  • Not available anymore. Got an email saying unfortunately we can't do it.

    • It's still advised on their website.

      • On the phone with Telstra. They are providing this service as i didn't provide my Telstra's $2 Sim phone number. So i think it should be fine.

        • Well yeah, that would be why.

        • @Porthos: Booked for 5th Of March as installation date and 3 months will be still valid. The offer will be available to grab till April as per Telstra CSR.

  • Just called up to obtain an interaction ID RE the CIS being 12 month contract.
CSR confirmed there was no commitment beyond 3 months.
Processed online order, last page on sign-up says same as the offer page:

    Order Summary

    •3 months Platinum HD free
    •No set-up costs
    •No contract
    •No cancellation fees

So probably not necessary to obtain an interaction ID, but handy regardless.

  • If I buy the $2 pre paid online will I get the details I need to get the Foxtel offer
or do I have to wait until the card is sent out?

    • You have to have active number on Telstra.

Can now confirm that this is available in retail stores as well, and is 100% casual. We have visual merchandising at a store level stating it is such.

    • Does the package include Foxtel GO, if that's the name, where you can watch on your tablet?

      • Yes

  • Just Signed Up, Lets wait and see !

  • Has anyone recieved any other confirmation emails? Beyond the order summary email? How do I know what time exactly they will show up?

    • I've received an email bill activation so far but doesn't really indicate anything about FOXTEL but I'm sure that would be it since I've signed it up under my Telstra prepaid account.

  • Does setup cost includes standard installation? Could just be system configuration etc.

    • its install as well dude.

  • +4

Ordered on 26th, already installed today morning. 3 months foxtel free yayyyy

  • How long does installation take?

Do they have to do much to install the line?

    • They took 3-4 hours for dish installation

      • Was it a good job.?professional finish on install?
Does the wall plate use the same fitting as a normal FTA connection?

My house doesn't come with an antenna or cabling and thinking about this to get the cabling, was plugs and other fitment, then change out the Sat antenna for FTA digi antenna.

    • Installed today, took ~2 hours for the satellite dish and cabling. Wall plate has two F sockets on it, both go to the IQ2.

Also needs an internet connection which they did using a pair of Netcomm (branded Foxtel) AV500 Powerline adapters as the router and TV are ~15 meters apart.

Have to say I was surprised the AV500's worked as well as they did, (~2.5Mbps), since I could never get a reliable connection using a pair of Belkin AV200's even at 5 meters.

WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!! FREE NBA FINALS IN HD, THANKS SO MUCH OP!!!!!

I delayed my install until late March… 3 months takes me to late June, that's NBA playoffs covered. Thank you so much OP, a lovely "me" present :).

Already set the alarm in my phone to tell me to cancel in June ;).

  • Would this be a good/free way to get cable installed in a non-metro area with poor phone/ADSL Internet speed/reliability for later adding/switching to cable Internet while potentially saving on installation fees? The website reports that Foxtel is available at the address entered so there is nothing to loose I guess.

    • +1

Its a satellite dish mate, not a cable… unless you are in an older area that still serves foxtel over cable previously laid on power poles. But I thought they stopped installing customers on that.

Have a look outside on the power poles. Is there a black cable that sits lower than all the rest, about a third of the way down on the pole?

      • That was the old Optus cable, the Telstra stuff is underground.

  • My bed room has poor reception that internal antenna (I have tried over 8 different high gain etc type of antennae) wouldn't pick up any free to air channels unless I ran coax cable from the main living area to my room but that is messy, juat wondering if I have this installed in my room will I have an antenna outlet socket that I can just connected to via normal tv cable or it doesn't work that way? I am not a Telstra customer but have a couple of $30 prepaid Telstra sim from $1 deal from Woolworths last year that I can activate to get the Google credits and use the Telstra account for this. Thanks in advance.

    • doesnt work like that mate.

depending on where you live in australia, free to air can be broadcast on cable… but to get it you'd need to remain a foxtel subscriber, and get the signal through their box.

depends on how bad you want tv there, but you could go on one of their cheap start pack things for like $25pm or whatever it is?

  • I signed up a second time on Wednesday (Rejected first time), and just now recieved an email with my "Account Details". It says:

    Your Account
    Account number: 8******
    Contract term: 12 months
    Foxtel product: Foxtel iQ

Despite the initial confirmation email saying No Contract. Sort yourself out Foxtel

    • Yep, got that as well, but with no account number shown, just blank :(

Another call I need to make today!

