All Standard Tickets $10 (3D $12.50) @ Reading Cinemas VIC

453

Saw this via their facebook post

Reading Cinemas appears to have taken the step to make a trip to the movies more affordable…

Standard Tickets - $10 (3D $12.50)

*No exclusions
*No expiry - this is the new ongoing price
*$1.50 admin fee per ticket applies when purchasing online

Let's hope that Hoyts and Village follow suit.

UPDATE 9:45AM 12/01

Reading have responded to me that prices do vary from location to location

It looks like the new price is in VICTORIA

I have updated the title to reflect this

UPDATE 11:55AM 12/01

I tried :(. Majority got lucky. It seems from the comments even some VIC stores do not have it, namely Sunbury or Chirnside Park. At most this is an alternative option to the Optus/Telstra Thanks tickets without all the hassle.

Makes Optus perks pretty useless now (Reading movie tickets @ $11, thanks Optus!)

    • Yep and the Telstra Thanks Village tickets… if you don't have a preference on the cinema you go to

      • +1

Yep, was shocked to see Telstra Thanks now charge $12.50 plus $1 booking fee at my local Village Cinema. $27 for 2 adults.

It was cheaper (Tuesday) for me to pick up the tickets at the counter (before dinner before the movie). I just checked online beforehand to make sure there were plenty of seats, and told the attendant where we wanted to sit, as I could pull up the seating map on my phone when paying for the tickets.

Sounds more like Village is 'thanking' me for using Telstra Thanks…

        • I bought tickets $12.50 without the booking fee. In fact this is the first I've heard of them applying the booking fee with Telstra Thanks…normally it's waived. I'll have to check the next time.

        • JusT create a vmc account. Then no more fees

    • Maybe they're trying to compete with Hoyt's recliners.

Is this really a bargain? These have been standard reading prices at Dandenong for a while now. Hoyts and Village will not follow suit, me thinks.

    • +2

Yes it is a bargain. You save $8.50 from now on every time you go. It was only posted by them on facebook last week. At most it would have started at the start of school holidays.

      • As I said before, I see the sign whenever I am in Dandenong (most Saturdays) for Grocery shopping. And I have been going there for years now …. therefore, maybe a regular price?

        • What happens in Dandy, stays in Dandy..
          Thanks for sharing

        • its been the regular price at dandenong for ages now, I presume the deal is for all other Victorian Reading cinemas

        • Been $10 at Melton's Reading for years now too

    • +1

The standard price in Newcastle (Charlestown) is $8.50 at Reading Cinemas.

At the nearby Glendale Event Cinema, they're an exorbitant $9.50.

I just take it for granted that cinema tickets are always under $10… but if I'm in Sydney, I'm shocked to see that they're more like $19. So, I think there's a lot of variance between cinema prices in various regions.

  • They've been $8.50 for awhile now in Newcastle, it's great to see them lower prices across the board

  • Great price but Melton is just too far.

    • +1

Its been that price at melton for about a year too

      • +1

I've been to that cinema 2 months ago and yes I can confirm it. I actually liked that cinema in particular. Reminds me of how Hoyts used to be like in the 90s. Or maybe it's just me…..

        • I can remember high point Hoyts in Essendon, was eerily similar with its entrance inside a massive shopping centre

  • looks like its only $10 for the school holidays so dont get your hopes up.
    website says $10 holday tix.
i imagine in a few weeks the main cinemas will be up to normal prices with a few outlying cinemas keeping their 8.50 tix and inline bargains for optus etc.

they would be marketing it more heavily if $10 was their new standard price.

    • +4

Reading replied to me and said this is now the new price ongoing

  • Price at Auburn NSW shows $18.50 to me on Wednesday!

    • I've sent a note to them for clarification as the others I have tried all show suburb special $10 in some cases $8.50

    • States a fact. Comment gets negged.

    • Rhodes is much cheaper and not far from Auburn, both are on the T1 line.

  • When was the Facebook post? I can't seem to find anything on the "Reading Cinemas - Australia" Facebook page…. Don't know when to look for though…

    • I read it via the Epping page - looks like its VIC only (at this stage) - Post updated

    • They all have cinema specific facebook pages I guess. I follow their dandenong Facebook page.

  • Nothing Special here…. this has been on for 1.5years

  • its been $8.50 at Charlestown, NSW for a couple of years now.. never realised it was so much at others

  • Looks like VIC only everyone - I've updated the post. Other states may already be cheaper already. Or still ridiculously expensive.

  • +1

The price is coming up as $18.50 for me when I select Chirnside Park, Victoria.

    • same for me.. and there's a banner saying the chipmunks movie is at $10

  • This has been the standard price at Reading Cinemas Dubbo for a while now.

  • +1

Village in Geelong charges $10 to match reading cinemas.

  • +2

Reading in Melton has been $10 for a couple of years now… They started it as a Christmas promotion but it was so popular they kept the price :)

    • Meltons the best!

