Thanks, does seem to have started. It's a bit of a shame as I wouldn't say any of them are really a 'steal' of a price.

Yeah occasionally they make pricing errors and you gotta be quick to snap it up. But as for digital sales MS isn't great most often, it's almost like they see it as a privilege to buy digitally with them.

      • or almost as if other stores sell Xbox games cheaper to get you into the store or purchase other things from them.

I guess its called a loss leader

        • Digital games come with two licenses, one to your gamertag one to your console.

        • @Jarr0d: thats not why they are priced that way

    No real "deals" there.

  • I can't seem to access any AU prices on the store, only US.

Also, if you wouldn't mind, I bought a Windows Store $100 gift card the other day from the recent Windows Store AU sale; can I use this to purchase games from the US store or is it region locked?

I saw a list of the 360 deals, they're much better for obvious reasons.

    • US pricing is always notably better too…

I believe the Windows Store card won't work with a US purchase.

      • It used to be the case. Lately I've found the AU prices to be better in many cases once you factor in the poor exchange rate.

        • I think that's more pronounced for physical copies given how cheap they are, MS still often shafts us digitally, like when I mentioned FIFA Street below.

As an example with current sales… GTA5 is $36 in the US, which is about $50 converted, it's $60 AUS on Xbox Live.

        • @scuderiarmani: I was referring to digital. It'll be largely case by case but. There was a sale on Fallout 3 DLC a few weeks back and I believe it was considerably cheaper to get it locally than from the US digital store.

If you're shopping around digitally, there's a few other regions worth looking at too. Singapore and a few others can sometimes beat the US prices or have their own promotions that are worth chasing.

I'd say as a rule shop around as in my experience the variations will vary game to game, largely due to how the publisher sets their local prices. With the falling AUD I don't think the US is cheaper than AU as a rule any more, where it used to be the case more often than not.

    • Credit is region locked. If you have an account in multiple regions, you'll have independent credit balances for each region that you have a billing method for.

If you want to access AU prices you can swap the region on the Xbox website by browsing to the bottom of the page and changing the region you are in.

      • i think if you swap regions your old region balance is scubbed to zero? could have sworn i saw that warning when i changed from au to uk region last year.

        • Don't believe thats the case. You don't swap regions as far as the billing account is concerned so much as you maintain billing information for multiple regions at http://commerce.microsoft.com. The local account will be used based on what store you are purchasing from.

I currently have credit in two seperate regions, and the region I purchase from will determine what pool of credit is accessed.

Geometry wars is a masterpiece of a game

    • Yeah that'd be the must buy for me if I didn't buy it day 1…

  • On the US site, the video mentions "Go gold for $1":

    http://www.xbox.com/en-US/black-friday

…although when I just logged in to my US account, it actually had an offer for a month free (need CC and have to cancel auto-renew though).

Hopefully have the same deal for us Aussies :)

    • does games purchased with US account playable by anyone in the console?

      • Someone may need to confirm, but if the game isn't available in our region it can cause issues, I know I tried something similar with Jurassic Park for Xbox 360. To my knowledge though it wouldn't cause issues, similar to how PSN works.

      • Also, are games in UK or US cheaper than in AUS?

I know this was true when AUD was high, but not anymore, is it?

        • They are much cheaper in the US. For example, I know last week a 360 game (FIFA Street) was around $28 in Aus, on sale from $110… in the US it was around $7-10.

        • @scuderiarmani: Wow, thanks for the info mate.

Still they consider Aus as gold mine

      • I've had no issues in the past getting games on the 360 via my US account, then logging in with my Aussie account and playing them…not sure if it still works the same on the One?

        See here for more info:

        https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1907975

        • Should be fine then if it works with 360.

I know it works with PSN.

      "Go gold for $1"

I haven't checked, but if you take that up just make sure you aren't going to be billed on a recurring basis moving forward. In the past I believe those $1 offers put you on a monthly plan with auto billing which was far more expensive than getting a prepaid 12 month card from somewhere.

It's not a bad deal for $1, but just make sure you won't be billed for a second month.

      • I remember the days of being able to buy the 1 month for $1 deals like 6-7 times (and no auto renew).