    • I Got the Same thing, didn't receive an account number though.

If i wanted to confirm my order, do i call foxtel support or Telstra?

    • Just got off the phone. Called Foxtel - 131999, managed to get the account number, then they put my through to Telstra by Foxtel because I was querying that 12 month bit. Guy confirmed it's all good, 3 months free etc etc :)

      • I got the same so called up and they told me its just a generic email. All good.

    • -2

yeah my PDF says 12 months
and 200 for the set top box and 100 per out let install

      WTF?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • signed up 2 days ago- said they would call me back to see if it could be done on sat or cable…. no one called so i called foxtel up directly by mistake(was supposed to call up telstra). The guys from Foxtel said other people in my complex had it up and running but for some reason mine was deactivated - the guy reactivated it and said there is no reason why telstra cant sign you up. SO i called telstra up and they said we cant then i told them i just spoke to foxtel - they said they would look into it.I asked for a reference number and it sounds bogus…bout to call them back to confirm.

So i wonder whats really going on XD

So to confirm - Foxtel can do satellite but Telstra wont for some reason….

  • How does the installation work? Do they need to drill a hole in the wall or something along those lines? We are renting at the moment.

    • +2

Yes they will need to fit a faceplate for the plug, and the dish on the roof.

Check with your RE agent, most should be fine with it as it's a professional installing it, and the plug will be handy for future tenants (ie I can't see any negatives to it)

    • This varies from house to house. At the very least it will need the wall plate (and in dish location a dish) as spackbace said. But then depending on the house some properties may require conduit to run. Always hopefully they dont need to, but just keep in mind it is a possibility depnding on the building.

  • guys, any idea how long it would take to get the service up & running, from the moment I sign up instore??

    • Depends when you book in for your installation. Provided it can be done on the day first booked then it will be working that day before the tech leaves.

  • just got off the phone to them, everything was going along smoothly until the credit check,
she came back saying I need to of had at least 6 months worth of billing on one of their services to pass or something.
thought this was a bit strange, will go into store next week to try my luck.

  • I had an Indian girl call me up trying to spruik this - talking a million miles an hour and almost sounded offended when I refused haha

  • -3

yeah my PDF says 12 months

Cheers OP - signed up a few days ago and have my install booked for next Friday.

Looks like you can use Foxtel Go straight away (not sure if it affects the three month activation date?)…registered for My Account on the Foxtel website, and am able to use it on my HTPC and tablet…nice :)

    • hmm would be good to find that out, as my install date is the 24th of Feb…

    • My install date is still a while away (22/4), but I got my Foxtel account no. today and registered for a Foxtel ID on the Foxtel website. I can now login to the Foxtel Go app on my smartphone but almost all of the content is locked.

When I login to Foxtel's website with my Foxtel Id to see "My Package", it shows me a message to say that since I am a Telstra customer they don't have access to account and hence I can't watch anything.

Did you had to do anything else apart from registering with your Foxtel Id?

      • No - the entire catalogue was available straight away.

Foxtel Go is only available 30 days prior to install…did you mean to say your install is 22/6?

        • Sorry… my bad. The install date is 22/5.

  • hmmmmmmm
    signed up last week
haven't received a confirmation or a call yet.. and install was meant to be tues/wed

    • horrible. They said they can't find my order even though I got an email from them with an order ID

  • How far of a cable run is allowed for a standard install. I don't wish to have the dish visible from open areas of our small unit.

    • +1

50 metres. Cable run, or if it requires conduit then 3 lengths of conduit

  • Ok, to take the offer, the installation date must be before April or the application date before April ? Meaning if I apply end of March, install in August, I will still eligible for the offer ?

    • AFL Finals? They have a max delay on imstall I believe.

  • When you cancel do they remove the dish as well?

    • Possibly not as when our tenants departed, their foxtel dish was left behind on the roof.

    • No, when you cancel all that happens is you return the set top box. Evertything on the house stays

  • -1

Is there any (good quality) way to feed Foxtel into an HTPC these days?

Back in the day, I used to plug my Foxtel dish and smartcard into a Twinhan card in my HTPC and all was good. But the b'stards took that capability away when they introduced NDS2 encryption maybe 10 years ago. So I took my subscription away.

