I had been thinking about buying this, but too many bad reviews on the touchpad and build quality. Try it out at JB/DSE before you buy this.

  • Also a mountain of refurbed units in Dell outlet for $459. Whatever that may mean.

  • I bought the Pentium version of this (refurbished) for my son a year ago. Good for school, in that it has 5MZh wifi (which some schools require), good battery life, and light. The refurb units have 12 month warranty, so a good deal if they happen to have one available.

For new, this is a good price.

I think 4GB is not really enough memory. Having an i3 helps, but I'm not sure the memory is upgradable.

I had one of this - track pad is slow and terrible. Build quality is very poor, lots of cheap looking plastic.

Only pro was bright IPS LCD screen. Ended up selling it.

  • Bought one of these for $439 refurbished in March 2015

I recently upgraded the included 4gb ram to 8 gb and put in a 250 gb SSD (Amazon deals). Upgrade process was really straight forward.

Now after the upgrades this became my daily driver. Quick boot up, lightweight and good battery life. Can't comment on gaming because I did not try that.

There were some issues with touchpad that were resolved after driver updates.

Other advantages are one usb 3.0 port, touch screen, dual band wifi and easy access to internal components (for upgrades or cleaning)

    • Hi kurnugi. I know that this deal is now closed, but I am keen to buy one of these from the Dell outlet and would be grateful to know a bit more detail about the upgrades you mentioned. I had a bit of a look on Google and didn't have much luck. Cheers

  • I think these are a great machine for the price. A colleague of mine bought the HP envy 360 and we compared it. Build quality of the Dell is a lot better. I have read a lot of bad reviews on the touch pad but I've updated the driver and it's fine for me. It's not the same quality as my Macbook pro touchpad but I didn't pay $1800 for it, so I'm not expecting much from that. If you're just using it to check emails on the train, browse in bed as a tablet and the usual word processing it's fine. For the price and build quality you get this is a good deal. Also this touchscreen doesn't have an active digitizer so if you want to take notes/draw with it you will need to be prepared to be frustrated.
