Spend $7500 in 3 months, geezus!

    • there is $5000 for 50k points over 3 months

      • I signed up for this same card. Only had to spend 3k over 3 months !

    • yeah if it had of been a month ago, then it probably wouldn't have been an issue (chrissy, 2 x car rego + ins, etc). I suppose a few $k of wishcards can fix that.

Bugga because I'm looking for a new card now Virgin card is about to charge it's annual fee.

      • Just ring virgin, and request waiver of annual fee. It works for me every year.
        :)

        • What is the best excuse for them to waive the fee and deem acceptable on their end?

        • @kenneth88: It's run by Citibank AFAIK, and all it takes is requesting a cancellation each year. In fact, you can then push them a little further and say you're interested in [x-card] which will give you [y points], and they might throw in some points to keep you.

I'm currently on my second BT with Citibank Signature, doesn't seem to bother them if I use it or not.

        • +2

@JohnHowardsEyebrows: With Citi BT watch out because I think that they are introducing an upfront fee of 1.5%. Just a 'heads-up' of the possibility.

          @kenneth88:

Tell them you will leave if they don't…..

They will transfer you to a manager who will then say you are a valued customer and will offer to waiver the fee to keep you

        • +2

@kenneth88: well I rang to cancel my card (after paying it off), and said "I want to cancel before the annual fee is charged" they offered to credit $129 to my account to cover it without me even asking. thanks @MrRobot

      • Would have been piece if cake for me when I had paid taxes with credit card.

$7500 worth of Woolworth gift cards?

    • What I did to earn that QFF points was to ask friend if they want to buy something then let me know. All my friends brought full pack of cash. Geezus!!

      Obviously don't have kids.

Great deal, but very important to consider in the Ts and Cs

Not available in conjunction with other offers, packages or promotions, or when transferring from an existing ANZ credit card or where you currently hold or have closed an ANZ Frequent Flyer, ANZ Frequent Flyer Gold, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum or ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card within the previous twelve months.

    • +3

was just about to post the same - would rule most ozbargainers out

      • I think I'm just ok to re-apply for this one. Should be coming up on 12 months for me now since the last card offer I took up with ANZ.

I can manage the $7,500 spend but it is a big ask. It would mean moving all of my direct debits over etc. I guess that's what they're hoping for.

        • just to make sure, it is "within the previous twelve months" where you held one of those ANZ credit cards listed above. So, for example, if you applied/approved in May 2014, and cancelled it in April 2015, you would have to wait until April 2016 to be eligible again.

        • I cancelled mine 5 months ago. So I will have to wait long

    • Damn, so anyone that currently holds an ANZ FF card is not eligible?

    • +1

I wonder if they even bother checking?
There's a number of us AMEX holders who have managed to reapply within 12months, or even still holding an existing AMEX card, and still receive the bonus offers.

  • Damn just cancelled my ANZ recently

    • Call and see if you can sign up. My cousin just did and they said that he could. Just try sweet talk the person on the phone. Just show her what zebras do best

      • Haha zebras hey, alright will see what they say, I assume they just apply a promo code when you sign up

      • +1

Even if the person on phone may agree, but the points come after 90 days. What if after spending $7500 you don't get point then ? ;)

  • What do the consider an 'eligible purchases' it might include no bill payments? Otherwise this would be manageable be paying rent with the card for a few months

    • No BPay

    • Not worth it IMO. You can't use a CC to pay rent. Without paying a ridiculous amount of fee / surcharges that is.

      • yeah the only one I ever saw offereing it was MacBank, so of course there was a hefty surcharges, and you'd have to check with the bank that it didn't count as a cash withdrawal (like say topping up your betting account" & get charged interest from day 1.

  • Would using paypal with this cc be included in your spend requirement?

    • Yes, you can link both the Visa and AMEX card to your PayPal account. Would recommend using the AMEX for all PayPal purchases as you get more points.

  • If rents included then could be a goer

Could you buy $7500 worth of stuff from a store with a "no questions asked" refund policy and then just return it all to meet the minimum spend criteria?

