Original eBay 15% off COLLECT15 deal

Posting this separate as this is well worth a separate post and the previous deal is prior to click n collect and may have been forgotten https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/220639

With Summers about to hit its peak christmas and New Year, a good investment in a calming misting fan is well worth for budget conscious or ones with no AC in living or bed room.

Masters ebay store has already discounted this fan 40% of its original price of $89.00 at $49.00 >> Save 15% via click and collect [COLLECT15] the total comes to $41.65

If you purchase via cashrewards.com.au you can save further 3.300% via cashback. of $41.65 that's additional $1.37 off bringing price of the fan just close to $40

I personally hate cross base stand fans as they more often than not do not balance and topple over. This fan is with a round base.

The fan is trending at $99.00 online with Masters it was already cheapest at $89.00

for close to $40 you get a powerful 70W Motor 40cm fan with calming misting in your room and LED Display with remote control operated and timer operation. Treat yourself this Summar and christmas with an investment that will see you through the summer with a breeze (and mist ofcourse).

Specifications:

70W motor
7.5 hours timer with remote
3 Speeds with oscillation
LED display
Spraying mist and adjustable volume
3 transparent blades
2.5L water tank

Or die from "Fan Death". o_0

      • Hahah funniest thing I've read all day.

  • Good find, I used amaysim $25 ebay voucher to pay only $24!

  • +1

damnit just bought a kambrook fan for $25 from bigw

    • Return it?

Or set it up behind this one so you get more breeze…

      • Does Big W have a change of mind policy?

I'm not related to the store BTW

Won't this fan make everything wet???

    • Wondering the same thing- Anyone have one? how much moisture does it generate?

      • Yes it will. We used to own the larger type that you pour water in the back. We used to fill it with ice-cold water from the freezer. It made everything soaking wet, and mould started growing. While this would take longer, I think it would probably do the same.

The moisture only raised the humidity too, making you more uncomfortable.

        • Humidity is a location-based issue. In Brisbane this is an issue, in Melbourne or Adelaide, not so much. The misting level is controllable. In dry heat, it is very much more effective than a conventional fan alone and cheap.

        • Ice-cold water? Seems highly unnecessary.

        • @CYMA: It was so hot it had to be - ice cubes and water from the fridge - otherwise it was blowing warm water on you.

I used to have one, mainly because I was hungover one day in the middle of summer and my housemate and I gave into the allure of the most r2d2 looking, fancy fan of all time.

        General feedback:
        1) It had so many blinking lights that using it at night required covering the front of it with tape/socks.
        2) Bigger blades generally mean they're quieter, and that was welcome.
        3) It takes up more space than a normal fan
        4) The misting feature is a great spectacle, but here in Australia where the air is already so humid, it doesn't really help much with cooling (might take off an extra half a degree), but I didn't have any problems with mould or anything.
        5) If Tim-the-Tool-Man-Taylor had a fan, it would be this, so you should probably buy one. Don't listen to Al.

        Hope that helps.

        • which part of australia that's humid, here in Melbourne it's dry as.

    • -1

grandma stays dry, so not everything.

    • If this is the same type as they have at outdoor events and outdoor bars, yes it will. They give off a ton of spray compared to those older one were the straw just gets wet, cooling the air.

    • We have a different brand of misting fan and it doesn't make everything wet, in fact it's quite nice on warm dry days. That said, there is the option to not turn the misting on if there is humidity around, not sure if it's the same with this model. The only thing of note is you need to keep some water in the misting reservoir over the colder non-use months as there are parts in there that dry out and it wont mist next summer. Simply empty out the water when the warm season arrives and refill.

  • +1

Its mist and it gets dispersed due to fan. and its not continuous. in short its designed to lower the air temperature without condensing water on any object due to air being blown from fan.

Also its still a good fan if you don't use mist function given it has timer, LED display and remote control operation and a round base which keeps the fan straigh and steady as fan's weight is balanced at the centre of base.

I really wanted to buy but unfortunately it shows out of stock at Chullora, NSW 2190

Discount seems to work even with postage selected, not just C&C.
      Add $9.95 for postage.

  • What's the deal with this one….."& mosquito repellent function". How does that work???

    • +5

Mozzie's find it hard to land on you if there is a breeze….

…but it probably has some pseudoscience sound it emits to ward off hungry mozzie's.

