these were 63 a couple months ago at coles/woolies.

telstra even gave a free monster headset

  • My old Nokia has finally died and all I need is for calls and txt.

Standby time is good. Can this be unlocked?

    • Sure can. Just search for the name of the phone and unlock code on ebay.

      • Edit ; Why was the link deleted? Just asking.

        Thanks for that, much appreciated.

I have a Huawei U2800 but it's very small and battery life is woeful. Is the Alcatel Pixi actually any good, seeing as so cheap?

        • Noticed the listing was for an overseas seller and wasn't 100% sure if it was the same model phone once i posted it. Figured its best you decide who you purchase from and if you decide to support somebody locally instead.

Can't comment on the quality of the phone. Sometimes Telstra outlets have some of their cheap phone on display to try. Perhaps somebody else can suggest something else but this might be overkill if all your doing is calling, texting and not using any online services such as checking emails, Facebook etc.

Thanks for that. It's all I need for now, but always like to have options built in.

        • @cheepo:

Would rather spend locally. Do you have someone you can recommend, who doesn't make things complicated?

        • @JH100:

Used this guy recently when I had to unlock a Telstra phone. Got it within a few hours and worked without a hitch. Charges $4.49 for this phone.

          Or Bagman as suggested below.

        • @cheepo:

          Thanks cheepo … :-)

  • Wouldn't touch any phone with less than 1gb of ram. Which the telstra pixi only has. The buzz is OK, but if you want a phone for optus you are better with the FIT. The fit is $69 at ow. Another alternative is the optus pixi 3 4.5, which is $49 and much better than related telstra version.

    • But if you only need it for txt and calls?

    • the fit doesn't have android 5 (4.4.4) , the buzz does have android 5, and they both support the 700mhz band. Once unlocked the decision is do you want android 4.4.4 or 5.

None of these phones will ever see marshmallow or further updates.

      • The fit has significantly better SoC and performance is better. Have both phones, prefer the FIT. Also kitkat is better, since it has options to adjust the screen to make it look better than the buzz screen. And you can change the buttons on kitkat with the fit. Also the fit wins in Battery life.

And with updates ZTE are going to give each phone at least one more update.

  • Happy with mine, havent used my tablet since I got the buzz

"The buzz is OK, but if you want a phone for optus you are better with the FIT."

And if optus reception is poor, which it is in the areas I travel and live, the telstra is the better option, especially as it is a blue tick phone.

    • Thanks guys. It sure looks like all I need.

My comment is with regard people buying the Buzz to unlock to use on other networks. The Buzz lacks 900 3g, which means it won't be good for Optus use. Hence better buying the Fit instead, which is a slightly better phone too imo.

What happened? This deal started off as http://www.harveynorman.com.au/telstra-alcatel-pixi-3-4-5-pr… for $29 and now it's something else.

    • Edit ; Ok, got a pixi 3 and unlock code within minutes from Tevas at http://www.ebay.com.au/usr/unlockpov or [email protected] - is that ok to do?

Thanks for the help guys. A great deal for me.

      • Mini review?

Ha, ha … I would but I haven't a clue. All my phones to date have been dumb ones and I haven't been around this one yet except to ensure I cam make calls and txt. I had to google how to open the back to put in the battery. :-)

Correction… Started as a Buzz deal with note about Pixi, changed to a Pixi deal, was reported due to confusion (see resolved comments above), back to Buzz deal with note about Pixi… A very confusing deal.

  • Does this phone have a plug for patch lead?
Or can anyone recommend a budget telstra smartphone with that facility?

    • uses micro usb for charging ….. so cheap leads and cheap chargers.

The Europeans forced manufacturers to have usb charging on phones, or they need to supply a convertor to enable usb charging.

  • I've bought many cheapy smartphones over the years, sometimes to flash with custom ROMS, and the Buzz is the worst of the lot. Grinds to a halt just playing TuneIn in the background and Opera in the foreground. I was led to believe it had 1GB RAM but I'm guessing its really 512MB with about 7 bytes left after the OS has filled its boots. It can take 15 seconds just to respond to a hardware button press sometimes.

Got it for $60ish from DSE a month or so ago. Next time I'll go to the magic bean shop instead.
