Yes the Z2 Has sd slot according to the sony site

  • How come the Z2 is still this expensive? I've never actually seen the Z4 in stores, was it just neglected by Sony?

Nexus 9 is a good deal, though.

    • Sony normally Announced their phone/tablet, which you won't be able to buy until a year later : )(3months later).

  • Can I add something to make it 300 for trs

  • +3

If only Telstra eBay have the same price listing $299. So I can use my $50 or $100 voucher.

    • +1

Yeah keeping an eye on it, if it changes I will update the post :)

    • Just purchased one from the Telstra store for 299. It wasn't updated in their system for some reason but the person there changed it to the advertised price at the store. It was the last one there unfortunately!

      • -1

Damn.. did you buy it using the Ebay voucher $100 for $199? hmmm…

  • Would people consider the Nexus 9 a good upgrade over the Nexus 10? I do like my Nexus 10 but feels a little slow on the gaming. Great screen though…

    • I'd also be curious to know this as my Nexus 10 is getting a bit long in the tooth. In the meantime have you looked at Remix OS? Gave my N10 a new lease on life. On the upside, check out eBay, they're holding their value beautifully!

  • +1

    Props to you OP!
I've been hanging out for a good Nexus 9 deal. Just grabbed one.

  • thanks i ordered one :)

  • For $300 this is well worth it. At this price you don't have many alternatives, 16gb mini 2 refurbished from apple store is probably the closest thing locally to offer similar performance.

    • Except that's not Android.

    • +1

But the screen is smaller and its on a shitty OS

  • Comparing the tablets is a different market really. The nexus is better for using day to day, the sony for consuming media.

If you're buying it for flights etc, go the sony.

  • want to buy but wont cos I have a nexus 7 and I only really use that when I travel or when Im on the toilet…lol

  • Thanks OP…got one :)

  • Does Australia not stock the white model? Or are they out of stock for it?

    • Never seen the white model, google play store might sell it

  • 16 gig is a little small I am still happy with my nexus 7 2013

  • +1

How do I add multiple items into shopping cart? The Web site only has a "Buy now" link which you can only purchase 1 item at a time. Thanks

    • I'm not sure that you can. The store's horrible. Try asking live chat support.

  • +2

Very tempting. But I already have laptop and phablet… I dont need a tablet, or do I?

    • Rule of thumb:

Scale up 4 inches with every device you owned. Otherwise it's an overlap.

      For instance Nexus 5 + Nexus 9 = awesome.

      However Nexus 6 + Nexus 7 = Bah

Likewise Nexus 6 + Nexus 9 = Less bah but still bah.

      (I just invented this rule.)

      • Pretty cool rule, dont want no devices get left around and get dusty!

So the Telstra store conveniently has issues just as I enter payment details and it tells me

"There is an error! Please check your bank statement to see if the transaction was successful".
No account page, I have no idea if they've taken my money. Ordering from Telstra is scary!

    • So did they debit your card? You might need to dispute the transaction with your bank.

  • They have conveniently cancelled my order because they cannot "authenticate the information I provided"

  • Picked up a Z2. Thanks OP!

  • Has anyone noticed that Telstra is no longer on Cashrewards? I still have quite a few transactions waiting for Telstra to pay up :(

  • anyone get a tracking notification or anything?

Telstra payment page said 2 day delivery!

    • Received mine (I didn't expect them to deliver it today, given that it is a public holiday in VIC). However, disappointed with the quality control. There is a dead pixel, LCD backlight flickering (it has stopped for the moment), and backlight bleed at the top (while it is common for smartphone/tablets, it is more prominent than usual). Just like the reviews, it is not the usual HTC quality you get for this tablet (it is definitely inferior). There is also the constant updates after updates (rather than 1 main update, you need to go through a lot of incremental updates before reaching the Android M update).

Still unsure whether to return mine or not (I really don't like dead pixel(s)). But at this price, plus the hassle to go through online support….

      • thanks. ill see how i go with quality

        courier? auspost?

        • I ordered the Z2 and it was dispatched via Startrack (owned by AusPost now).

Dispatched from Melbourne yesterday afternoon, out with driver for delivery today in Sydney.

        • StarTrack

@klownz: thanks, just got the email with tracking.

      • I just got mine. It's got a fair bit of light bleed as well.

        • Wells it's the biggest mission to get a return sorted.
Went to a Telstra shop, they confirmed it was faulty but told me I need to call up Telstra to get a return sorted. After an hour on the phone I get told they can't help and I need to go onto live chat.
20 minutes on live chat I get told I need to call up. Hooray for circles.

Supposedly a case manger is calling me back within 48 hours.

          Such a waste of time.

