Always found they burnt their milk wherever I went, but YMMV.

    • -2

Reminds me of a coffee i bought a while back whereby i asked if the beans behind the counter were for sale (there were 10 bags on a shelf, to which they gave me a puzzled look and said 'no, we don't sell coffee , these are for our machine" OK, that explains the burnt black tar i just drank!

  • +2

Can you buy 2 at once for Christmas presents? Then get the $10 back on Amex Shop Small maybe? I know my local Coffee Club is on the list..

    • +2

Seems like you can only sign up online, not in store. Signup form explicitly says "no amex".

  • +3

I purchased one for me, and then did the process again, and got them both for $10!

  • +7

They were also free at one stage, iirc.

back in my 'soccermum' days if I recall :P

  • Awesome thx

  • I may be biased on my comments - when I used to have their VIP card I always found their coffee on a weaker side ( 3-3.5 on a scale 0-10, 10 as strongest). I said my opinion maybe biased as a) I like stronger taste coffee b) I only buy from them when I had the VIP card, so I suspect they deliberately dilute the coffee ( such as one shot to 2 cup of coffee instead of 1 ?) lol…..

    • I don't think this happens…

      • pretty common for barista to give half a shot of coffee and keep the other half for another order…seen it done and know of it :\

        • +1

This depends on the size of the cup. A small generally comes with one shot and a large generally comes with 2 shots. 1 shot is 30mL and they just press a button so I don't think they are deliberately keeping the half a shot for someone else. On the double heads, more coffee grind is needed to produce the same amount of crema and taste than the single heads, so if they only have one order of coffee, they use the single head rather than the double.

If you want your coffee stronger you should just tell them you want a double shot. They won't charge you extra… rarely atleast.

        • +1

@bao28: Really? I always thought they charge extra for a double shot?

        • @bao28: everywhere I go add 50c or so for a double shot. I don't get them, but know people that do.

But yeah, I haven't noticed any difference between a coffee purchased with the VIP card to one purchased without. I don't think they're holding back for certain users, at least at the places I've been to.

        • +1

@Smigit: I should qualify my biased comments as, out of the coffee clubs I visited in NSW, Vic and WA, the only one time I felt happy was a cuppa at Bunbury in WA, where I was by myself and not with the VIP card. It tasted much better than the ones in other states, and happen to be paid in full price…. Go figure

        • @AllWins: yeah wouldn't shock me if some stores held back, it's just not my experience. At the same time I'd never accuse Coffee Club of producing consistent quality drinks. We do go there since the VIP card does make it half the price of other places and generally the coffee isn't terrible in our eyes, but also rarely particularly great either.

        • We should also be specific with Weight requests. Like, what the hell is a single shot or double in weight? 7g? 14g? I've never asked a cafe because I notice most, if not all will just 'scoop' some coffee grounds. My standard 60ml shot on my machine is 18.5 grams. So unless i'm ordering an espresso shot, it's going to be utterly diluted with burnt milk or boiled water to dilute.

    • it depends on the coffee type! what do you drink? cappuccino is one shot and latte is double shot!

  • Good thought rdchristy, might try that.

  • All payments processed in AUD

i renewed my membership with this

    • Luck you!

I just tried, mines not due until May and got this -
Sorry memberships are only available for renewal 3 months prior to your expiry date. :(

      still A good deal !

  • Bugger paid $12.50…suppose they got their cuppa saving already

  • +8

ive never had a good coffee from this place! I had the membership a year or so ago (free from a deal on here) really they should pay you to drink their coffee… its bad..

    • Depends where you mean by "this place" considering they have 300+ stores… obviously YMMV depending on the barista

      • +1

I'm amazed at how bad (for me) their coffees are. I've been to 3 in Adelaide, 1 in Darwin, 1 in Katherine and they all tasted the same! Amazingly consistently bad! Maybe I'm just not suited to their coffees but the only thing that comes to mind when I walk past the coffee club is "watery, burnt and bitter long blacks".

        • Yeah most can be very average, but there are some that do consistently good coffee too. And in some places in the styx you probably have no choice but to get bad coffee.

Since I work in the CBD, no chance buying one from The Coffee Club, so no deal for me haha.

  • Thanks OP been waiting for this

So its not valid on the weekend and thursday for the 10% off, which is when most people go shopping as a family. So really for MOST PEOPLE it is a 2 for 1 offer, with the hope you will sit down and spend more on food when you do go out with your partner, family, etc.

      • +7

You've come to realise businesses are in business to actually turn a profit, well done. Just a clue for future, all "bargains" and "sales" you find are to get you to purchase from their business and increase turnover, not just do you a favour and make your life easier.

For $10 i'll grab it, I dont mind a coffee or light meal from there on occasion and im sure i'll make that $10 back over the course of the year, so its not the kind of deal you can throw your job in and spit in your bosses face, but its an ok deal.

        • +2

Am i the only person to find it odd to pay a store to buy stuff?

Just like costco, pay a premium to get savings?

Or pay a rsl club membership just to eat at their restaurant.

