A Cashrewards-like service for your Telstra prepaid recharges!

How does it work?
  • Every time you recharge your Telstra Freedom Plus prepaid service, you get same amount of what you pay as recharge credit in addition to data and call credit.
  • These recharge credit can be used to pay in-app purchases on Android.
  • You can spend your recharge credit in T-cashback app and we will give 50% back to you as cashback.
Example
  • Olivia is using Telstra $40 Freedom Plus prepaid plan. After each recharging, she gets unlimited national calls / texts, 3GB data, $350 international call/text credit and $40 recharge credit, which expires in one month.
  • After recharging her Telstra service, Olivia opens T-cashback app on her Android phone and spend all her $40 recharge credit on in-app purchase. After the in-app purchase transaction confirmed, Olivia will receive 20 dollars cashback to her bank account.
  • Therefore, Olivia only pays $20 for her Telstra service and she can save $240 per year.

  • Sounds like $40 paid to the developer for the in-app purchase, they give you $20 back.

Developers get 70% of the IAP, Google takes 30%.

    • We only get 70% and Google/Telstra will take 30% as transaction fee.

We also need to pay our app development, 24x7 hrs servers and other costs.

50% is the initial rate and we may adjust it in future.

Cashrewards.com.au is not passing all rewards as well.

  • When does this expire?

    • -1

As long as Telstra allows prepaid users spend their recharge credits on play store, so there is no expire date.

    these apps are scam.

used a few of them and they gave nothing back.

Could you name any other app providing this service that dishonoured your cashback?

  • +3

Just to be clear, t-cashback is an unaffiliated third party, so you give them all your recharge credit via an in-app purchase, and they promise to give you some cash in the near future.

To their credit, they are quite upfront about this on their website, but there is certainly an element of trust here

    Rebatr (55%) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.anzurlabs.…

    and Payback (50%) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nikkell.pa…

Are two other applications that offer this service. I personally can vouch for Payback, have received over $100 only takes a day or two. This service apparently takes weeks.

    • I've used Rebatr twice and both times it was very prompt. Money back within hours.

So i guess we can kiss goodbye to carrier billing come monday, seeing what happened on the last 2 occasions that telstra was exploited via ozbargain.

      Thanks OP

  • +10

You guys are going to get Carrier Billing disabled.

  • +9

Seriously, props to you for trying but you're actually ruining it for the majority of people.

Guess we'll see carrier billing from prepaid get removed.

  • If we don't comment… it wont be in the top forum comments…sorry, had to comment, to say don't comment

I am with those who are against exploiting Telstra google play billing.. Being too greedy never ended well..

      Just report the post

  • "you can get your cashback by the end of the next month following your purchases"

good luck with that lol.. other apps pay money very much quicker and plus one even pays more money

  • I can see the end, enjoy it while it lasts.

  • They're not working already.

  • Sorry, digging up an old post.

How does doing this ruin it? Don't get it. I don't see how Telstra loses out? Cause this would be no different (from Telstra's point of view) to Telstra having to pay $40 (using example in OP) for 5x $8 apps on our behalf right?

I think I'm missing something.. someone care to fill me in?

    • Am I allowed to "bump"? Seeing as no one has replied.

      • Violates some ToS or other, and increases demand on buying discounted sim cards that would have otherwise not been purchased, which alters their metrics for tracking new customer signups etc.

The last time someone leaked on ozb a Telstra exploit, it got closed up completely. We're super lucky this hasn't been closed up, but it seems Google Play has been taking down app devs who have been monetising this for commercial use. (as in, completely taking down their dev account)

  • I think the app has stopped working right? I just tried it the other night. Sent $20. But hasn't received anything in my paypal account yet. Any ideas what to spend my Google Play credits on?

    • Books or pokemans IAP

    • The app is working well. If you purchased in June, your cashback will be available around 20th July, as Google pays developers on 15th of each month.

We will transfer all cashback to your nominated bank account. For security reasons, paypal account is not supported.

      • Please explain what security reason here? As Paypal is a worldwide known payment platform

        • App developers cannot know the payment method that user used for in-app purchases, which means developers cannot tell if user is using someone else's bank cards to get cashback. An Australian bank account can help to identify the person if there is credit card fraud.

You can always open a saving account with online banking service and use it to receive cashback, most banks provide this kind of account for free.

        • @Cloudream:

Sorry, but I thought using PayPal you can still know whether the recipient is legit or not too, right?

        • @Cloudream: please answer my previous question…
