  • The delivery charge ruins this deal.

    • What delivery charge. $0 for me in Sydney.

      • Scrub that, changed postage from home to work and it dropped to 0

        • Can you guys check if you did end up getting charged for delivery fee. I ended up being charhed $10.86 unknowingly for this. It got taken out of my paypal.

      • Same here $0 standard delivery in Sydney

Online price has been live a few hours. Just got a price beat at office works for $94.05.. Bargain.

    Nerang store.

    • me too - thanks

Also just collected from Officeworks, couldn't get past DS's online store, kept failing on my address!
Amazing device for $99, gives me some wm10n action after returning my 1520

  • So would this be suitable for someone who is visiting over Xmas and new year and going back overseas, what's the chance of a free unlock from Optus?
Is this really the best price out there?

  • cant process at the check out as it keeps asking for my delivery address, which has already been placed correctly, i guess this is another dicked deal from DSE.

    • You can checkout with PayPal, avoiding having to fill in any details.

transaction for $99 went through via PayPal with no problem

  • Looks like this $99 "online exclusive offer" lasts until the end of the 25th so be quick! No click and collect on this one.

The good news is, this falls under the free delivery special they are having for items $99 and over at the moment too. Great if you want to avoid the crowds and not wait to get the $99 in store deal on the 26th.

    • It has changed to end on the 30th BUT the free shipping ends on the 26th

Have been using my 640 for a couple of weeks.
Good camera, but not great, same with screen. Not quite the same clarity as the high-end Androids but for the money, very happy.
Runs swiftly on Win 8.1 but keen to try out 10 when it OTAs.
Biggest asset is the battery. Two days on medium usage, more that 3 on light usage. very impressive — and the battery is interchangeable.
    I paid $129. For $99, it's a no brainer.

  • Virtually none of these left at Officeworks in Brisbane if you are wanting to get a price beat. I'm guessing the OzBargain community were quick to move on that deal.lol

Cheers OP. Price beat at office works Hobart @ $94.05. Paid with Coles group card, so less than $90 all up. Replaced my 630. Love the slightly larger screen, better camera with flash….and rear facing as well.

  • Got one from Dicky! impressed, Also got unlocked via the optus app chat (android) for free… they were very helpful….stoked!

    • Hi, could you please tell me which Optus did you use to chat for unlocking? There are a few apps on Google play store.

      • My optus app on Android

    • I just get referred to the unlocking instructions link every time, what do you say to them?

      • I told them I was going OS first and that someone else bought for me…

  • Just picked up 2 X $50 DSE vouchers from woollies which come with 10% extra credit. Then grabbed one of these after leaving my 735 on an Adelaide bus on Xmas day. Happy having more screen real estate, front camera ordinary is the only real difference otherwise…fortunately I am not a narcissist.

    • Can you stack 2 $50 vouchers when buying online?

      • I am not too sure mate. Give it a try?

Kmart at Oxenford price matched the 640-got it for $99 after I showed a staff member what price was on Dick Smith's website.

  • for those who are looking for this phone. There is not any stock in Highett, Vic. In Carnegie Vic, was one phone, which was on hold for me, but the rep & manager refused to price beat the deal. They told that it was restricted by their office. Wasn't able to reach the office (waited 7 minutes on the phone and gave up). Called to Chadstone (Vic) officeworks and they told that they have plenty of them. Drove there, and a really polite rep-guy matched the price (he just asked to reload the page with the deal in my phone) without any hesitation. As a result bought it for $94.05 - %2 (using ING visa pay wave)…

If somebody is close to Chadstone, give it a try.

  • I got Officeworks to price beat it today. At first they refused to do it saying Dicksmith is on liquidation and the phone was on clearance but I insisted that's not the case and eventually they obliged. Check at Officeworks Carnegie, Elsternwick and Chadstone. They might have some in stock.

Can confirm the phone works with virgin sim card

  • Do I need to have some credit to connect to My Optus Android App or it can be done through WiFi?

    • you will need to connect on an android phone as this is windows… no my optus for windows…

      • Thats what I was doing. But i haven't got any credit on my optus sim. I just activated it. I was hoping to connect to MY Optus through wifi and chat with optus. But I am unable to connect.

Edit: I was eventually able to connect but was unable to convince the guy on chat to provide me the unlock code.
Can anyone please tell me where can I unlock the phone for cheap?

        • Keep trying until you get an operator that will.

  • What? No earphones included. But you need some to plug in to listen to the radio! Talk about cutting costs.

    • +2

I've never used a set of earphones that have come with a phone, I think only the poor do that.

      • Obviously not a real Ozbargainer. FYI - you need to plug in a set of earphones to act as the antenna even when using the radio on loudspeaker.

Hi guys, so I managed to price match with office works yesterd at Pitt st and also got the free unlock code
How I did it, activated the sim only, downloaded the my Optus free aps and use the chat function on iphone), first time they just sent the unlock link, boo. I tried second time and I said goin overseas and the phone is a gift and will be used outside oz. I also said tried the link but didn't work, voila they gave the passcode to unlock on the spot.

    Good luck.

    • +1

Yeah same.. Took me 4 operators and probably an hour of my time messing around with them but got it unlocked eventually.

    • I got an unlock code thats 20 digits and some instructions to input #PW+ and all sorts of stuff and can't seem to unlock it. Is that was you guys got from them?

EDIT: Problem solved. They gave me the instructions for the old brick mobiles instead of the newer smart phone. All good!

      • Just put non optus sim and turn on the phone it will ask for unlock code.enter the code and done.

  • Does anybody know if this product qualifies for the cashback given it has office installed on it? https://www.microsoft.com.au/officecashback/

    • I don't think it is. Cashback is for office 365 purchased seperately. Check harvey norman and you can see the prices after cashback are seperately mentioned for only office not on devices that come preinstalled with office.

  • Officeworks in Campbellfield would not price match :(

  • Is this the same as this one at Dick Smith: ?

The same except this one is blue, unlocked and over $100 more.

Just search for Optus Lumia 640. It's still $99 delivery only on the site. Use the code NEWYEAR20 AND GET $20 Off the price.
Using the code It was $10 delivery for my area and brought the phone down to $89.

    • Thanks pufffdragon

    • Hmmmmm, $89 delivered eh……I couldn't use the code……its excluded of course.

      • Yeah,I got an email from them about the error. They were quick act. No $89 phone for wife now:(

Thanks OP, I had been waiting on a deal for the Lumia 640. I had Officeworks price match and beat by 5%!! Cheers

  • Just confirming this is a single SIM version? I'm looking for the dual sim version.

    • Yes single sim. I think the unlocked sold for 250+ is also single sim version.

Regarding 'claud0902's earlier comment. Thank you for your solid insight.
Windows' phone & OS is a plain cheat, I have a phD in Computer Science so don't argue people.
I think a Windows Phablet (with full OS) may be the best portable device to date, if build quality and important specs are up to scratch.

A late thanks for the post. I got the phone early on the 26 in shop and happy with it, my motoG died couple days earlier and this one was a quick solution.

My first win phone after years of Android, I like it, wish had few more apps and latest version, but it works well
