It looks taller than 40cm, maybe the 40cm is the diameter of the fan blades?

      Correct

    • Comment of the day!

  • How much are they normally?

Wonder how long 2.5l tank lasts?

  • Does anyone use these indoors? I've always wondered whether everything will just get wet or if the mist kind of evaporates beforehand.

Unless you're using them in a big warehouse, I wouldn't.

The moisture will build up and you'll likely grow a colony of mould.

      • Ok cool, thanks!

depends on where you live, I use them here in Melbourne and haven't seen any mould yet.

    • Would be good for maybe a bedroom and keep the setting on low and keep the doors and windows open.
I'd imagine it works basically the same as a evaporative cooler

      • Evaporative Coolers work differently. You have water filters where the warm air passes through, cooling them down.

Sure, the air has a higher humidity, but it's different than a mist where you're spraying water onto the fans.

        • i think the mist goes in front of the fan, not onto the fans.
Yes, it should work same as evaporative cooler in principle but the mist increases the surface area of H2O allowing it to change states more readily.

But i agree with twinbag in spraying yourself with water in front of a fan would be better.

  • It's not the same model as this one, but it may have the same clear blades, which don't seem to do well over time, according to the reviews.

    • That looks like the more expensive Bunnings one

      • Correct, and given that it has clear blades like the Bunnings one, which most probably are made from the same material, it's highly probable it will suffer the same fate of shattered blades.

I appreciate you posting the deal, I was almost ready to buy one, but a bit of reading has led me to believe that the lifespan on these would most probably be rather short.

I'd be very happy to eat my words should I be proven wrong.

i have a misting fan similar to this and it doesn't seem to make any difference whether i have the mist on or not, it's just a gimmick imo.

Also it makes the room more humid so it feels hotter. Better to just spray yourself with water and sit in front of a normal fan.

    • Surely these are designed for outside use where the humidity doesn't build up?

      • lol maybe, they sure as hell do diddly squat over and above a normal fan indoors.

In Thailand at a shopping village i went to, they had some fans outside that seemed to work better, but they had more of a spray than a mist, so the water had time to get on your skin and evaporate causing a cooling effect. The mist is too fine on these and just becomes part of the atmosphere within about 30cm.

water evaporating in the air sucks heat out as water requires energy to change state. it's the way swamp coolers work. this method of cooling works best in low humidity.

of course getting hit with a spray of cold water cools you down good too.

    Hello All
These kind of fans are not suitable for indoor use especially where you have electronics like computers and televisions. Spray sets a high humidity level inside the room which is not suitable for electronics (Especially Televisions)
These are more suitable for outdoor use and workshops.
If you want this for indoor use then save yourself lots of $ by using a normal fan and a 50c spray bottle using it to spray a fine mist on your face rather than the whole room

    Cheers

  • Looks good, my only concern is corrosion of the frame short term