        • @ddd: Thanks for the info. That's what I am afraid of. I kinda want to return mine, but I know it will be a very time consuming process (knowing how inefficient Telstra is - each department only knows very little and they tend to keep on telling you to talk to another department).

        • @netsurfer:

I hate to say it but Telstra beat me. It's all just too hard, I'm just going to put up with it and hopefully never have to talk to Telstra again.

      • Did you decide to keep it?

    • Better get on live chat - I'm getting some bs about "not having enough details in my order - cancelled"\

      Now escalated to case manager..

      • Same thing happened to me, cancelled because of suspected fraud. They asked me to go to a Telstra store to verify my IDs. Ridiculous!

        • I got through to the Aussie call center and it miraculously sorted itself out whilst on the phone to them (they couldn't even find the order).

  • Waterproof to 1.5 m for 30 minutes in fresh water (Z4)

perfect for running through the washer when it gets grubby.

    • +1

      Nonononono…Please don't do that.

Water from a running tap has much higher pressure comparing to soaking in 1.5m of water. I would advise only doing so when your device has a 100m waterproof rating, let aside Sony wouldn't cover all "water damages" since you can't prove that your caps are properly sealed when you rinse it.

  • Couldn't resist, bought the Nexus 9.

2pm WA time - Received tracking number. Purchase was made 3am Sunday morning.

    • Sound like they have plenty of stock, in a package ready to put shipping label on and ready to go, great stuff.

Order mine at 3pm, 4pm got tracking number.

  • Mixed reviews on the tablet, especially on release due to high expectations. However a great tablet for the price.

    I ordered one.

  • Hmm. Ordered mine on Sunday morning, still haven't received a tracking number. So much for "two business days".

    • Update: Went through live chat three times, twitter once and a call once - got nowhere (varying versions of "it's waiting to be shipped out and you'll be sent a text message when it is"). Try again yesterday, get told that actually the order has been cancelled (but they didn't put through a refund request). So I've got the refund sorted, ordered another one and apparently that it with the courier for delivery today. Good lord Telstra customer service is a pile of garbage.

  • Have any others received theirs? Is the quality ok? Anyone going to return theirs?

    • Received a Z2 - happy with the quality :)

  • If you haven't received your order or tracking number, please contact LIVE CHAT and get them to raise a formal complaint.

If not, no one will be able to help you since all the available phone support number cannot even find orders made from the online store.

    • Have you received yours yet? I have contacted live chat twice, first time was told that it was ready to ship out, second time that it had already shipped and they got me to call their "deliveries team" who, after 40 minutes could only say that the order was "already closed" and that I should talk to live chat again.

9 days later, no device, no tracking number, but I'm still short $299.

      • Well… after storming Facebook page to no avail, I got the issue escalated with the Live Chat supervisor which said that I will get a call back from him on Thursday with the tracking number.

Telstra's online order is very poorly managed.

      • Fyi, I received my tablet today… That long winded Live Chat session over the weekends did help after all. I insisted them to send it to me instead of requiring me to go to a Telstra store and show my IDs…

  • I received my 9, manufactured sometime in December 2014. Minimal light bleed, less than my Air 2. Buttons are fairly flush but they do click. The only sore point is the back cover, which appears to not be glued to the chassis. You can push anywhere and it gives until it touches the chassis. Overall happy given the price.

Still waiting on mine (ordered on Sunday a week ago). I received an email with the Star Track tracking number last Monday, so was expecting it to arrive in the first half of last week.

On Thursday, I checked the tracking website again and found it was marked as delivered, but rather than to me in Perth, it was signed for by someone called "B STARMILES" in Sydney. I got on the live chat and was told that there was a problem with my order and that it had been redirected to Telstra's warehouse. They didn't have the courtesy to actually tell me any of this prior to me chasing it up. They said that in order to fix up the order I'd need to go into a Telstra Shop and provide three forms of ID (one with photograph) and proof of employment. I pointed out that this was a bit of a weird request for a one-off purchase with no ongoing service.

I went into a Telstra Shop during my lunch break the next day. Unfortunately they don't have any way to check online orders in store, so the woman there got on the phone for me to try and help. That call lasted about half an hour, and the end result was that they couldn't help me in store and recommended I get back on live chat. She also couldn't work out why they would ask for all that information.

On live chat again, I told them everything that had happened so far and was asked if I'd gone to a Telstra Shop to provide my ID. After running through a few other details, they decided that this is actually a pre-paid purchase (despite there being no ongoing service attached to a wifi tablet) and transferred me to another representative. They took some time to read up on the case and then asked if I was trying to get a refund. I told them I wasn't, and only wanted them to deliver the hardware I'd paid for. I was given another tracking number (of the form SR 1-XXXXXXXXXXXX) and told it would be shipped out. I haven't heard anything further since then, so I might need a third live chat session to find out what's going on.