Wondering if the pendulum has yet swung back in my favour.

    • Couldn't you just use a hdmi capture card? You could then use other software to screencast or stream via dlna. I might do this so I can stream it down to my man cave and into the kitchen. Changing channels no biggy as just want sport.

  • Thanks OP! Applied for late March install for the NBA

    • Spoke to soon…got a cancellation email - credit

      • Chatted with a rep, was asked to sign-up again and gave him the order number. See what happens.

  • +1

Saw a flyer in JB Hi fi for this today. It saids promo ends june 30

    • Thanks.

  • Got mine connected this morning without being an existing Telstra customer. Only needed the satellite decoder box plugged in as I was previous Foxtel customer. When I disconnected last time all I had to do was post back the Foxtel decoder box (at their expense). Cabling and dish stayed. I used it to run my VAST FTA satellite decoder box when it wasn't in my caravan :-)

    • Hmm think you got lucky. As the telstra chat I just had said the offer should've said "For telstra cusomters of 6 months or more" lol

  • When I sign up, there is an option to select "I am a new Telstra customer" if I select this, it says that a new mobile number will be set up for me. Has anyone tried this yet? Does this just mean that they will automatically issue a $2 sim card?

    • I tried that and it got rejected. So bought a $2 sim, registered it and got accepted.

    • When I filled in the online form I don't remember the bit about a new mobile number - I put that down to an age thing :-)

I did go back and start the process again and the actual sentence that comes up is:
"If you don't have a mobile number or need a new one, we'll set it up".
Well I do have a mobile number (just not through Telstra) and I don't need one (from Telstra).

As I said above, I had a visit from a Foxtel installer this morning and Foxtel is now up and running in my house.
I doubt if they will just send out $2 sim cards and expert you to pay for one if you haven't specifically ordered one.

  • Just ordered it for my own house. Was wondering though, my parents have Foxtel in the Kitchen but was wondering if they could sign up under a new name for the sole purpose of having a new connection being installed in the living room and cancelling after 3 months. That way my parents can just move the set top box…

  • my friend has been paying for 6 months $10 a month just for the box, so they dont have to get a reconnection fee for Foxtel.
Now Telstra have advised this is for new customers with telstra foxtel or foxtel direct must be 3 months without service.
As in a way they havent had the service for 6 months, could they work around this?

    Quote this selection

    • I would also like to know this

once u get an email saying that you've selected the platinum plan, u can call up Telstra to get ur Foxtel account number and use Foxtel Go straight away even if u don't have Foxtel installed yet (mine is late March and i'm already using Foxtel Go). ur free subscription won't begin until ur installation date. already confirmed with Telstra Chat

    • I guess thats only when u are moving ,not when u are waiting for a new installation

      • nope im on a new installation

        • That's good , I have my installation date on 7th mar , I gotvthe confirmation email of my order mentioning abt Foxtel go as well, but When I rang Telstra they mentioned it is only when u are moving and u can't get it activated until ur installation date but they provided me my Foxtel account number , I went to Foxtel website and tried to register but in vain … Any ideas what to do after I have my Foxtel account number ?

        • @BenSingh: download the foxtel go app on ur pc and then register thru the app

        • -1

It won't work as you need to have Smart Card Number for registration which comes with Foxtel device. So Foxtel Go will not work unless its installed and registered.

    • Spent over an hour on the phone to Telstra having to reapply as my online application from a week ago had mysteriously disappeared even though I had received the confirmation email. I spoke to 2 different people trying to create a Foxtel id and they both said I can't access Foxtel go until my installation date which is in 2 weeks time.

      • This was at the bottom of an email I received from foxtel yesterday:

^Access to Foxtel Go available for a maximum of 30 days from the date you subscribed to Foxtel, changed your service address or the first day after the end of your cooling off period (if applicable). If your install date is more than 30 days after this date, your Foxtel Go access will be disabled and will be reactivated when your service is installed

      • My application was also unable to be found despite giving the reference number then I had to reapply today, Come on Telstra get your act together.

  • Anyone have any idea as to best deal once you've used up your 3 free months?

Eg. Sport + HD + IQ2 for how much a month ongoing?

I'm thinking could be a cheap way to get HD AFL for the season. Start it in March, start paying $60/month for July/Aug/Sep, and that turns out to be $30/month for HD Footy, then cancel it from there.