    • It was the "Re-opening" price when the shopping centre re-opened after being redesigned. They've kept it going, as you've said. They must be turning a decent profit from it too.

  • +1

tried to book online at sunbury and the price still showing $18.50

    • Dang it!

I recently checked the website and the Tight-arse Tuesday offer had conditions for Sunbury as well.

Looks like I'll need to keep buying vouchers.

      Thanks for the heads up.

  • $10 at dandy. Been like that over a month. Walked past one day after lunch and thought…. $10, bargain. And watched the new Mocking J.

  • +2

We've had $10 standard movie tickets at reading in Geelong for quite a while - probably almost 12 months?

Does suck that it varies by location, but $10 for a movie is still a good price compared to paying around the $18 mark in the past!

    • Yeah, since their renovations were completed they offered $10 tickets as a promotion.

I imagine they saw a large increase in the amount of people going to Waurn Ponds compared to the rest of the state and decided to keep tickets at that price.

  • +1

Just checked the website for Belmont in WA, looks like they're $10 there too. This is nice, I hardly ever go to the cinema because of the exorbitant ~$19 price (well, actually I get the $10 optus tickets, but I have to get a mate to buy them for me, too much of a PITA, can't do it spur of the moment etc)

    • +2

Reading cinemas in Belmont is my cinema of choice. Affordable tickets, great customer service and the theatres are cold and not stuffy. I've seen people armed with sweaters and even beanies in the heat of summer.

    • +2

This has been the price at Reading Belmont for at least the past 6 months. They do Gold Class for around $27-29 from memory too - pretty cheap. Plus it's a great cinema.

      • Really? I guess I haven't been in a while, it's like the 3rd most geographically convenient cinema for me haha.

        • Yeah I go there quite regularly - good cinema. Only pain is they don't do assigned seating.

  • If they include Chirnside Park this will be great. RACV prices have gone up now :( (or back in Oct I think)

Had a conversation with 2 parents the other day. They took their family to see Star Wars. They both spent around $100. They couldn't believe how expensive it was, but paid anyway without complaint.

    Not for Ozbargainers!

    How the other half live….

    • We are the 1% haha

    • They subsidise it for us.

      • +2

And they choose to do it! Nobody forces them. Lol.

Still, you have to keep the inner Ozbargainer 'in the cupboard' so to speak, as, despite being completely rational and intelligent, 'normal' people would treat us like freaks if they knew what we did.

        Oh what fools they are!

Oh, and thanks for subsidising us!

"What was that you were saying, Mr and Mrs Average? You paid how much?! Oh, that's, erm, good. Yes, things are expensive these days, but what can you do? Just pay up, I guess….."

  • +1

Chirnside park reading cinema haven't had a refit Since opening. Worst theaters ever, old craft sound, picture. Not worth even 12.50. Would rather go to croydon.

But I always go to village with telstra anyway.

  • Thanks OP.

  • "It seems from the comments even some VIC stores do not have it, namely Sunbury or Chirnside Park."

God (profanity) damn it, I'm 5 minutes down the road from Chirnside and was half pumped to see Star Wars for the 8th time.

Anyway, to all the other people in that area disappointed, remember that Croydon Cinemas is well cheap. Any movie on Sundays and Mondays after 6pm is 6 bucks, and if you join their member club thing ($10 fee, includes a "free ticket though) you can get an 8 buck ticket for any movie, any session.

Obviously though, Reading are a shitload better than pissy little Croydon, but if you're feeling cheap and just want to see a movie (totally understandable, screw paying 20+ dollars a ticket at Hoyts) then Croydon are more than serviceable.

    • +1

see Star Wars for the 8th time.

      u wot m8?

      • Realistically it's probably only the 7th, but we've seen it a fair few times. There was the midnight premiere, then a couple days later on cheap night, then again later in the week, then again again, then again but with a couple of friends, then again, then the other day and so on.

I like Star Wars. They could make a 2 hour movie of just Jar Jar stepping in shit over and over and I'd still see it probably.

    • I've been to Croydon twice in the last couple of years. They had the air con on so high it was freezing in there. Never again…

  • It's been that price here in Melton since the shopping centre was reopened. I've loved it. Decent cinema too :)

  • Been the standard price at Reading Townsville for some time also. It gets me to the movies more often, hopefully the trend catches on and we all get to go to the pictures more often :)

  • +1

No change in SA from what I can see, still $17.50.

We purchase our Reading tickets online through the Entertainment Book for $11.00 each. Slightly worse off, but I prefer less people in the cinema with me so maybe it's best if the standard price stays high.

    • I hear ya!

Sometimes I take a couple of UDL cans in and snacks and it's just me and one or two others :-D

I sit in front of them and it feels like I have the whole cinema to myself. ;-)

Monday 6pm session seems to be a low point

  • Anyone near Chirnside Park on FB wanna like my post? Maybe they'll see there's a market for cheaper tix.
