    Don't forget Amex statement credits

    • What's the deal for that one, could someone link please?

    • Registration for that offer has closed now.

  • Can someone recommend a decent socket set? Happy to spend a bit on it. Thinking of going with a stanley set given I can't find a sidchrome set in the catalogue.

    Just needed for basic tasks!

I'm assuming the SCA branded set are cheap for a reason?

Sidchrome is made by Stanley tools. Have both brands and they are great.

Never had an sca socket set, but I have a few other sca tools and they will only be good for occasional use. Definitely not trade grade at all, but still good for home use.

Stanley also has a lifetime warranty, as well as the toolpro brand found at Supercheap. Pay the little extra over the Calibre kits for the peace of mind that is found with a lifetime warranty.

Stanley, Black & Decker group market under a lot of brands.
Whereas tools were once quality and made outside of Chine, they're almost exclusively made in China these days.
I've had Stanley and Sidchrome fail.
A tradie mate has had the stainless steel corrode/rust within weeks!
Oh and most items are 12 month warranty with Stanley.

I personally use Bahco these days.

        • @086:
Knick was asking about socket sets. All the toolpro and Stanley socket sets at SCA have a lifetime warranty.

        • @Josh1990:
I've been informed plating is not covered under warranty to start with and that Stanley will only honour 12 months.

        • @086:
My dad uses tools made in India (Unknown indian brand), Not sure if "trade quality" and no warranty whatsoever beyond the short term "break it and we'll replace it" at the local store. Cheap too. Best things ever. Almost likely to have been older than me. I think you cannot beat solid indian steel tools.

If you are casual tool user, the Stanley set will be more than adequate for pretty much anything. And that's a good price.

      • most sets come upto 23mm socket sizes, anything bigger than this you need to buy a separate set. Large sizes are seldom needed but you end up shelling out money on single sockets if you ever need one

    • have a look at repco , iirc they do a lifetime warranty

or head to a real tool shop

    • Get a kinchrome set from bunnings when they have the 50 piece ones or what not on special.

Otherwise stanly make a 3/8" with deep sockets which would be extremely useful in some instances - have seen it at supercheap before

Does anyone know if they still give the $10 credit when you buy the sca club membership?

    • +2

I bought the "club plus" membership today for $5, the store rep said i will get $10 credit after activation.

  • Any good bargains?

    • +3

      ^^ Hahaha - This guy!

      • I'm hoping someone will say no. There's a 20% thingy running on eBay, spent some money already.. bargains aren't free!

        • that's for tech items now

the one where SCA was included is already expired

  • Just bought the 36" Toolbox combo for $299, its great, quality seems much better than some of the red entry level chests you find in tool shops. In particular I like the red, quite a bright one so looks quality. Draw slides are smooth and fairly tight, some sideways movement at full extension but similar I would say to the toolpro chests which are more expensive. Now I just need to whip off the SCA badge and find a Sidchrome :)

  • Anyone vouch for Turtle wax? I was thinking about getting Meguiars which are 20% during SCA's sale

    • +1

Don't know what this turtle wax is like but i can definitely vouch for Meguires! High quality products and worth every penny.

    • Producats vary wildly. Specifically what are you buying?

Stanley 133 Piece Roller Cabinet Tool Kit $249 KIT (Save $250 / 50%)

This is a piece of junk. It is regularly discounted and has been ~$150 before.

Warning: 1400kg trolly jack - these will not jack high enough for most car stands including the SCA ones (this seems crazy). Also I tried lifting 1700kg car on a corner and it failed on me or perhaps it had just reached it height limit, but it actually went down a bit. I really doubt the honda euro it was jacking up was putting over 1400kg on it. The stands seem okay but in hind sight the ratchet ones do not have a safety pin, I would get ones with the safety pin if re-buying.

    • +1 i ended up buying another one which can jack higher, especially applies to most 4WDs.

I bought the turtle wax kit. Not bad at all. Only worth it half price as the stuff in there isn't worth more than $30

Note that regular turtle wax is 1.25L around $15 the one included is 1L. But consider you get other items for another $10 so its ok

Buy something small add to $30,go with Amex deal.

I would wait for next sale if nothing interests you. Still got up to mid Dec for AMEX

  • Went in today - thought the 25 pack of microfibre cloths was pretty good.
Basically $1 per cloth for large microfibre cloth - 70x40cm.