    • +3

The trick is to book a fully refundable hotel or business class flight. But keep in mind this probably runs afoul of their T&Cs

    • i think that's crossing the line.
that store is going to be stuck with some serious credit card fees for the transactions….

    • Yep. That's what I did last time. Expedia.

This card is really good if you're travelling overseas as it allows you lounge access to some of the airport. Saved us 200SD last time we used airport lounge in Singapore. Just a note you can use your second card to allow a guest to accompany you inside the lounge as well.

  • Paying rent via deft with visa/MC is 1.5%.. I would be looking at $35 extra each month for 3 months.. Doesn't seem too bad for the points?

    Amex 3.3%

  • This appears to be an extension of the same deal which recently expired.

Assuming you don't have any international student friends for whom you can settle their fees with your card, the easiest way to rack up spend (without increasing your costs) is to prepay everything you can: power, gas, internet, mobile, health insurance - everything upfront for as long as necessary (a year on all of them will put most within striking distance of the $7.5k). Fully refundable flights are a good way to put money on at the last minute (wouldn't put the whole $7.5k on one - but a little amount won't hurt, particularly if you can offset the refund with future spend).

If after all that you find yourself short, put the dough on some Coles Myer/WISH/Costco gift cards, which will again be effectively prespending on things you will be buying anyway.

      Lol. That's pretty desperate.

Nothing in life is free, but some things are less effort than others. For most people, skimming FF points off the banks is the only way we'll ever be able to enjoy a holiday in business, or especially, first, class.

Well worth the trouble. Consider that 96,000 points will get you across the pacific (South or North) in business class. If you'd managed to put the whole $7.5k on Amex, you'd be just 10,000 points short, in one fell swoop.

My plan - Woolworths egift cards for $1000, Plus a few of my bills, and pay some bills for friends and family. Give them $5 off per $500 to offset points that they would have earnt. EG Friends/Family bills of $5,500 spend would then cost you $55.

  • How much is the points worth?

    • about $430.

      • Only worth that little if you convert to gift cards.

Worth a return trip Sydney Perth in business class (and some left over), a one way trip to Europe (with enough for a return Mel-Syd remaining), or three quarters of a return trip to the USA/Chile.

  • is there any card that does allocate ff points for Bpay payments? I'm thinking this is the only way of getting enough points to justify the whole exercise for me. I'm so embedded with recurring / linked expenses on my current ANZ CC.

  • I will be applying for a first home loan soon, and if I apply multiple credit cards, will it impact the credit decisioning?

    • Yes, every credit card balance you're given is a potential liability to the home loan assessors.

      • My question was more on applying card and closing it in a year :)

        • If your CC is closed when you apply, no problem. If it's active, the entirety of the credit limit will count as a liability you owe, even if you owe $0.

        • @Bozman: Thank you for clarifying

  • If you do the flight thing, how soon do you cancel it? Once you have the points, if so do they issue the points once you hit $7500? Otherwise if you have to wait 3 months you would be paying interest on the $7500??

    • You pay it off in full when it's due. Then wait for the points.

  • 'ANZ Frequent Flyer Black American Express Card' holder is eligible for 2 visits to The American Express Lounge at Sydney International Terminal T1. Would this card be included?

  • I just went to the ANZ branch to apply for the ANZ FF Black and was told that part of the annual fee is NOT waived. Apparently part of it is a $55 rewards fee that you will still be charged…

But then when I went online it says: "The Total Annual Fee, and any Additional Cardholder Fees and Rewards Program Services Fees applicable to additional cardholders on the account, will be waived for the first year."

  • Are you still able to pay the ATO with this card and claim the points?

  • Still waiting for my bonus points from the previous deal.

  • I qualify tomorrow! haha

  • this seems better than the one that got heaps of votes (Amex Qantas) as no annual fee. Am i missing something?

  • No annual fee for first year…
$7500 minimum spend in 3 months criteria, which is not for everyone :)
