I went to CheapCoffee's pitchfork emporium, all the clearance pitchforks have all been brodened by the staff.

0/10 will not visit Coffee's Pitchfork Emporium again.

      • +2

        Any deals on torches?

    • Resistance is futile.

  • +3

why buy bluray player when you can just buy PS4?

    • +3

But not for $29 or the 3D home theatre I bought for $9.9.

  • +2

    Hope no One gets dicked

  • Can anyone give me any advice on home audio? Need some speakers for the tv, and hoping to snag a bargain tomorrow, but don't know anything about the different models available, which ones are good and which ones to steer clear from… Anyone purchased any and can give their opinion on which models to look out for? Hoping to get a cut priced Logitech z906 but somehow doubt that these will be reduced. Probably just be old model soundbars and maybe a home theater pack if I get lucky.

Hopefully the eastern states professionals post the sales list before 9am open time here in WA ;)

    • They have LG sound bar for like $30 if you are lucky.

      • Cheers, where did you see this? Was it part of todays deals or do you have an inside scoop?

        • +1

Saw the price today you know those red sticker but they couldn't locate them inside but they found a Panasonic 3D blu-ray home theatre for $9.90 …. lol …

        • Madness. Hopefully there are still some goodies tomorrow :)

      • And Philips with sub from $28, doubt it's better than my creative 2.1 though

    • I can recommend Z623 but not sure whether DS would have any in stock.

      • +1

Got z623 for the computer, love them, but need something for the TV that has a remote.

  • Should I line up at 9:00 tomorrow and will I be disappointed at the PVR sales? Will I see the same prices as yesterday? Only 30% off the good stuff? Waste a morning going there?

    • Saw some good prices today on some PVRs. A Panasonic 1TB and LG 500GB were $29.95 and an Altech was $89. There might have been a few others heavily discounted too. But it seems like it was only old stock/models that have been heavily discounted. I was hoping to get a Topfield 7170 but it was only about 20% off RRP.

      • +1

Many of those are a repeat of todays' deals

        • +1

Ink and Blu Ray are the only repeats. Everything else is new for tomorrow.
Source: Best mate works for the dick and sent me a photo of the promo

        • Oppo N1 mini was already this price today (~$220, still not a great buy)

        • Apple iPhones was already reduced today

  • Are sales from day 1 and day 2 still on? that is, if items are still left at a store?

  • +12

I like to think these deals help people who need a new TV or phone and are not just all thrown up on eBay/Gumtree the next day.

Just think if they capped it to 1 TV per customer for example, then the scalpers would be pissed but people who need a TV would have a better chance.

I have decided not to go to DSE during these sorts of sales so people who actually need this stuff are able to get it.

A bargain is a bargain at the end of the day but it would be nice if some people had self-restraint and weren't piling TVs into their trollies and nagging poor staff who were not informed by head office about these sales.

I just hope DSE has a positive future as competition is great for the market.

    • +5

Problem is that many of the staff are the biggest culprits.

They're saving loads of stocks for their friends and themselves.

      • +4

Should have seen the back room of the last store I went to near close! I'd say well over a hundred TV boxes. Although there was no real way to tell whether they were stockpiling TVs for themselves or orders awaiting collection.

        • I can bet they're doing the deal today for friends.

I know a guy who works at Apple that gives the stock to his family and friends a day earlier than release. And that with Apple strict policy. With Dicksmith they have no standards, staff will do as they please as really this sale is all about increasing cash flow and doesn't matter who is the buyer.

        • I don't think they give a (profanity) which is fair to be honest. I spoke to a guy and he reckons they will shut down after they clear all stock which means he will lose his job.

        • Full credit to staff members I dealt with in Perth CBD. When I asked if they had any Playstation TVs late on day 2 the bloke sounded disappointed but said they had one out the back and got it for me. :)

  • +4

I suspect the warranties on Dick Smith own branded goods are gonna be worth dick in about 3 months.

    • Warranties are warranties and have to be honoured under ACL for their entirety

      • But who would honor them if dse went bust? Wait in line with all the suppliers waiting to be paid only to get 10c in the $?

        • -1

If complications arise with DSE, it will be the responsibility of the manufacturer to provide warranty service.

If it is a DSE branded item, DSE would be compelled to provide warranty service.

        • +5

          @KaptnKaos:
Not if they no longer exist.

        • +1

          @KaptnKaos:

Ok, but if DSE no longer exist?

If they were in receivership then you could co down as a creditor but it would be unlikely you would get much money back.

You cant compel a business that doesnt exist to honor a warranty. I worked at a supplier to DSE years ago. The place went out of business, people that bought through dse could still get a refund them but people we sold to directly? No way. The business ceased operating, how would people we sold to get service or a refund when there is no business to chase?

      • -2

Precisely. Declaring the Business non-operative isn't a way out of warranty obligations. One of the business or the manufacturer must provide the necessary remedies if a warranty claim is made.

