    Same price at MSY

Same processor as in Synology DS215+ (~$399)
RN202 also has 2 GB RAM vs 1 GB in DS215+

Good little NAS - its the replacement for the ReadyNAS Ultra2.

That said, for $23 more you can get an HP Gen8 microserver, with 2GB ram (and support for 16GB), 4 drive bays, plus support for internal SSD/2.5" disks.
Run FreeNAS or XPEnology (Synology OS) for good free NAS OS.
Slightly more technical knowledge to set up (just follow a guide), but once set up, runs like any other NAS.

Agree. I have had a readynas duo for years and wouldn't use it (not that you can anyway) for anything that requires much in the way of processing. Simple storage of files? It's easy to use and effective - yo momma could use it. If you are doing more than that then you need something a bit more beefy than just a NAS.

    • Good information. Personally I'm waiting for the ASRock C70M1 or equivalent to be sold in this country. 4 Sata3 ports, ~$50 (embedded CPU).

    • Does the Gen8 support RAID5? I'm considering getting it if it does.
      Cheers

  • I don't know how this compares to the rn312, but I can't fault the 312 for my home NAS. Heaps of functionality, never missed a beat so far after about a year.

  • Does the software/interface easy to navigate? never used netgear before. thanks

    • The old IOS4 was pretty average, but IOS6 is quite nice. Pretty graphs etc… easy to navigate.

It did take a while for me to find the virtual power button to gracefully turn the NAS off - turns out its a Power icon beside the picture of the NAS on the main screen.
