubt be amazed and astounded by the reciting 0f statistics they already know what has that got to do with this minnow of a company that is promising a service that no one at all is making money in?

  • Just use Backblaze for free. It's probably going to be around longer.

    • Checked out Backblaze, is the free only for 15 days or am I missing something?

      • Its $5 USD/month

    • yea blackblaze looks more reputable. I think the B2 that is in beta is free, but the unlimited is $5/month

It beats me who is impressed by a "lifetime" offer. It immediately says to me, come in suckers, I've got bulldust for sale.

It must impress someone- the "lifetime" offer is rife at the moment. Seems to have sprung up like a new virus. Is everyone reading the same book or going to the same motivational snake oil speaker? Mysterious

  • Yeah lifetime……. I would feel better if they quoted a per year cost.

I've migrated too many systems because a hosting provider has sold up or liquidated. These deals are OK as off site backups but you might want a copy on a backup drive at home.

    • on their site it has it as $14.95 USD/month for this 2TB deal. It would be "worth it" if this company lasts for +3 months. Still can't find anything on them which tells me they are new, so not sure how long they will last. Their WHOIS info has creation date 2014-10-24 and expiration 2016-20-24 :|