        • +8

Ok - let's take DSE branded ADSL line filters as an example.

Made in China, imported by DSE.

DSE fails - do you seriously think the Chinese manufacturer who has absolutely no business or contact details in Australia is going to honour the warranty?

          Keep smoking…

You would go down as an unsecured creditor and might get something if you are lucky.

You are not going to get anything from a chinese manufacturer. Even if they did for some reason agree to fix your tv are you going to pay the shipping? I doubt it.

        • @Duff5000:

I wouldn't pay for the shipping.

The same reason why I blindly ignore all phone deals here offered by Chinese websites, no matter how good that deal might be.

        • @KaptnKaos:

I wouldn't pay for the shipping.

So how are you going to get warranty?

The same reason why I blindly ignore all phone deals here offered by Chinese websites, no matter how good that deal might be.

          Your loss.

      • Who is the ACCC to hold accountable if the company is wound up?

      • +5

A warranty cannot be honoured when the business is bankrupt. Who do you think foots the bill, the government??

        • I wonder if dick smith actually owns the (presumably chinese) manufacturer of dick smith branded tvs. Even if not i think you would have buckleys chance getting them to honour the warranty after dick smith winds up.

        • +4

@Riczter: You would have better chance of getting Wayne Swan to balance the Federal Budget…

        • @Riczter:

I wonder if dick smith actually owns the (presumably chinese) manufacturer of dick smith branded tvs. Even if not i think you would have buckleys chance getting them to honour the warranty after dick smith winds up.

Are you for real? What is the cost to send a TV back to China and back to Australia again? $1000 maybe and you want to spend this to fix a $300 TV? LOL and this is only if you can convince a manufacturer who you don't know to accept warranty when they are still likely owed money by DSE.

    • But, but, my dick is invaluable… :P

  • Stafford only had a select number of items on clearance. Some good laptop deals, but maybe only display stock. I think they're slowly increasing the number of clearance lines, so better to check each day now

    • +5

I didn't see much at Stafford today. There were still a few decent PS4 games, but no GTA5 which is what I was after. Guy working there was extremely helpful and friendly.

Went to the Chermside store for the first time, and was surprised at how small the place was compared to the rest of the shopping centre.

Went to the Brookside store, and that was a complete waste of time. Had literally nothing. About 10 copies left of the same PS4 game….can't remember what it was, but it was an ordinary one.

Went to North Lakes yesterday, and the staff there were excellent. Thought about going back today to see if they had any TV's, but it's too far to bring back nothing.

Called Morayfield, and they were absolutely shocking. I'm pretty sure the woman was about to have a nervous breakdown. "We have no Tv's for sale here". "All the other stores are having a sale, BUT WE AREN'T!!!"

I wouldn't be surprised if there are some bargains to be had there in the next couple of days if Head Office decides to slash and burn everything because I doubt they have sold much thus far….

Called Maroochydore because one of Dick's stores said there might be a JVC 50 incher for $59 there, but he said that they had nothing. That would have been quite the dilemma. Is it worth driving 1000 miles for a 50 inch Tv that might not be there when I arrive?

Called Strathpine, and he pretty much told me not to bother coming in because there was nothing of note on special. He'd obviously been asked 1000 times about cheap Tv's by that point, and had the answer down pat.

Tried calling Mt Gravatt because one of the stores said that they might have a 42 inch home brand TV for $29. Never got through. Obviously phone off the hook all day, and too far to drive for nothing.

      • +1

Broden is that you? Yea I really wonder if the tvs will scan cheaper than the ticketed price

        • No, I only bought one thing. Pretty much a complete waste of time that I won't be repeating again!

Edit - You'd think that some of the stores out west would have some massive bargains, but I haven't seen anything posted on here. I remember when Dick's had a PS3 clearance a few years back, I got my brother to pick up a bunch of stuff from Dalby because he was working out there. They had tons of stuff still in stock when all the Brisbane stores were long sold out.

        • @jimbler: someone actually did find stock in rural Queensland from ds in this sale

  • +2

A discount means nothing with zero stock.

    • +3

people need to understand this is mainly clearance stock. some stores may have already sold these items when they were new, and not had them sitting around for ages

  • Can anyone recommend a good GPS? Would like to purchase one for my dad..

    • +2

Get one with lifetime map updates.

TomTom, Garmin, Navman should all be OK.

      • "Lifetime" is decided by the manufacturer (lifetime of product), usually only a couple of years.

        • sure, but by then you won't be using it anyway.

        • @Steptoe: Still using my Tom Tom after 4 years (had to get new maps from alternative sources)

        • @BigglesKDH:

TomTom is the best bet if you have to resort to those means.

        • @Steptoe: Yeah, new maps cost about the same as a new GPS!!!

      • thanks

      • I have been using my same garmin for the last 3 years and always get map update every 6months or so. So far has been pretty reliable and the battery still hold well.. :)

    • Wouldn't a phone work just as well as another device? I've been using navigation apps on my phone for years now.

