To answer your questions in order. No and nothing. It is good for me as I predominantly play single player for long periods. So as soon as a controller dies I swap it for one from the charging station. Also useful for charging controllers when ps4 is not turned on.
I guess the true bargain would be to save your money and use the cables but I like to be cable free.
Do you have a wireless headset, steering wheel, Skylanders, Disney Infinity etc? They all use USB ports. This dock doesn't use any USB ports as it plugs into A/C. Personally I think its great as I have all of the above and the PS4 only has 2 USB ports.

whats it like, do the controllers plug in really easy.
I scored one of these for $18 from Westlakes Target SA as they had an $18 tag. The tag turned out to be for a 3rd party brand, but the tag didnt specify. Just said "sony ps4 dual charging dock"
I went to Fullham target and saw the same tag on the official. Something to keep an eye out for.
xiaomi 10000mAh charger does the trick for me. Charges quickly without having to stop. Cheaper and saves having another bit of plastic sitting below the tv too.

Has anyone tried both, are the equally as easy to use?
I haven't tried non sony charging stations just the official one for the ps3 which I have had no problems with. I base my product choices on my experience with official vs third party controllers. Some of the third party controllers I have owned over the years develop faults while all my original sony controllers have developed no faults. Fingers crossed the same quality is used here.
Not every Costco has it. I know Costco auburn doesn't sell it.
