  • Why did you post this if there is no deal?

I wouldn't buy the Chinese version, Kogan had the Chinese version and it was riddled with malware.

    • Assuming they're using the same supplier…

      • They would just be flashing the international ROM on the Chinese phone.

        • The supplier does that. Obviously some will add their own modifications to the firmware.

    • Reflashing with something like Cyanogen would fix this though?

      • +2

I bought the Chinese version (dual sim) a few weeks back with the OS they call 'Hydrogen'. It had its own malware and useless apps.
I flashed it with the international OS version (which is called 'Oxygen') following the guides & steps available online. I'm using it with no issues since then.

Please note, Vodafone 4G works fine with Chinese version, but may not work with other 4G network in AU. Check www.willmyphonework.net/ for compatibility.

        • Excellent info, thanks ar993

Good for those to use their $100 ebay voucher.

    NO DEAL YET

    No deal, No bargain…

As far as I'm aware, this phone is not fully compatible with Australian mobile frequencies…..yet the OP claims that it is?

    • +1

Doesnt have 700mhz LTE, as with most imported phones.
      Everything else works fine.
I have this phone and its great value and works great on Telstra standard 4G.

      • +1

EDIT: 700mhz seems to affect a fair bit you if you're with telstra/optus.

      • Missing 4G-700MHz (aka 4GX on Telstra or 4G Plus on Optus) for Telstra and Optus, 4G-850MHz for Voda, and also missing 4G-2300MHz (TD) for Optus as well.

It's missing a fair chunk of the 4G bands for Australia.

        Not really fantastic value.

I would pay the little more and get a Moto Nexus 6 instead…can be had for like $575 local Aussie stock on Ebay now.

  • I would get a Nexus 6 over this. A little more expensive but at least it covers all the 4G bands we need in AU

Assuming you mean the 6P, the RRP is twice the price of this phone for the 64GB.
But yes you can save $100 by shopping around, still more than a little more for the 700mhz band…

    • No clue why I'm being negged…A Moto Nexus 6 covers much more of the Australian 4G bands than this device does…plus it has a better screen, stock Android and can be had with Aussie local warranty for $575 from some vendors…

    Deal is now ON !

I've been using this phone for a month now, and very happy with it. Great phone!

    • EDIT: nevermind

    • Same. Using it for around 2 months now, and can't complain at all! Excellent device for its price.

    • same with me! i got the Chinese version - had to flash with the international OS tho

  • vs the LG G4?

    • +4

LG G4, however running a benchmark test such as Antutu, the OP2 kills the G4 by a mile… I'm loving my LG G4.

      • I don't care when the G4 performs great. I bet the 1+2 loses in coverage and taking photographs benchmarks.

  • +1

Sadly no G4 deals from last few days.

    • I would get the G4 over this even if it wasn't on sale. If you are going to buy a Chinese phone missing bands, you may as well go with the cheaper Xiaomi phones.

  • How does it compare to the G8?

Tried to look through reviews online and on YT but cannot seem to find any good ones about the G8
