pity you probably can't get these approved for exams at most uni's… gotta fork out $40 for a casio lol…

    • +7

      sounds like anti-competitive behavior…

      • +1

Isn't that how the ti calculators in the states make a killing?

    • Can I ask why they can't be approved for uni examS ?

      • +5

Best to probably ask the universities who make fat commissions from proprietary calculator sales…

      • University of Sydney would accept this.

      • +3

Not sure about other universities but UNSW has a list of approved calculators with a list of criteria your calculator needs to meet if you want your calculator to be added onto the list (probably not worth the effort). This calculator is not currently approved for use at UNSW.

        • Last time I checked this was the cheapest one on the list: http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/School-Office-Handheld-Electronic-S…

Was only 4 bucks last time I checked about 6 months ago, old school type not the new order of operations type

You could get it approved, has to be shown to one of the staff there so they can check it over and add it to the list, don't know how hard this would be though

      • so all students are using the same and need to do the same functions to work the problems out.

      • +1

due to some that can be reprogrammed, or allow graphing/solving of equations etc

    • $40? A true ozbargainer would never pay that much. Paid $12 i think for my Sharp calculator (approved)

    • +1

      1+1= window

  • +4

I really don't know why i bought this, i have a scientific calculator on my Note 4 .. i think to relive good old coll days :) Thx OP

    • +10

You bought it because you are an Ozbargainer.

    • -1

when a bargain comes along - you must flip it!
before the broden gets them all - you must flip it!
you will never live it down - unless you flip it!

  • +3

Landfill………batteries will cost more than the calculator

    • Agreed. A lot of Casio calculators take a single AA battery, and Eneloops work fine in them too.

      • but the battery lasts for years and years in them.

        • +1

I buy calculators with solar panels so you don't need any batteries. Scientific ones probably need batteries and I would get AAA ones over cell batteries. At the end of the day, you can download a free app top do the same.

        • @abacus:
I have a calc with no solar and the battery would be ten years old (I would say even more but I think it was when my son was born)

        • @abacus:

good luck trying to use your smartphone in an exam situation, or a high school class

        • @hetzjagd: Yeah but you probably can't use these either.

    • does it detract from the deal? how many scientific calculators are solar powered and reliable? that's like saying a $10 external dvd burner isn't a deal because a 50 pack of blanks costs more

  • +5

    There's an App for that.

    • +1

Does the app cost more than $2?

      • +2

        No.

      • Are you going to have the calculator in your pocket everywhere you go?

        • +5

          Yes…

        • +2

Of course not. That'd be silly. I am putting it in my bag.

  • +1

    Bought one thanks!!!

    • You could vote also, OP's like that.

      • sorry I am pretty new here. done! :)

  • Got 2. Really needed them. One for the nephew

  • Nice, got 2, another Xmas gift for school kids

    • +7

        • Lol!.

        • +1

Who in their right mind wants less of those??

  • Good deal, the cheapest scientific calculator I saw was $10 from office works

    http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/insystem-in…

    • pity you cant price match it!

  • +16

    I seriously gotta stop buying sh*t I don't need.

    • +4

      Welcome to ozbargain.

    • +2

Depends on your definition of "need". Did you feel a sense of joy/calm/relief when your order was successful? If so, your day is now that little bit brighter and we all most definitely need that! :)

  • +8

    I purchased about 5

    About five? You're not sure?

    • +28

Once he receives the calculator/s, perhaps he'll be able to work it out? ;)

      • +4

I see what you did there

      • +1

        Ohh that nice

      • He? I'd be thinking female, with that ID.

        • Think of he, as in mankind, or human rather than a specific gender ;)

    • +1

he needs a calculator to work out how many he bought

EDIT - beat me while I was typing with my clumpy fingers

    • +1

Darn it ! Had a feeling someone was gonna comment on it ..my apologies

      • +1

Just out of curiosity, why would you need 5 calculators? For your kids?

        • +2

          Broden. Profit.

        • I need it for uni .. got 4 other siblings that use it for uni/school 😊😊

        • @sarah965:
and it an approved model you are allowed to use?

        • @PVA:
I actually did not think about it when purchasing it .. but I will find out .. I am pretty sure should be fine ..

  • +27

It's a Dick Smith brand calculator - aren't you all worried about how well it does math?

Dick Smith is renowned for percentage off sales that must be worked out using some different form of math than most of us use.

    • What's math?

      • +4

Muuuuum, doorknob is picking on me!

        • Lol. Maths. Maths!

Oz-ness aside, I want one of these that can do funny graphs.

        • @doorknob:

          You mean a graphics calculator?

          They're pricey.

    • +2

According to the instructions, to take off 50% I need to add 60% first…

      • +1

        So, 20% off original price?

  • +5

    From http://grammarist.com/

    Math vs. maths

Math and maths are equally acceptable abbreviations of mathematics. The only difference is that math is preferred in the U.S. and Canada, and maths is preferred in the U.K., Australia, and most other English-speaking areas of the world.

Neither abbreviation is correct or incorrect. You may hear arguments for one being superior to the other, and there are logical cases for both sides. One could argue maths is better because mathematics ends in s, and one could argue math is better because mathematics is just a mass noun that happens to end in s. In any case, English usage is rarely guided by logic, and these usage idiosyncrasies are often arbitrary. If you were raised in a part of the world where people say maths, then maths is correct for you, and the same is of course true of math. Don’t listen to anyone who says otherwise.

So, "not listening to you, doorknob!"

    • +1

      Wow. That's kewl.

    • +2

Though, we are in Australia, where it's best to use Australian English, which is based on British English.

If you're American, then welcome. If you're not, then why would you use American English in a country that doesn't use it?

      • +1

Which country doesn't use American spellings for at least some things?

Although many people I know would (playfully?) call me a pedant or a spelling or grammar nazi, there are a couple of words that I just don't seem to care too much about. Maths or math, I can live with either.

        • American language is banned in England. Anyone caught using it is hung, drawn and quartered outside the tower of London.

  • +7

I almost bought a very cheap calculator that I don't even need.

    • +1