        • @Skimpywallet:

I'm confused by the last line in your comment, since when do you have to have a membership to eat at an RSL?

        • @tranqme:

Not sure if correct, but I think if you live in the club's catchment area you're forced to sign up for their membership. And since you need to give your ID (D/L) which has your address you can't really get around it.

So just go to one in another area, LOL.

  • Wish other Baristas would take notice of Coffee Club Memberships. Their coffee is average and would be nice to go elsewhere when there is a 20 ppl deep line at the Coffee Club

    • +1

The place is always packed at Knox City too, it makes me feel a little klaustrophobic with so many conversations and music going on. I might be autistic.

      • I'm on the autism spectrum.. not sure what your point is.. shouldn't I go to the coffee club?

  • +1

I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS. Had to resist the urge to renew my membership until this offer came =P

  • -1

For all the people complaining. Have you ever thought about going back and asking for a new coffee? Tell them it doesn't taste right?

    • +2

If the first one doesnt taste right, what would u expect from their second go? Its the same blend, same roast, same milk and same barista.

      • -1

I wouldn't touch a coffee club coffee with a 10 foot pole, but all these people complaining about how they only got a half shot because they used their discount card? Go back and ask for a stronger coffee. If I got a weak tasting coffee at a coffee shop I would go back and ask for a new one.

    • +1

life is too short for bad coffee

      • +3

… and to remove your USB safely.

  • Does it still come with one free drink voucher?

  • Been waiting for this! Thanks OP!!

Being coffee lover, both my partner and I have to say that coffee at The Coffee Club is average. However when going into a cafe with 2 kids and a pram, coffee club offers quick seating, space, average but consistent coffee AND colouring for the kids. That's the difference between Coffee Club and (most of) the specialty Cafes around Melbourne.
To top things off… it works out to be $2.20 per cuppa!

    • But… it's coffee club…. :(

    • Plus free babycino

      • @chumlee I never knew! Is that at every Coffee Club you have been to? Or most times?

        • Everyone I have been to give you a free babycino with every coffee.

  • +1

There is also a BOGOF beverage offer in Entertainment book for those interested.

  • I picked this up when it was half price a couple months ago. Such a good investment, 2 for 1 coffee is the bomb. Wonder if I can renew an extra year or something for the extra $10!

  • Thanks OP. This is valid for all stores in AU? Plus can i buy 2 cofees and get 2 free?

    • +1

Yes u can. All aussie stores. Max 2 free cups per day. Good for office coffee runs

      • cool, i will be travelling to NZ too, do u think it will be valid in those stores?

        • +1

The new zealand coffee club terms say, "VIP benefits are available at all of The Coffee Club locations throughout New Zealand and Australia. If you are visiting Thailand, VIP benefits will give you access to a 10% discount off the total bill."

But the Australia Coffee Club says, "VIP Club Card is only valid at The Coffee Club Stores within Australia…"

Luckily you can also get a card for $10 at the nz coffee club, as it currently has a similar promotion. https://www.cheapies.nz/node/4192

Only potential problem is that the application form requires a New Zealand address.

        • @twocsies: thanks mate ;)

  • Yeah in my experience the coffee is decent, I'd rate it good, better than average but not amazing. I find its consistent in Perth anyway, so if in doubt I'll hit up a CC and their food I think is great!

  • +1

    Worked for me.
I have always wanted to buy a membership but couldn't afford it, until now! A few coffees and its paid for itself.
I've found their coffee to be really nice and the staff are friendly in my local Coffee Club.
Sometimes the cafe is noisy, but that's only because its full - so they must be doing something right.
And doing some research on The Coffee Club, they do alot of fundraising for local communities and here in WA, for Telethon.
How can that not be good!

Don't forget, when you buy your membership, you can use the confirmation email printout for immediate benefits of your membership while you wait to receive the card in the mail.

I'm not affiliated with The Coffee Club in any way, except for purchasing my membership.

  • IMO the Maroubra Junction Coffee Club makes excellent coffee, and it is nice being able to treat someone else at the same time.

  • And they take Amex too - nice

Edit: I mean the store does when buying coffee. Mine at least.

  • How do you buy this as a gift? Should I just register in my name and give the card to the recipient?

  • -3

Why are you middle class people so obsessed with coffee? It's the liquid equivalent of tobacco - a noxious substance which people effuse about for some reason. I have seen numerous complaints above from spoiled bourgeois complaining that their beloved coffee wasn't perfect. Oh what an unmitigated disaster!

    • I'm actually a lower class person. Household income is not above 300k.

      • LOL

      • I am even lower than you, just pips over 200K.

    • Wouldnt the liquid equivalent of tobacco be alcohol? If so toxic, shall we tax it like we do tobacco? Shall we restrict sale of coffee to before 3pm in case patrons start kinghitting each other?

Interesting write-up about Australian coffee culture from a long-time cafe owner.

      • Interesting read.

Reason why aussies like capps and flat whites more than espresso could be due to availability of delicious fresh milk

  • Thanks mj190471. Just ordered my membership. My last membership with coffee club was $5 which expired a few months back.

  • Thanks OP
