    This is an excellent price on a seriously good pair of headphones; if you don't listen to a lot of bass and don't mind sound leaking out (or in) these will give you a rich and expansive soundstage. They should also double as an insanely good gaming set if you attach a mic to them (think antlion modmic 4.0 or v-moda boom mic).

      These are a massive step up from the M50's in my opinion. The clarity is astounding. More bass with the Audio Technica but these have a wonderful sound stage and are so much more comfortable.

      Also bear in mind that the ATH-M50s are 'closed' so harder for others to hear your music and you hear them. whereas the HD598 are 'open'. Definitely a step up but different usage. Go get it =)

      These are definitely a step up from the M50s. They sound great without needing to be amped. The soundstage, treble and clarity cannot be compare to the that of the M50s

      it will be a huge step up provided you listen to the type of music that benefits from it's sound signature. The m50s are arguably a better listen with bass heavy music like rap, EDM etc; you will also get better noise isolation with the m50s. For pretty much anything else including gaming this will be miles ahead.

        This just convinced me, using a set of on ear momentums for train rides + work, these will go great for tunes + gaming at home.

        Need to look into a mod mic next I think!

        Now have entirely too many sets of headphones.

      Eh I think the Q701s are supposed to be better headphones, but they're far more demanding to power - what do you amp them with? (I used to amp my Q701s with a Fiio E17 which was just terrible)

        Hm. Good question. You have a neat amp - definitely want to stick to your Q701s for music.

        Depends on what kind of gaming you do. AD-700s work better imo for FPS gaming as the low level bass doesn't distort the sound of gunfire.

      You won't need an amp. If anything, to improve the quality of your movie audio and music, listen to higher quality audio (320kbps or FLAC) off a good source (eg ipod or iphone, PC with sound card, external DAC).

        I use iRig HD to connect my guitar which plugs into my USB port. It also comes with Lightning connector so I can use on iPad/iPhone too. Works great and the only option once Apple decided to combine their audio in and out ports.