Cheaper than the LiveAFL + Getflix option I did last year!

  • I'm a Foxtel customer and I've got the iQ2 box + Platinum package and another standard foxtel box for another room,

I managed to renegotiate my contract today for $104.95 per month locked in for the next twelve months.

Previous bill was $149.95 so I'm happy

Don't be afraid to call foxtel and tell them you're churning providers because they can offer you a better deal, catch being you have to ask..

  • +1

    Finally got the offer.

I just did an online chat, got them to call me back. Got transferred to the Foxtel team and they re-signed me up over the phone. Took 30 minutes, the reason it got cancelled initially was because I had no Telstra profile set up and system automatically sent out a cancelled order email.

I don't think you need to have a Telstra service, although I bought a $2 sim and activated it. They were more then happy to sign me up and encouraged me to tell my friends and family. As their 'sales' haven't really increased at all. The guy I spoke to said he is getting 1-2 more new installs per day at most. And he re-assured me (without me asking) that it is no lock in contract, even with the generic email Telstra will send saying 12 month contract and that if I'm not happy after 3 months to call to disconnect or change the plan. I also did not give any payment details whats so ever.

  • Well installation date is the 29th of Feb, but already I can use the App to view it :)

  • Hi guys I signed up 4 days ago I got an email from Telstra confirming my order but then never heard back from them.

Not sure what I'm supposed to do

    • Seems Telstra have lost a number of orders in there system, I also got the first email and then I called to check on it and they could not find it despite giving the order number. Few comments here saying the same. Will just need to reapply.

      • Thanks aussie28, I will reapply

      • It's because you don't have a Telstra Profile setup and when applying online, it isn't creating it. Best to call them, as they are more then happy to create it for you over the phone and give you this offer.

      • In addition to this, i have heard of quite a few people not receiving an install date or anything. It was set up and in the system, just the person was not aware of this at all and did not make the booking, so then had the reschedule for a date they are actually available on and know there is an install booked for. As perviously said, best bet is to just give telstra a call.

Mine was installed this morning, took about an hour and the tech was awesome.

Watching hd sport as i write this post.

    My experience has been:

Ordered on the date this deal was posted.

Got the same emails as everyone else, saying 12 months etc, clearly it's a generic email so I wasn't worried about that.

Haven't given any billing details. I am a Telstra pre paid customer though for a couple years now.

Booked 3 install options for this week at the time of ordering.

Got a follow up call from foxtel yesterday regarding the install date to confirm it was still on for today.

Tech called me to say he could come earlier and was done in about an hour as there were some cabling issues in our unit. Not foxtels issue though.

We are in a new building so I guess that made the whole thing smoother.

  • So my install is tomorrow and I thought I'd create my account to check the Foxtel GO app. I thought I'd catch up on the last season of TWD and stream it to me TV. Well that was a bad idea, looks like the GO app blocks streaming. So I go back to just watching on the phone and bam the first thing I'm presented with instead of TWD is a 30 second ad. After the ad finishes and I get to finally start watching TWD I realise what a coimplete waste of time it is anyway as the stream is low res compressed junk. Are you kidding me! I'm on a $134 per month plan but A) I can't stream the GO app to a TV, B) The first thin I get to watch on my nice new subscription is a advertisement and C) the quality of the stream is comparable to a 240p Youtube stream.

Wow if the real service is like this there's ZERO chance of them keeping me as a customer. They truly have nothing on Netflix/STAN which have a small monthly cost, zero ads and stream in HD/4k.

    • I use Foxtel go on my iPad iPhone and50" to via htpc and it's not full hd but it isn't that bad either. I'd say it's around in between 480p - 720p range l…I think your connection has something to do with it also

      • Yeah there's no way this was 720p, if it was 480p the compression made it feel like 240. Definitely not my connection though (100Mb)

  • I had mine installed today. Given we had foxtel previously it was a very quick install (just connected up the box).

Given you have to give one months notice to disconnect (afaik) and they bill a month in advance has anyone called or figured out when you need to cancel to avoid being charged the full fee? Also is the commencement date when the account goes live or when the install takes place?

  • +3

Answering my own question I've just got off chat with Telstra and they said: It would be best to call us a week before the offer ends for you to make sure that the offer will be changed and for you not to be charge for it.

    • Thanks, was thinking that myself but was going to call them after the second month.
