Samsung UA60JU6400 60" TV (4k/UHD) $1945 @ Exeltek / $1999 @ Myer w' Free BONUS Apple TV

50

I've been shopping for a new TV for a while, with some basic specs of UHD/4k, 55-65 inch, and the brand to be SAMSUNG as I stream Plex and Netflix.

SADLY I missed out on the Bing lee 20% off (I was happy to get a refurbished one), would've been a great purchase.

While I'm still waiting for some better deals to come about or for the new 2016 models to surface, I thought this was worth sharing for anyone wanting it NOW.

While this is nothing compared to previous Dick Smith deal of $1700 odd, I can't find a better price advertised for the TV plus the Apple TV elsewhere. Exeltek are $1945, without the bonus while Myer are $1999. The 3 majors are $2295/$2296 still which is nearly $500 above where they were in 2015.

I'm yet to try pricematch TGG, HN and JB.

So if the offer excludes MGY52X/A and MLNC2X/A 32 and 64GB 4th Gen devices, what Apple TV do you get?

Either way, none of the devices delivers 4K video to the TV.

I'm sure many of the folks will chime in here suggesting a Roku would be the better streaming delivery device

    • I agree Pax, and I'm not a fan of Apple TV anyway. Not through any fault, just not a fan from the limited use I've had. My 4k content will purely be the limited netflix content currently available along with my local Plex server.

I assume the Apple Tv is this one.

The link lists which other TV's it's included as a bonus for too.

I did webchat to Exeltek who claim that the tv has a 2 year warranty, which I thought was only 1 year. They also offered it for $1925 picked up from their Mulgrave (VIC) store.

  • Anyone considering this TV for Movies - I'd steer clear, scores pretty badly.

However if you need a TV for gaming this is really fantastic! It has a very low input lag and really good motion processing.

The blacks and contrasts leave a lot to be desired however. For this price, it's worth a look for gaming for sure!

"Action on the screen is well-defined, and the controls are very responsive. You can still find better options for a dedicated gaming TV, but the JU6400 is near the top."

    • how about both gaming, tv and movies?

      which tv good?

      • Sony X850C. Best value sub $2000 right now. 4K (Ultra HD) and perfect for pretty much everything.

        • I probably would watch tv, movies more than I game..

but still good to know that it can do gaming good.

Too bad, no free ps4 deal with TV

          ==

How good/bad does TV look on a 4k tv?
          including 1080i, 576 tv signals?

Does it show black bars on the TV?

Also how does 1080p, 720p movies, tv shows look on a 4k TV?
Does it look good or better than a normal 1080p tv?

Does the picture stretch to same ratio/look as a 1080p TV?

Too bad no vizio tvs in aus.

They seem popular in USA and feature on Ellen giveaways alot.

Also they would be very cheap and look good.

        • @tyler.durden:

The vizio would probably be more akin to comparing to Hisense, not to disparage vizio.

If you think of Hisense as a monitor, not as a TV, your expectations won't be as broken when you get it home.

A good/decent Hisense TV review is actually kind of difficult to find, i.e. http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2014/08/hisense-vision-tv-australi… but the k720 and xt910's review well enough for HD content, it's just not as sharp on colour matching (greens/blues don't match other TV's), and motion interpolation (smoothing / upscaling) isn't as clear as the higher end TVs.

TV would be a little bit shoddy on the 55" or higher, but it should be acceptable.

        • @toliman:

Are u sure they are comparable?

          Cos vizio is american company.

Also I read on cnet, the vizio gets really good reviews.

          ===

          I would never buy hisense.
Are hisense same quality as soniq/JB hifi or dicksmith brand.

Cos those TVs look crap compared to the Sony and Samsung etc.

        • @tyler.durden: Soniq are the worst, absolutely never buy those.

Vizio unfortunately are blocked from selling in Australia (unsure why). But they do get a very great wrap for the price.

Hisense actually aren't terrible, but I usually say to save more for a better brand / model anyway. If price is a big factor, they could be considered.

They actually have a great relationship with Netflix, so any updates / new features will usually launch on those first.

Why's it worth steering clear for movies?
That's ALL I use it for, and the occasional Playstation stint.

I'm currently running some 6+ year old Samsung's at the moment, so I'm sure ANYTHING would be better than what I've currently got.

It isn't a good TV for watching movies in a dim room. The contrast is very low and the blacks will appear gray. The TV also has judder on 24p sources (Blu-ray movies etc) and doesn't have any features like 3D, local dimming, or HDR. Not that those necessarily matter to most people.

For that price point, I'd stick with the Sony X850C, it's around the same price as advertised here and is more suited to both movies, tv and games.

The blacks are deep, and there's no judder issues when it plays 24 fps movies.

If all you want to do is watch movies and regular TV shows in a dark room, the Sony is the best TV available in this price category.

  • cheers for the feedback Brobux and others. I ended up with a sweet deal in a HU9000 series samsung… now to plug it in… if only work could finish sooner.