      • +6

The mosquito repellent function is the 'On' button :-)

    • +4

Just add some insecticide to the water tank.

The Omega comes with a 2.8L Yank, too.

I (<./;/*()!) you Masters as you won't build a store in Townsville, NQ, Queensland's largest regional city. May you suffer the loss of business and marshmellow stones reign upon you from heaven!

    • +3

No point building one now. They'll likely be out of business in a couple of years.

  • Good sales pitch, got one :)

    • This company wouldn't sell misting fans and evaporative coolers, by any chance?

However, there is a common misconception that it does not work well in humid areas. Misting fans create a mist. This gave rise to the idea that it will only make a humid environment more unpleasant by adding the mist. Fortunately, this is not the case. The only time a misting fan will make an environment unpleasant and humid is if the nozzles are not in working order. Otherwise, misting fans work best in areas where there is humidity. Since it is a cooling device, it is meant to be used in warm climates.

Bunkum. In high humidity climates, these things do not work. The cooling effect from evaporation won't happen because the evaporation won't happen. When do you see the most sweat? On humid days, because it accumulates on the skin and doesn't vaporise away. Complete waste of money in the middle of a Queensland summer.

      • Yes you are probably right but for use at night in bed might help also it's a good price for a high powered fan even if you don't use any water as cheap fans do not cool well

      • Exactly. Air conditioners remove water from the air, making it comfortable - not add it in. That's why they drip so much water.

A glance at photos of real estate in outback towns shows completely different airconditioning systems on the roof (a large cube on top of a toilet roll, LOL) compared to houses on the coast have. I assume they must be the 'evaporative' type.

  • Good for outdoor party. Bought,

  • Thanks OP. Bought it for $51.60 delivered since my local masters was out of stock

  • Wonder how long before water runs out/

    • 2.5L so not very long

      • So really its a gimmick?

Won't be fun filling it up every hour/30mins I imagine.

  • Bought . ty

  • How useful is this in an apartment with no air conditioner where the outside temperature is often 40 degrees?

    • Depends where you live. An apartment suggests you're on the coast. So probably not so much, if using the water aspect. Buy a window rattler. Even if you can't fit it directly in the window there's ways around it. We bought one years ago, got it home, didn't fit in the window! I sat it on a table in front of the window on top of a towel (to stop it moving and scratching the table), pushed it back so its drip vent was over the carpet. Then sticky-tape cardboard so the hot air blows out the window, placed a bucket underneath to collect dripping water. Yes, it wasn't perfectly efficient - some of its heat didn't make it out the window and reheated the room - but just removing the moisture from the air and the cooling it did do was still a relief in the sauna the landlord should have paid US to live in.

  • +2

Hmmm..added humidity and water vapour near my expensive electronics….doesnt sound like a good idea to me

Would be good for outdoor areas, but then again you can just get one of those $10 kits off ebay and run it straight from hose pressure - we had one of these a few houses back set up under a patio. Worked a treat.

    • Make Sure the Area is Well Ventilated When Using misting fan :)

      • Under a patio is fairly well ventilated - no walls, just a floor and ceiling.

        • pretty much. My friend has one of this (or similar) and 52" TV in their bedroom and they haven't had any problem. but I totally agree with you. I'd not take any risk to put my computer in a same room with this fan

  • +1

Word of advice here.. Don't ever use this fan inside… Outdoor is fine, but indoor will just make you miserable due to the increased humidity. Just like how useless portable evaporative cooler

  • +2

Thanks bought one. Wasn't working on mobile website but desktop seems fine.

Don't intend to use the misting function - just wanted one with a remote control!

  • As mentioned even without misting function its a very good fan with remote operation for this price

  • Yeah this product sounds a bit weird to me and I'm not sure why this is posted here other than the price has gone down. People are saying its a good price for a fan with a remote…but it doesn't seem like it to me. Masters sell other 40cm fans with remote starting at $30 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Goldair-40cm-Pedestal-Fan-Wit…. Chuck your 15% off code on that and your cash rewards and its even cheaper. It's a hell of a lot less ugly too in my opinion but I digress..

