  • Can someone talk me out of this please.
There is always something wrong with these USB deals. Either speeds are slow because newer models use different hardware now, or the thing will fall apart.

What about this all metal stick? https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B017DH3NOW/

Read the reviews, most are positive but a lot of people say it gets hot quickly. Do you want it for durability or speed or both? The drive I stand by is the Sandisk Extreme which read/write speeds are some of the fastest out there. The 128GB drive is around $99 though so almost double, plus it's plastic not metal. It does have 260/240 read/write though. This drive has 150 read and 60 write.

Once you go a fast drive it's hard to go back to something slower, especially anything USB 2.

      • I second the Sandisk Extreme, it's pretty much replaced all my other ones, and it pounds the speed.

        • There are other drives available??

        • @nickxau:

          Speed, Speed, Speed.

    • get samsung portable SSD then

    • That thing looks pretty sleek.

But I'm more into this one:

      Samsung

This will work on any Android device.

Someone posted their crystal disk benchmarks and it outperforms the Sandisk. The write speeds on this Sandisk are not very good.

      • If I'm not mistaken and if this is similar to my USB 2.0 version, then it doesn't have onboard memory so it'll only be as fast as the micro SD card that you put into it.

        • You are mistaken.

There's no microSD card. It's got flash memory imbedded in it like any other USB stick. That's why they sell it in 32, 64, and 128GB varieties.