      • Illegal for driving (here anyway [SA]).

        • Illegal even in a fixed phone cradle?

          I'm in VIC.

  • +2

My local store are DICKS, went today and asked whats part of "clearance lines" and was told "way too many tickets to put up, let me know what your after and we can look it up"
After 5 things I gave up as they were all normal prices..

    • +11

Wasn't browns plains was it. I asked a female staff there who asked the male staff to grab the pricing list so I could take a look at the whats on offer rather than coming up back and forth and the male staff grabbed the paper work and said "NO THIS IS NOT FOR THE PUBLIC!!!!!". Jesus acting like its nuclear launch codes or something

      • +1

        "Pass me The Football thanks"

      • Nah, Bundaberg…
They understand Rum and Bogans here, unfortunately not customer service and tech..

      • Haha that's too good :)

  • Confusing sale.

    Are iPhone on sale tomorrow?
    After a 5c or 5s.
    In Brisbane.

    • They were on sale today already. Doubt you will find any more stock.

  • +1

Really looking for a cheap iPhone or TV tomorrow. My local stores don't put up price tags for clearances though. They're always on the front desk and they say "We'll put them up soon" but never do it. Hoping I see something tomorrow though.

    • +2

They are too busy looking for alternative employment on SEEK

JB Hifi and Harvey Norman licking their lips at buying all remaining stock for 10 cents in the dollar…

      • +4

And listing products on Gumtree ;)

  • Whats the cheapest I can expect to pay for a 48' TV and could I get a better deal if I buy two?

    • +3

I think you'll be lucky if you manage to find stock from todays TV deals.. I imagine at the insane prices they are, buying two won't make a difference.

    • Tree fiddy. I can do two for sex fiddy, but.

      • chuck in fosh and chops?

        • Sure thing cuz!

        • @cnut: Any chance you got any DSLR cameras from yesterday's deal that you wanna sell, mate? :)

        • @AussieDaddy: I only snagged two and the second is a Christmas present for momsie because I broke her old one.

          No luck finding the 7D?

The best deal so far would have to be the 6D with the L lens. Lucky people that found that one. The lens alone was worth double the price of the whole thing. 😱

        • @cnut: Not at all, mate. I called the closest store to me yesterday and the guy I was speaking with on the phone told me there were only two left in the whole of Adelaide and they're in the Marion store. When I got there the bastard behind the counter told me they're sold out. When I told him that I called another store just a moment ago and I was told there were two in his store, he told me they were on-hold and have already been paid for (that's despite that no on-hold were allowed on these deals). Good for you, lucky folks. Enjoy.

        • @AussieDaddy: That sounds like BS. I don't think people can pay over the phone. Probably employees keeping them.

That sucks to hear. No luck price matching anyone?

        • @cnut: All the receipts that were posted here were from other states and as far as I know (at least TGG), their price matching policy is that the sale should be local and that it shouldn't be a clearance (like what DSE is doing now) so I didn't bother to look for a price match, really.

PS: Yeah, I could sense that the store guys probably had the cameras in stock at the moment but didn't want to sell them. Those prices were insane and the lucky people were those who got them early in the day. Once the staff realized the crazy deals they decided to keep as much better stuff as possible, I think. Well, I can't blame as I would have done the same thing if I were in their position, to be honest.

        • +1

@AussieDaddy: Yeah same here probably. I kinda feel sorry for them too. Not only do they have to put up with countless repetitive questions (and some abuse by the sounds of it) but also have to sit there without being able to get the bargains themselves.

I almost feel like they deserve to get some good stuff themselves.

        • @cnut: Definitely they dude, mate.

        • @cnut: Nope, I saw some people today picking up a TV they placed on hold over the phone.

    • If you can find a 48 foot TV in stock I'll be impressed.

  • -7

Will the prices increase by 80% a minute before midnight like they do on ebay? That is the question.

  • +4

I'm going to buy a sick as security system tomorrow to protect all the crap I didn't manage to buy today.

Besides those 73 selfie sticks. They're going to be protected. My precious…

  • +2

Guys do not bother going to Chullora as it is head office and don't go to Bankstown as the staff have no idea go to Liverpool or the Westfield stores

    • Eneloop is there any chance you know the range of PVRs on sale tomorrow?

    • +2

Any advice on which stores to go to tomorrow in Adelaide?

      • +1

        See you there maybe ;)

        • Maybe! lol

PS: I have been to the Marion one yesterday, looking for the Canon 7d Mark ii, but the guy at the desk told me they were sold out (though when I called West lakes I was told only the Marion store had two of them). Went to the West Lakes and Glenelg stores today and didn't find anything worthy on sale.

    • Chullora is massive though. Wouldn't they have heaps of stock and the most up to date price signs because they are head office?

ACT stores have a dozen small tvs on display if we are lucky.