Back to this Goldair mister fan…thing. Here's a screenshot of the reviews on Masters website

    http://i.imgur.com/7nC7Avq.jpg

The comments in the previous ozbargain deal also aren't very positive. The consensus across the top Masters review and ozbargain commenters is that as a cooling solution, this is not very effective - certainly not any more than a regular fan without the 'misting' feature. Others have expressed concern about the risk of creating good conditions for mould to grow and the possible detrimental effect on any electronics kept in the same room as this fan is used in. Others say it shouldn't even be used inside

I think this could be a case where you should be suspicious as to why the price has gone down. Trouble selling them? Multiple returns from unsatisfied customers? Buyer beware

    • circle base alone is probably worth the difference in price. Did you notice the difference in wattage too?

      • -1

the shape of the base is actually a selling point? I've owned a few pedestal fans in my time and I think they all had the X shape base..never once have they fallen over by themselves. Maybe if you have little kids or big dogs around this is an issue?

As for the wattage, I don't know electricity very well so I could well be wrong on this. The mister version is 70w and the non-mister is 40w. Does that not mean the 40w version is cheaper to run too?

        • +1

Yeah, but since they are talking about the motor. It should also determine the blade RPM etc. So I would assume the 70w is a fair bit more powerful (unless that's including the power needed for the mister?)

        • I just bought one these to replace another fan where the base is falling apart. We have no dogs of kids but some of those things are so flimsy just moving them around flexes the thin metal and they bend and break.. As mentioned above we have no issues without other misting fan, indoors, just don't use the misting function when humidity is about.

        • @hypie:

mmm ok. different strokes for different folks. my 40w fan (soem brand found at Woolworths) is pretty damn powerful when turned onto the highest setting but I guess they can always go faster. at a certain point doesn't it just become redundant if you aren't cooling the air?

I've also had it for a few years and move it between rooms and its even moved between a couple of houses with no special care made to prevent the base from bending. Guess I just got one of the good ones

    • I bought this Goldair from OO a while ago, it died after 2 years. The motor starts for few seconds and turn itself off.
Seems like the motor overheated, but leaving it off for few hrs didn't make any difference.

  • Grabbed one thanks OP. Going to use outside to help me survive a predicted hot Xmas day with the rellos … Maybe the mist will send them home early? Lol

    • If the mist contains a noxious liquid such as mortein the yes it will

  • Hello every one, do not buy this one, will even make worse.

All you need is air circulator or high velocity fan to cool the whole room down.

  • It seems to be great to use outdoors but agree with others that indoors would be far from ideal

  • how does this compare to an evaporative air cooler?

    • I have a different brand, but think this is vastly superior to the old wood filled-boxes of yesteryear.
      No smells.
      You can't overfill them.
      No leaks.
      Surprisingly effective.
The actual mister is ionization-based platinum disc device at the bottom of the mist collection hose.
If you can recall some of the coloured glass dish with a light and a mister from a few years ago, you will remember the similar setup.
Some hardware stores like Bunnings may even have a demo-ones 'on' to see.

  • Where would you use the misting function? You wouldn't seriously use this indoors, right? So it has to be outdoors?

    • +1

Indoors on dry days, I've found that when humidty gets down to around 50% or lower on hot days then we turn the mister on. Otherwise we don't bother, it does add a nice (albeit slight)cooling affect when the conditions are right. Otherwise you have a cheap remote controlled fan with a decent motor. :)

  • +1

It says in-store pickup only and no stock in my local :(.

  • Can someone comment on the quality of this? I bought two normal fans from masters preciously that were of poor quality, one was noisy and vibrated (metal fan) and the other plastic fan smelt so bad like machine oil it couldn't be in the house

  • -1

what are these fans like with tiles?? I just worried with the mist/water making them slippery.

  • In store pickup only, delivery is not an option. Wonder how others did it? thanks

  • For those familiar with Masters Click&Collect, is it normal to buy something apparently in stock at your local store and yet be advised by ebay to not expect pickup to be available until after 2 weeks, in my case after the 26 Dec? I was under the impression that I have purchased stock from a local store, why the hold up?

    • Can't say, I ordered mine this morning and it was ready to pick up a hour or two later.

  • they were out of stock then put up the price

  • NO DEAL, Masters jacked up the price to AU $89.00

  • Two weeks after my local store still don't get stock. Well, maybe I could save it for next summer.

    • Finally got an SMS for pickup, however when I rocked up in store, I was told to get a refund as no stock will be available. Anyway, got to accept it and had $7.5 profit as $49 was refunded.
