Still top quality. I use Henckels in the kitchen, but Wusthof has never made a bad knife. You can see that these are tang riveted - good stuff.
Calling them budget probably isn't right. If you're after a decent block from a decent manufacturer but don't want to spend the earth (on a forged set - these are stamped) then this is the way to go.
The only real drawback aside from not having a bolster is that the softer steel means they need to be sharpened more often. Still, provided you look after them they'll last near forever.
If I was in the market for knives I'd still go a classic set but I'd buy a fish filleting knife from the gourmet range.
I'd personally not spend $200 on stamped knives. You are probably better off spending the money on a single chef's knive (or paring + chef) as most people won't use the other peices in the set!
Hard to tell if this is good value or not as they appear to be the only people selling it in Australia.
well that is a good price..look at their ad..rrp -$70 !!!

What part of RRP $289 + bonus knife RRP $70 is hard to understand?
@Maverick-au: My mistake - excited and didn't read properly.
Different set. Gourmet vs Silverpoint. Different knives in the set (Gourmet has scissors, for example).
These Silverpoints are not tang riveted. I would avoid them.
Is this Wusthof knife set better or comparable to those Wusthof's on offer via Macy's (USA) that was posted the other day?
It's exactly the same as this one which comes to $215.10 inc shipping: http://www1.macys.com/shop/product/wusthof-gourmet-starter-7…
Those are their budget line… ewww
