    Agreed. Do you know of any decent ones ?

        I just use MSE and have never had a problem…

          Agreed. +Common sense and good browsing habit/skillz.

        • never a problem because half the viruses are not detected

          @2Poor4Ozb:
          spot on. Many people say "oh, MSE is great because ever since installing it I never get virus attacks anymore". Err yeah…

          The antivirus is also an intruder alarm. If you caught a virus and got a warning, then that's a sign the antivirus is doing it's job and has properly detected an intrusion.

          But if it hasn't given you any warning at all since you began using it, saying that you 'never had a problem' is about as foolhardy as saying with complete confidence that: "my house security systems and alarm has never gone off! I'm pretty sure it's deterred all the thieves so far!"

          …when in fact your security system might actually have failed at detecting any attempts so far and thus giving you the illusion that nothing happened. Basically, a cognitive bias.

          @scrimshaw:

          Better example: Haven't been to a dentist in 6 years and my teeth are great, haven't gotten any fillings.

        • That's because you only use your pc to leave comments on ozb

        • @scrimshaw:

          From what I've seen MSE goes OK.

  • Great price

    I would like to just leave this link here: https://code.google.com/p/google-security-research/issues/de…

    And also google "Trend Micro Internet Security flaw google" to get a few results summarizing it.

    TL;DR: Has a gaping hole in it's security that let's malicious web pages run code on your PC without you knowing it. Apparently "patched" but if you read the first link, it won't fill you will confidence that it's properly patched.

    TTL;DR: Won't protect you.

  • it java….. hackers paradise

  • Just my experience so no one get their knickers in a knot, but we used trend in our corporate environment (10,000 PCs + servers) and it was absolute rubbish.

    It didn't pick up much of anything and trend were very slow to support and release definitions or specific patches for known vulnerabilities.

    Obviously a large user base increases inherent risk so this may suffice for the home user running a few PCs carefully, but even then, I would suggest looking elsewhere.

    • We have 10000+ computers at work and use trend micro and it seems to catch everything. However the corporate interface is different.
