  • Thanks EC… I missed out last time

    • Don't worry, I'm still waiting for the order to be filled from that last deal.

Do read the reviews before buying: the drives suddenly dies for about 15% of users. If you want something more reliable, look elsewhere.

    • Been using this for a year now (got the 128GB for US$35 last year). Still working fine.

I must say however, that I quite hate the sliding collar design.

Which came first, probability or statistics?

        • The advice, to which I wanted to say, YMMV.

Thats like saying you purchased a Dell computer and it didn't work, therefore no Dell computers work at all.

        • I didnt say that. Gweilo did. lol

  • Sorry just a quick question, which one is better… This or https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/220669.

The sandisk apparently gets hot when plugged in for a while, so depends on how your going to use it,

Personally i would do with the Sandisk for the size factor

This is a bargain sharing site. Not a personal shopping assistant.

  • The drive isn't reliable for plugging into TV and watching movies off it. Had one for nearly a year and problems are slowly creeping in.

  • Managed to get the 256gb for $49.99USD last night. But it changed before I realised it to $84, now up to $90usd.

  • A query:

What are people using this for?? I'm trying to come up with a viable reason to have this capacity in a flash drive (as in, they rarely give any notice they're going to die vs. HDD's). What's the allure? Is it only for TV watching (as has been talked about here?).

    Ta

    • Don't mean to be rude, but if you can't think of a use for the product, the product probably isn't for you.

    • Handy for someone who needs to have fast, large capacity storage in their pocket. Obviously it's not for deep storage (because, as you rightly said, flash drives die without warning), but rather for temporary storage (daily work/uni stuff) or quick transfer of large files where a network transfer is not feasible. If you can't think of a use for the capacity, like O15 said, you probably don't need it, and would be better off with a smaller capacity USB3 drive.

      • @O15, johnno07

I work in the tech industry. What I'm querying is the use of this device when, though you can get larger & larger capacities, they are always much more expensive per GB than a portable USB3 HDD. I'm polling to see what the actual uses are for those who are purchasing these vs. a HDD.

My son is at uni atm, studying for a dual-degree in computer science/computer systems engineering. He can't see the use of such a large flash drive either? At least, not in any general sense…

I suppose if you were talking about a weight/size issue (FIFO workers), these would be handy, but what else?

        • Fair enough. Probably more likely that people just stick a hundred movies on it. Doesn't matter if it fails.

        • Personally, I pay the premium for convenience these drives offer (in both size and speed).

My job involves a lot of transferring data. Installing images, installing programs, copying 50+GB worth of documents only several hundred KB in size.
A fast flash drive makes all these things quicker, especially the last one where the access time is much quicker than a portable hard drive.

And like johnno said, I also have a few for quickly chucking a heap of media on.

  • Now it's even cheaper
