The creators of Blue Planet reunite to celebrate our remarkable planet as never before thought possible with a stunning trip into the wilderness shot on revolutionary high-definition cameras over the course of five years, and utilizing 40 cameramen in 200 locations. These are the scenes that simply were not possible with older filmmaking technology, and from the highest mountain peaks to the deepest river floors, Planet Earth sets out to capture on camera the most elusive creatures every known to humankind. Acclaimed actor David Attenborough narrates as the filmmakers of Planet Earth take viewers on a journey that is truly out of this world.

Been cheaper when the dollar was at parity, but this is as good as you'll find right now. $49.98 @ JB Hi-Fi…

Everyone should watch this at the highest quality available

Mind blowing is putting it lightly.

    • I agree. A masterpiece worthy of a spot in anyones collection.

    • The cinema-photography is amazing. My favourite are some of the scenes where they start with a single animal filling the frame and then zoom out to reveal a massive herd running across the plains.

I'm not ashamed to admit I had a fair bit of time with Mary Jane as I watched this.

Not that I endorse the behavior - but yeah. Mind blown.

    • Yes very good Cgi animation.

  • My friend is in this!

    • Do tell…

She rescues the penguin chick in the behind the scenes on Antarctica :D

there was a £0.99 shipping fee to Sydney but great buy! thanks

    • Thanks for that. I stupidly assumed free shipping to Aus. Title updated :)

  • This is good and worth watching. Thanks TA

  • The best DVD I have ever seen to watch when smoking legal herbs.

You should upgrade to the Blu-Ray. Chalk & cheese :)

Whoops, showing my age. I meant Blu-ray but still call them dvds.

I recommend Baraka and Samsara on blu-ray. Another level.

      • +1

Thanks for letting me know about Baraka. I will make sure I watch it. I loved Samsara, although I couldn't eat meat for a few weeks after the livestock footage. Brilliantly done.

      • And the 'Sqwatsi' series also

  • I have a Panasonic blu ray player. Not sure if it will play using this region code. Have yet to buy any discs from overseas.

This Blu-Ray is region B, so you're good to go (Europe, Greenland, French Territories, Middle East, Africa, Australia & New Zealand).

If you'd prefer much faster delivery and better parcel packaging at only an extra $1.60 ($26.30 delivered) you can buy it from Amazon UK. No need to be waiting possibly over a month for it when it can arrive within 2 weeks via Amazon UK. Even my last blu-ray order sent on November 25 from Amazon UK arrived in a week.

  • Just a query : 11 episodes @ 60 mins each = 660 mins.
The run time is far less than this according to the specs "420 mins approx" . According to Amazon the run time is "550 mins", still less than the estimated run time. What is going on here?

    • Because they're not 60 minute episodes. Most episodes i've on seen on TV series are around 40-42 mins each.

      • +1

        Thanks. Wikipedia lied to me.

        • Well that's the only explanation that they're not full 60 minute episodes. And also the specs on Zavvi is lying. Amazon UK has the runtime as 550 minutes and it's exactly the same box set. That would make it that the episodes are around 50 minutes each.

        • @hollykryten: Extra 110 mins, can't complain about that. That equates to $3.52 per hour of HD entertainment(not including re-watches).

  • Oh well out of stock at Zavvi. Next best deal is the $26.30 delivered (according to xe.com) from Amazon UK. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/224404#comment-3279098

    • Yeah. That was quick. I missed out stuffing around with 'research'. To put it into perspective it's almost $7 more expensive than historical pricing for this item.

      • +1

You can still get it for an extra $1.60 but from Amazon UK. Arrives much quicker too.

        • Yeah you won't regret it. One of the best looking blu-rays out there.

        • @Ryballs:

Yeah i bought it when JB Hi-Fi had it going for $40 on their recent 20% off sale. At least i had it in my hands the same day. It looks stunning on HD blu-ray.

So where can I get Planet Earth bundled with half a ziplock of Purple Kush, since that seems to be a highly recommended viewing aid?

  • +2

    WOW. Feels like 2010 again.

    • Now awaiting Firefly for cheap too.

You're better off getting the special edition from Amazon UK. This regular edition is slowed down from 25fps to 24fps so that it could be sold in America. The special edition is marketed at 1080i50, but in reality all the footage is 1080p, it's just that 1080p25 is not a supported Blu-ray standard so they're a little sneaky and flag the video as interlaced when it actually isn't.
