  • Looks like a pretty good compact camera, reviews seem to rate it pretty highly. I like that it has the manual viewfinder too.

Any other better / similar options worth considering at this price range?

    • The Nikon Coolpix S9900 is fairly similar on paper. The main difference is it lacks the electronic viewfinder, but does make up for it with a vari-angle LCD which is great for selfies and video blogging. http://www.digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au/prod12184.htm
But despite the similar specs and price, the Panasonic is by far more popular.

    The only downside:

Maximum time to record motion pictures continuously with [AVCHD] is 29 minutes 59 seconds.- Maximum time to record motion pictures continuously with [MP4] is 29 minutes 59 seconds or up to 4 GB.

Yes, you will find this is the case with nearly all compact cameras. The reason for this limitation is a tax in Europe for 'video cameras', where a video camera is defined as any camera that can record over 30 minutes continuously. To get around paying this tax, most companies limit the recording to 29 minutes 50 seconds. The other factor is that the FAT32 file structure on your memory card has a 4GB size limit per file, which may be reached prior to the 30 minute limit, depending on the quality, frame rate and bit rate you record in. If long videos are your primary requirement, Id recommend just going for a dedicated camcorder.

      • Any chance a discount on FZ70 ? thanks in advance.

        • Sorry, I don't set the prices :(

        • @end user: it's all good, just checking, thanks anyway. :D

    • Most European/AUstralian PAL still digital cameras have this restriction.

  • how does it compare to Panasonic TZ70 and TZ57?

    • It's cheaper!

      • But seriously, the TZ70 has a higher resolution electronic viewfinder and a lower megapixel sensor, that should deliver sharper images with less noise, than the 16 megapixel sensor on the TZ60, but IMO, the difference is will be unnoticed by casual photographers.
The TZ57 is EOL, but if you can find one it is half a step below the TZ60 as the name would suggest. It loses the EVF, loses 10x from the zoom, but does have a flip-up screen for selfies and group photos.

There are quite a few differences.
      TZ70 has RAW format
I bought TZ70 and the quality of the pictures is better than of TZ60

  • Any bargain for fz300?

  • During the October e-bay sale, TZ70 could be had from The Good Guys for about $330 after cash back from Cashrewards

  • well i wasn't actually looking for a new camera, but this 30x zoom + manual controls + compact size for $298 makes my lumix fz7 rather redundant.

    • The FZ70 would be a great option for you as an upgrade if you're comfortable with the size of your FZ7.

But I agree, the TZ60 is brilliant for it's size (and price).

      • i do prefer the ergonomics of the fz series vs a compact but sadly they (along with DSLRs) don't travel as well

        • The way I see it, most 'compact' cameras these days will go into a case, pouch or bag anyway. Putting one in your pocket along with your phone, keys wallet etc is just awkward. So if you appreciate the ergonomics, I think you won't regret sticking with something from the FZ series.

        • @end user: these days i never bring my fz anywhere unless i know for sure i'll need to take pics.

any space i can save in my carry-on bag is a big plus. and when i'm not travelling, let's just say my cargo pants live up to their name ;)

        • +1

@tdw: No comment on the cargo pants :/

          @end user: function > fashion ^_^
