Thought this was a good kit at a good price to go with the 18v ryobi garden gear that flew off the shelves about about a month ago.

This Ryobi 4-piece kit not only features compact drill, impact driver, circular saw and angle grinder, it also comes with 1x2.5Ah and 1x 5.0Ah Lithium+ high capacity batteries for more runtime without additional weight. Further, this kit includes a fast charger AND 3 elements of the new Ryobi Toolblox storage system.

The Ryobi ToolBlox System is the ideal storage solution for any workshop. Each Toolblox unit is stackable and can be interlocked to create a storage solution for any individual need.

Compact drill with 13mm keyless chuck and LED worklight
Impact driver with 170Nm of torque
115mm Angle grinder
150mm Circular saw with laser guide

Isn't this the normal price for this kit?

    • Was around $799 a few weeks ago.

      • if you already have the chargers and batteries from the previous deals, you'd be way better off just buying the skins of the tools you need.
You can get the brushless drill for $129
The impact driver was about $60 in the clearance trolley at Preston the other week.
the angle grinder is $119 and the saw $159

        • "if you already have the chargers and batteries from the previous deals" - jv

I'd think if you got a previous deal, you would already have one or more of the skins, so definitely not worth it. Unless your batteries are getting worn out?

But can buying the batteries and skins separately. From jv's pricing the skins are around $467. Charger and 1.5Ah battery $99 + 5Ah battery $139 brings that up to $705.

The Tool Blox system is new so quite pricy now, but it's a quite decent sized tool chest. The 4-module ToolBlox combo is currently priced at $399 AUD (http://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-4-piece-tool-blox-storage-c…). This one is a 3 module, but even at 50% off the 4 module combo, $649 is a good deal, if you need a toolbox and don't already have skins.

          @twocsies:

I'd think if you got a previous deal, you would already have one or more of the skins

          They were gardening tools…

          @twocsies:

          Charger and 1.5Ah battery $99

Charger and 2.5Ah battery was $60 at Bunnings Coburg last week…

        • @jv: As another person pointed out, the Tool Blox is also overpriced and undersized.

Also, this comes with the older drill, not the new brush-less drill

Doesn't seem that good real when you add up the prices of the skins plus the combo drill kit that always $299 but not on their website

reminder to self - boxes are plastic. keep soldering iron away.

Ryobi is so ridiculously overpriced here. Just have a look for how much they sell in the states, i am aware it's not the identical kit. It's just to show how Bunnings screws us with the local prices.

its a massive difference even if you consider taxes and wesfarmers buying power etc.

Yep… Bunnings has somehow got exclusive rights Ryobi to sell it here, and then inflates the pricing (never putting it on sale unless its old tech and they are trying to get rid of older batteries).

I have quite a few of these Ryobi One skins, and I'm very happy with them.

But rarely are these 'value packs' actually good value.
Better to get the starter kit with the skin of preference, which includes the better battery pack and charger combo. If confused, only look for packs that include the lithium battery with the battery level indicator at the front. These are the 2nd gen batteries are a crapload better than the ones that dont have the indicator.

There's also huge differences in the drills. Most of the time the one included in the value deal has the plastic chuck (the nose at the front that holds the drill bit in for rookies). This is a cheap nasty drill. Look closely at the specs of the one you can buy separately and its a far better drill and has a metal chuck. I think by memory there's 3 or 4 different drills alone… pick up the one with the depth gauge and side handle. No where near a proper hammer drill, but for the money and convenience of having it in the One range, the bst drill of the range imo.

Edited: just noticed the above links posted from amazon. For further clarification regarding batteries, have a close look at the two links. The first link has the cheaper black batteries with no indicators on them. The second link shows the silver coloured ones with the level indicator on them (chargers are different too). Make sure any 'value pack' you buy has the silver batteries in it. Big difference in performance and longevity.

Op's kit isnt bad, because its got the right charger and batteries you want (1x small, 1x heavy duty… its all you really need). Just not great value. Better to get toolboxes separately. Those toolboxes 'look' big… but are very small. The bottom half concaves in to lock into the tray below.

Sorry for the novel, but I've closely watching these One's for years and know a bit about them while collecting the skins I want.

Ryobi must have a short guy (160cm?) for their photos. Each piece is 36 cm high, the wheels add 10 cm, making 1.2 meters, but it comes up to his armpit.

        http://ryobi.com.au/technology/tool-blox

        • Maybe he's the guy that's holding the HJs drumstick.

    • Sorry a bit late to the party but I have been thinking about this recently also. A more fair comparison is with Ryobi tools in Canada, as the $ is at parity with theirs (vs USD) at the moment so it makes for an easy comparison, also they have a Bunnings equivalent - Home Depot which exclusively sells Ryobi I believe, just like Bunnings here. Check out prices https://www.homedepot.ca/en/home/search.products.html#!p=3&q… (note - you have to add 13% sales tax to get the final price).

So on with a few comparisons: One+ Caulking Gun: Oz is $4 cheaper. One+ Angle Grinder: Oz is $46 more expensive! One+ Impact Driver: Oz is $23 more expensive. One+ Circular Saw: Oz is $57 more expensive! One+ Drill: Oz is $21 more expensive… For more you will have to look up yourself, so yeah for most things we are paying a lot more - compared to Canada anyway.

A true ozbargainer would just borrow the tools he/she needs.

    • +5

And not return them. Stupid Flanders.

      • ahahaha:)

  • Not too sure about this one.
I bought a similar kit, but had a bag instead of toolbox, and also had a mulit-tool and decent torch for $400 not that long ago.
Must say, used heaps and still going strong (replaced charger within warranty period)

also worth noting that the grinder is an odd size wheel, so you will be paying through the nose on consumables. Its the only one+ tool I didn't buy when I needed that tool, because of the consumables.

    • 115mm? My electric grinder was also 115, So had cut off/grinding discs anyhow….. Is it that irregular size?

      • +1

Pretty sure they have plenty of those wheels from the same range (and similar prices) as the rest. Sounds normal to me.

        • Maybe it was just at the time I needed it. I priced up the consumables and the ones for the ryobi were 5x the price. IIRC the hole size is different too. Anyway since I knew I needed a lot of them for a big job, it was a no brainer to go for the more common size.

        • @stumo: Hmm, yea, if the hole size doesn't match then that's a bit odd and a potential problem.

  • Bunnings just increased price on most One+ range by about 10 to 20 dollars. Grrr.

    • On alltools? Across the range?

      • Can't say across the range, on the 5 things I was tracking the price went up though.
