Go in store and buy multiple $300 gift cards. Potential savings of up to $250 if you have 5 registered AMEX cards each with the $50 rebate offer.

Please note the offer ends 8/11/15. Not today.

      • T&Cs exclude gift cards

        • +2

The T&Cs have always excluded gift cards but it has always worked.

        • @unity1: Cool, I might use my amex offer then :P

  • +4

    stooooopppppp tempting me……damn u OZB!!! :P

Nice deal tho, thanks OP! :)

    • Mainly thanks to Cadjan comment, I was watching then when they hit 12% off last night but it wasn't this low :)

  • i wonder if the 12% off sony tv promotion applies to the new price for today

    • details?

    • This TV was $3163 earlier in the day @ 12% off. This is a special deal that will run till 8/11/15 as advertised, obviously to ruin the party for JB HiFi.

  • +3

the main thing stopping me are 2 things:
    1. size - I want something bigger (60"+ as I'm already on 50" 3D)
    2. active 3D - I'm currently on the 1st gen 3D (active 3D), and was told that passive is better (less likely to make u puke, no need to recharge etc)

(this is more like thinking out loud homer style….be strong…must…resist!!! lol)

    • +4

It doesn't hurt to air your thoughts as to why you might or might not buy the product and hopefully if someone has any additional insights to provide they will chime in and help your descision one way or another

    • my understanding is that only LG has passive 3D?

      • Definitely incorrect. My Panasonic has passive 3D

        • Most of Panasonic's 50"+ TVs are using LG panels.

Maybe your TV is using one of the passive 3D capable panels from LG?

          Can anyone confirm?

      • Only Passive 3D? Passive 3D is better at the moment on a 4K set. The only real disadvantage passive 3D has compared to active is that it runs at half vertical resolution so on a 1080p set you're actually only seeing 540 horizontal lines. On a 4K set however since its vertical resolution is 2160p, passive 3D simply brings the resolution down to 1080p, which is the full resolution of a 3D Blu-Ray anyway.

      • My sony, which is a couple of years old now has passive 3D. Used it once, thought it was pretty good, never used it again though.

        • same hear with my Toshiba.. Was fantastic when I first used it, but now I never use 3d..

    • HN also have a great price on the 75 inch version: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/tv-blu-ray-home-theatre/tvs/t…

      $600 less than everyone else.

  • Today? It says 8/11/2015. Sony sometimes chucks in a soundbar or PS4 (sony store) on specials so the EFTPOS card is nice. Doubt I can negotiate down to include a soundbar at that price though!

  • Will this tv be able to receive 3d 1080p 120hz (60 per eye) signal from PC (nvidia tv play)?

    @homersyd
I personally find the active 3d great for viewing and even better for gaming, and don't think passive 3d technology is there yet. Maybe next year.

    • question is WHAT IS THE REFRESH RATE AT 4k??

      update

This 4K Ultra HD TV can be upgraded to the latest HDMI 2.0 standard to accommodate 4K/60p content playback via internet software update available now

Thats pretty good. Didnt knw they can achieve this with software alone

      • I believe the format for 3d TV and nvidia play TV is frame packed, where the resolution is twice as large, at 60hz, to accommodate two frames at once.

        • what about for standard video not 3d or nvidia play tv

  • How is this TV at scaling 720p and 1080p content?

    • A lot depends on the quality of your 'content'

    • I know the next 2 models up are very good at this, but can't find that info on this one.

    • I have the 49" model down from this (same processor, also 4k), and it does an excellent job of upscaling 720p and 1080p.

  • +5

    wow, great deal
even better than the JB hifi one, factoring in $25 voucher + Amex $30 back + $110 eftpos
    if only I needed a TV……tempting as

  • How much does it weigh? And what would be the weight difference say compared to a 60" LED of the same make (I know Sony don't have the size but similar Samsung). Specifications just have Width, Length, Height.

  • -5

Can i watch tv on this
or can it only be used for gaming?
    Please help me now.

    • Sony Bravia 55" UHD LED LCD 3D Smart TV

    • +1

      It's a TV. :)

  • Very tempted, I am holding off for the OLEDs to come down sub 2K price. But this is almost impossible to resist.

Found a good review here (model seems to be from late 2014, so just on one year old),

    https://www.avforums.com/review/sony-x8505-kd-55-49-65-x8505….

One thing to point out is that in this review it says 3D performance not great (not too bothered with 3D myself). They also say it is Passive 3D yet the JB and Sony sites state active 3D.
Note, no 3D glasses included, so must budget for that if interested in 3D.

I've got it in my cart at HN…. to buy or not to buy, that is the question.

  • Anything in 40-48 inches?

  • any chance this could be hauled home in a 2011 corolla sedan or is it a ute job, anyone know?

    • +1

Aren't they supposed to be stored and transported upright?

      • +2

        Thats was for Plasma TVs.

LCD TV no problem. We receive TV stock on pallets are they are often lying flat.

    • Yep, standing up at the back seat of your corolla should be ok, mate brought home a 55" samsung on a honda civic. If the box longer than your back seat, you can always move the passenger front seat forward and slide in the tv in an angle. Hope this help.

    • Corolla no chance , I have a 2010 xr6 sedan and have it in the back seat , just fits , won't even fit in the boot

  • Just bought one, Thanks for the post!

