Warranty on external enclosure only??? What about the HDD itself?

    • Good Point!

Both Hard Drives have a 3 year warranty, the Enclosure has a 2 year warranty.

Sorry for the confusion, i will update the product pages next.

      Cheers

  • nice price for a 1TB eSATA external

  • can someone give me their opinion on this drive? and the price?
    Thanks.
    Might even go the 1.5TB!

I have got two of these external hard drives which were purchased from another reseller. I love the design and would recommend it. eSata is a huge improvement over USB 2.0 (USB 3 will make eSata redundant) and I get a minimum of 120mb/s transfer speeds (and I think they are green drives inside..).

The 1TB hard drive model is only 5400rpm… http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/2tb-hdd-energy,2371-3.ht…

I have one thing I find REALLY annoying is that when plugged in via eSata - the HDD doesn't stop spinning when I shut down the PC! I haven't done any research on this… Anyone else have this issue?

    • thanks mate.
And sorry to be annoying, but could someone please explain esata benefits/differences to USB.
I understand it is newer technology and faster transfer speeds.
Do I need something special to plug it into my computer? ie. i see it says it connects via USB port to computer, but do I need other hardware?

        u need an esata port.

and its just quicker to transfer.

        • but i can still use this hard drive through USB right? it will just be slower
          the specs say so:

          • Support 3.5Inch SATA hard disk drives with capacity up to 2TB
          • Stylish meshed metallic case provides best protection from overheating and reduces electro-magnetic interference
          • External SATA (eSATA) enable up to 3G Bits/Sec data transfer rate
          • USB2.0 high speed interface up to 480M Bits/Sec data transfer rate
          • USB 1.1 downward compatible
          • Support hot swap
          • PC & Mac compatible
          • Two years warranty on external enclosure/Three years warranty on HDD
          • @mick123: yeah usb will work just slower as you said.
u just choose which interface you wanna use to connect.

But u can only use one at a time.

        Advantages
        - 5 to 6 times faster than USB 2.0 (100-300MB/s compared with 25-35MB/s)

        Disadvantages
        - Does require an external power source (you dont get power through the cable like USB). However a 3.5" external hard drive requires an external power source anyway, so it doesnt matter.
        - Although eSATA is hot swappable (able to connect and disconnect without restarting comp), an older computer might not support this.
        - No 'Safely Remove Hardware' feature like USB, so you should check if you're running/copying any files before removing cable (or shutdown comp first to make sure).

To use eSATA you will need a eSATA connector on your computer. i think you can buy a eSATA PCI card if you dont have one. But USB 2.0 is fine, unless you really have lots of data to transfer on a regular basis.

        • "But USB 2.0 is fine, unless you really have lots of data to transfer on a regular basis."

Which I don't (its mainly just storage of files) so USB looks good to me.
Thanks a lot for the info

        • I get a safely remove option for my esata HDD, using both vista and 7 (not sure about XP).

  • Great price, when you factor in the free shipping it's about the price of an internal drive of the same size.

  • am i able to use both the usb and esata on two computer?

    • +1

nope tried it once one of the ports is in use the other one doesnt work.

  • Any chance of a 2TB one?

    • Hi,

I don't have any in stock but could order some in if people are keen? Maybe you can let me know.

Price would be $240 for a Hitachi 2TB with Free Postage or $310 for a WD Caviar Green WD20EARS with free postage.

If people can let me know I will get some and add to my site

      Cheers

      Adam
