    • Not really a comparable lens. Generally you would pair the 2 together.

  • I had this lens before, not impressed. Better save up and buy 16-35mm f/4. 1 mm extra at the wide end is a big difference.

    17mm is not "ultrawide". Try 11mm and below. And yes 6mm is a HUGE difference at the wide end. I own a Sigma 8-16 and it's sharp and fun to use, but I don't get out with it much, but if UW photography was more part of my style it would be invaluable.

      I guess you're not on a Full Frame format?

      • -1

        No I haven't gone full frame. The 8-16 is a 1.4x crop Nikon DX version.

        Full frame ultrawide gets expensive.

        Canon have an 11-24mm and 14mm fixed ultrawide full frame lens with an angle of view of 126 degrees.

        Or if you want to go fisheye there's the 8-15mm.

        Then there are 3rd party lenses.

          The widest Full Frame lens from Canon is 16-35L and second widest is this, 17-40L.

          @jdreamer:

          See my first link above "Canon 11-24mm f/4L is a New Ultra-Wide Zoom Lens for Full Frame DSLRs"

          The 14 mm is also an EF (full frame) lens.

          Did you even look at my links before commenting?

        • @syousef:

          Oh, I missed most of your comment. Glad that you earned a brownie point but what did that have to do with this deal? One is $780 and the other one is $3,599.00. :|

          @jdreamer:

          So let me get this straight. You:
          1. Don't bother to read what I wrote.
          2. Give completely incorrect information.
          3. When proven wrong, instead of admitting it, you ask me what it has to do with the deal based on differences in price?

          Well you don't have a leg to stand on since you're exaggerating. You're quoting retail prices against a special. The 17-40L is normally $979.00. There are actually two 16-35L lenses. The f/4 is $1,599.00 and the f/2.8 is $2,079.00. You didn't have a problem mentioning those lenses did you? All prices are Canon AU store prices without current discounts. Shall I ask you what a $2,079.00 lens has to do with this deal?

          You're the last one who should be asking me what the discussion has to do with the deal.

          I will commend you on one thing. You manage to fit a lot of wrong into very few sentences. And that's the bottom line. You were wrong.

        • @syousef:

          You must have a bad day because I have had no intention to upset you.

          1. I did mention that I missed most of your comment and commended you about it.
          2. Incorrect information of what? I've copied word-by-word from DWI website (http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/astore/dod_b.aspx) - I didn't type the description by my own.
          3. What has a 11-24L lens has got to do with this deal? They're two different lenses?

          As for the prices.. I honestly don't know what you are talking about. $780 was referred to this 17-40L and $3,599 was referred to the lens you recommended, 11-24L (http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/astore/Canon-EF-11-24mm-…). It's now $3,299 on DWI, $300.00 cheaper than this afternoon.

          As per your comment as well, this lens is usually $979 and it's now $780…..

          Sorry if I offended you in my previous comments? But let's just leave the discussion as it is and move on from now?

          @jdreamer:

          Takes a lot more to upset me.
          1. Yes you did, which annoyed rather than upset me.
          2. You said: "The widest Full Frame lens from Canon is 16-35L and second widest is this, 17-40L." That is incorrect.,
          3. First, you brought up other specific lenses in the first place. Second comparing this deal to other deals on the market is completely legitimate.

          Assuming your apology is sincere it is accepted. Happy to move on.
