the 1gb ram doesnt make it much different with local w8 tablets, which were seen cheaper, with perhaps the resolution exception.

had our currency been better this would be good deal

    • Yes, similar to Unisurf 7" Windows 16GB Tablet + Free Office 365 Personal 1 Yr @ Harvey Norman but better resolution. I bought at $28, but returned.

Note the limitations found in that deal… power from micro-USB normally can't be supplied via OTG cable, so suggested application with USB keyboard (could use Bluetooth) & storage will only last as long as battery. 1GB limitation was a major issue.

      • Original intention was to have the power bank, but I did try and squeeze this tablet to be as close as possible to that, but unfortunately our exchange rate sucks.

        • [Edit] Tablet power supply issue -discussed in that link. Other cheap tablets have dedicated power supply socket to free up the micro-USB for memory etc use.

        • @Infidel: Sorry I worded that wrong. My original intention was just to have a powerbank deal, but then thought that it would go well together.

        • @Clear:
          Ahh :-)

  • 1gb ram concerns me.

    • It runs pretty well. You can actually play Skyrim on tablets with the same specifications, but at lower graphics and resolution of course.

I'd be more worried about the 16GB flash. Its ok initially, but Windows updates will soon fill it. I can't see a win-10 upgrade working. Even 32GB is tight.

      • Windows 8 introduced WIMBOOT. Compressed system files into images and that's how it fits onto 16GB. No hope of even installing Windows without it.

Details on OzBargain & Whirlpool of successful W10 update on almost identical tablets (Unisurf link above). Updates took up too much of the 16GB.

Of course, manic you contributed greatly to the discussions here :-)

Trying hard not to remember the Unisurf that got returned :)
When I said "upgrade" I meant an upgrade install as opposed to a clean install. Did anyone manage that? All I recall is clean installs of the preview.
But a clean install will need a new windows license, won't it?

        • @manic: An upgrade install will convert the Win8 license to a Win10 license. Then you can copy the key and do a clean install. Clean install will of course wipe the windows.old folder which allows you to downgrade within a month of upgrading. It's also why the upgrade takes up a lot of space.

I did the upgrade then clean install with my PIPO X7.

        • @Clear:
The X7 has 32GB, so easy. Has anyone been able to run the upgrade in 16GB though?

        • @manic: I had the unisurf and able to upgrade to Windows 10. Forget how but something with delete the backup partition first to free up some space. But yeah check the old unisurf thread there are many of us could. And windows 10 uses less space then windows 8!

        • +1

@manic: Takes up about ~12GB after a Windows 10 upgrade according to Google. Clearing the windows.old (win 8 installation), $Windows.~BT and $Windows.~WS will clear up significantly more. That's how I got over 16GB free on my Pipo X7 while the upgrade itself left about 10GB.

Whirlpool has a few posts about the Unisurf being upgraded to Win10 too.

        • @eisniwre:

but something with delete the backup partition first

No! Thats the live WIMBOOT partition, not a recovery. You'd only delete that for a clean install.
But yes, amazing that people have done it. I'm guessing that WIMBOOT might be deletable once win-10 is running? Or is it still needed to boot?

Still, the 16GB limit is going to cause a lot of headaches down the track. Windows is a resource pig.

        • @manic: cant remember, but yeah i didnt have plan to roll back to win 8 anyway, win 10 is MUCH MUCH better for tablet,
so yeah i delete anything that were delete-able to gain extra spaces.

Not interested.. too low spec and screen too small for any kind of desktop application.

Could you negotiate a better price on the Pipo W3F instead?
    http://www.geekbuying.com/item/PIPO-W3F-10-1-Inch-Win10---An…

    • I could try.

The Cube i10 is currently $129.99 US with the coupon Cubei10, but unfortunately that's not quite as good as the W3F and the coupon will expire sometime tomorrow.

    • Alright I got a reply and the best they could do is knock $5 US off.

  • This is the X8, right?

The X9 has larger screen, etc.

    Shop around & compare.

    • Different product altogether. The PIPO X8 and X9 are a Tablet/Box hybrid.

  • for people that are into the powerbanks, is this a good deal?

the ozzyb inside sees a lot of stored power, and a relatively cheap price for it
but is it better than other ones?

  • Can the Windows 8 licence key from the tablet be used to install a fresh copy of windows 8 onto a separate computer? (Assuming you do the right thing and not use it on the tablet)

    • Yep.

      • +1

I am pretty sure you cannot.

        • Why not? It's a genuine version of Windows 8.1 With Bing. All you would need to do is get the license key (very easy) and download the Windows 8.1 With Bing ISO from Microsoft and you're all good to go. Windows 8.1 With Bing is Windows 8.1 Home.

Because you guys did not pay for the Microsoft windows license that came with your tablet. Microsoft made windows free on all tablets under 9 inches. Even OEM windows license that came with prebuilt computers, which the system builders actually paid for, cannot be transferred to a different computer. So yeah, please do not market items you did not paid for.

        • deleted.

        • @demiurge: Thanks for the clarification

        • @demiurge: That is correct, but it's still technically possible. There was a deal not too long ago here with $49 OEM licenses being sold by JB Hifi

        • Sure, it's technically possible to pirate windows 10 as much as you like. But the fact remains that the copy of windows 10 on the tablet cannot be legitimately used on another computer.

        • @Clear:

Technically possible, but will be deemed unlicensed when the key is being auth with the authentication server.

        • @jpl: Phone activation ;) But I obviously know now thanks to demiurge that you can't do it with these Bing licenses. Wouldn't go down so well with a Microsoft audit and they've been doing the rounds lately. So thanks for letting me know.

  • Rep, will there be a deal for the new Mi Band 1s? I see you guys are having a preorder already!

    • Yep. I can't do a deal until it's instock.

      • Sweet! Will hold off purchasing from other sellers and wait for your deal here. Fingers crossed it won't be long!!!

        EDIT:

Oh, and not forgetting the new Xiaomi Hybrid earphones as well. Heck, just do a combo deal for the 2 of them! :D