  • +6

Went in store. Said they couldn't match the JB price on interest free. Come home and seen this. Boom! Ordered it online through GE and chose the store that knocked me back to pick it up from. Can't wait when I walk back in that door!

If I plan to claim TRS, do I need to show the product upon leaving? Cheers!

    • yes,you have to.
There is a TRS office before immigration who will verify your purchase.

      • -1

Due to the nature of having to 'check in' the TV due to size, can I just claim to have checked in the TV therefore unable to produce it? I also remember TRS office to be post-immigration, please correct me if I'm wrong.

        • No you have to go to customs before checking in (not TRS) and they'll stamp your receipt saying they've sighted it. Then you can put it in checked luggage, go through security and claim at TRS.

        • +1

Checkin the TV first and then take the TV along with the checked-in baggage receipt to TRS.
There is another TRS office for heavy items before Customs who will stamp on your receipt. Then take that receipt to the usual TRS after Customs.

    • +1

how do you plan to carry a 55inch tv on a plane as a carry on luggage. plus im sure you ll pay duty at the destination. larger screen sizes hv duty i think

    • That's alot of hassle for $140. You'll need another person to travel with otherwise you'll have to pay the money back when you return to Australia. If you're planning to keep it overseas, you should consider you won't have warranty if there are any problems with it.

  • Only reason I'm not upgrading to 4K is the input lag for gaming is nowhere near the levels of the Bravia W900A 1080p set I have.
Otherwise I'd be all over this.

  • What would Gaming be like on this - if gaming with an XBone ie input lag & resolution scaling etc

    • -1

your xbox doesnt even do 4k why the hell would you bother with a 4k tv?

      • Well, that would apply to the majority of peeps who get it to use it as a TV ie FTA broadcasts & Blurays

        • -2

the same comment applies to those people

personally im only after one to hook up my PC to it so i can actually watch 4k content or use it as a 4k monitor

Unless you have 4k content the upscaling isnt worth the cost at the moment

Better off getting a top notch high refresh rate, low latency FULLHD tv for a fraction of the cost

Trust me. Theres no point getting this top of the line now when you dont need it cause prices are gunna come down exponentially and the specs are gunna get better

        • @furythree:

Fair Enough - other than streaming Netflix UHD I was wondering if future proofing was worthwhile at the moment

        • -3

@Wally: ull save more money if you wait till next year or at the very least get better specs

possibly hdmi 2.0a capable units with 4:4:4 chroma and lower input lag

or use that money and build a gaming pc :)

        • @Wally:

Future proofing is definitely worthwhile. This model does a great job at upscaling 720 and 1080p content and with the latest software update supports full 4K at 60fps running in 4:4:4. Also has quite low input lag

  • Peers, for those interested; I posted a link to the wrong model review (I'm a sucker for reviews from people more learned than myself), these are the correct links.

At least they could have put "out of stock" like dirty dick does but geriatric gerry removes the whole page like it never existed, bit like his own memory of Gouging us the Australia TAX on goods and then crying foul when we buy goods from overseas at half price.

    $1498 ENDS 8.11.15

  • I wonder if HN will process or cancel these orders as they have done to me in the past.

I'm doing a HN live chat with Nadia, so Gerry is even outsourcing his live chat support ppl.Unless working in Perth which is 3 hours behind,so that makes it 7:15PM over there.
Update : she told me all stock has SOLD out. Might ring around tomorrow a few stores out of curiosity.

    • +2

Ordered mime at about 630pm. Went in and picked it up at about 8pm with no drama. Got the eftpos card on the spot at the register.

  • Ordered mine at 4:55pm before running out the door from work, had a call about 20-30 minutes later saying it's ready to pick-up from their warehouse and the eftpos card is at the store to collect. They then called up to tell me that it also came with netflix and asked for my email to send it to. I went to the store tonight not realising the warehouse was separate but they had them on display for that price, however the sticker was for the cheap thursdays, so that might explain why it's finished now.

  • Thank you to the Original OP.

Went down to HN today to do a deal with em. thought it take this to good guys.
Presto they beat it buy another 190 bucks.
ended up ordering 3 of them to use as confrence room screens for work. so quite happy with this deal.

    • +3

Today??? What time did they open? Could you post the receipt for us?

      • +3

        4:45AM apparently

        • yeah thursday night obviously not at 4 am lol

        • Receipt please!

        • @janster: i can post it but it wont be valid HN doesnt have this price anymore so doubtfull GG would match it.

  • -2

Got a call today from HN. They said it ll be a week before they get it. I find it very surprising because it showed that the tv is in stock when i ordered. Anything you guys suggest I can do? Cancelling and buying it from another store via pricematch?

    • It's better than the 3 weeks this person was told to wait https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/218445#comment-3177282

    • Mate … its a week … we could have had better!

    • -1

If I were you, before you cancel it I'd check if the other store will honour it with the $110 eftpos card added towards the discount.

      • Also, the thing is that with HN, who knows they might come back after a week or two saying sorry cant provide it, dont hav any in stock.

  • Hi guys, For those of you who ordered online what sort of wait time have you been advised? I ordered on Thursday, got an email on Friday saying ready to collect but was turned away at the store saying it could be up to 8 weeks for stock to arrive.
    Cheers
