ALDI Wireless Pool Thermometer $29.99

90

Masters sell one with only minor differences to the design for $99 which IMO is far too expensive given that anything you leave in a pool will only last a few years.

Still seems a little expensive, but I guess if I wanted a wireless one I would want it to be wifi. I just buy the non floating $2.50 standard thermometer and leave it on the edge of the step. Lasts about 18 months.

  • Good price for a better quality unit than the generic ones on the market. I bought the generic one that's all over eBay for $25 dollars 18 months ago and its still working well, so I am sure it will last at least two seasons. You have to make sure you seal the thread with plumbers tape though or it leaks like a sieve. The biggest issue with it is the lack of range. This unit here looks to be a couple of steps up quality wise, especially in terms of sealing and robustness. Not sure about range, but looks as good so far. Can't believe they can't put a one dollar memory chip in it to download temperature over time for historical purposes to PC/tablet etc. Maybe next year lol.

    • Update: I was wrong about the sealing. The transmitter unit only lasted 3 days before water got in and the unit turned off. Terrible. I suggest people use plumbers silicon tape to seal around the o-ring where the clear cover meets it. Also the range is not as good as the cheapo generic ones off eBay. I have a thick concrete pool that is slightly elevated and the generic eBay model reaches the receiver most of the time, but this model doesn't reach at all. I will try the another channel in case there is interference between the two but I doubt it.

  • I had the Masters one. Looks identical. Very impressed with the quality.
However the range was not as good as I hoped and I could not find a position in my house about 10 meters away where it would not drop out. Possibly due to my thick concrete pool? Returned to Masters for the $99 refund.

For $30 I am tempted to buy it as I really liked the floating unit in the pool.