I'm surprised at how badly managed this online store is.

    • One week later and still no tablet. After getting radio silence I tried live chat again last Wednesday, and they went back to demanding that I go to a Telstra Shop to present ID (despite telling them that I had visited a shop and they said they couldn't help). They also tried to tell me my order had been cancelled right after the first live chat session, which seemed unlikely given that no one had bothered to tell me that in any other conversations after that point in time and there had been no emails to that effect. In desparation, I decided to try going to a different Telstra Shop to see if anything different would happen.

This visit was similar to the first, but I got a little more information about the problem: while they do have the facility to take ID at the shop for orders, this needs to be linked to an account. And since I hadn't purchased any ongoing service there is no account. So to help things along, he set up a placeholder account for me and attached some details of the conversation there and told me to ring up complaints and quote a new reference number to try and sort things out

On Thursday I rang complaints, and and explained everything again. The representative tried calling the warehouse to try and track down the status of the order. Since it was taking a while she asked if I wanted to stay on hold or to get a call back. I opted to stay on hold, since I wanted to see the issue resolved (and I could still work while leaving the phone on speaker). I'd been on the call for almost an hour when she got back to me saying she was still having trouble getting in contact with the warehouse people and promised to call me back when she got some info. That call never came.

Today, I rang complaints again to check on the status. This time, it seems the package may not have ever been returned to the warehouse at all. He also thought it is possible that the order had been delivered to the wrong address after all (i.e. what I suspected when I first got in contact with Telstra about the problem). So now they're chasing things up with Star Track, and I should be getting a call back from a senior case manager in complaints in the next few days.

  • I ordered a Nexus at 1pm last Thursday. Had a tracking number by 3pm, and attempted delivery at 12:30pm on the Friday. Less than 24 hours for delivery from Sydney to Melbourne.
No light bleed I can notice so very happy.

The tablet is good, but Telstra is awful.

I bought this online on the 2nd Nov.
I received a confirmation email shortly afterwards. It included a link to the tracking site, and an order number.
I didn't realise until the 6th that the link to the tracking site was for someone else's parcel, which was successful delivered on that day. They live a long way from me!
Fortunately, I could use my order number to track my order, which I discovered had been sent back to Telstra the previous day.
With it being a weekend, I tried using the 24 x 7 chat site as advised on the original email.
I've been trying to get through with this tool, but with no success.

Eventually, on Monday morning I find time to go into the Telstra shop to sought the mess out
I get advised, that because I am not a customer (ie on the phone) they can not help me as they are only a franchise shop.
So I mosey on down to the bigger Telstra shop.
They were more helpful, but inadvertently led me on a goose track. Fortunately they gave me Telstra's main phone number and said I really had to phone them to sort it out.
    So I phoned them.
Dont ever guess which department you need. If you get the wrong one they keep you on hold for hours and then get shitty with you for not having the information!
After two attempts (guesses), and two hours on hold later, I find the correct department and a kind lady that knows about me and my order! Hooray.
She cant help me though, because I am not customer!!!!!
I have to use the site, which I have been unsuccessfully trying for 3 days, to ask for a ticket to be created so that I can become a temporary customer, so that she can help me!!!! What the!!!!!
Anyway, she ran out of time in the end and had to go home.
So I spoke with one of her contacts.
He has told me to go back to the Telstra shop and they will refund me in the morning.
I told him that I had tried this for 2 hours today with no success, but he assures me it will work as he has written some notes on my customer file. (even though I am not customer!)
    Sorry Telstra, this is ridiculous!
Will I come back? I will follow the advice given to me by the Telstra guy in the Telstra shop. Never use the Telstra web site. Always come in to their store.

  • This is the worst online shopping I have had so far. I experienced similar things to what others have said.
First call I was told to call another number (control group), and they told me that my order was "on hold" until I provide three forms of ID, proof of address, and proof of employment. I went to the store but they could not help with without a reference number so I need to go there again the next day because the control group office was close. Even after I gave my IDs, The store cannot tell me the status of my order and I need to call Telstra again by myself. After many calls and web chats they could not simply tell me what happened to the order. They can only confirmed that it has been cancelled. So they advised me to make a new order.
Second order, received the tracking info the next day only to find out that it has been delivered and signed by another person in different location than me. At this time I asked my issue to be escalated to a case manager. No as I expected, the case manager also does not know why my first order was cancelled and why my second order was sent to a wrong address. Unbelievable, even the case manager knows nothing!
Eventually, the parcel arrived at the end of week. Apparently, it has incomplete address printed on the label, which I think was caused by a bug in their online system.
My problem is far from over. The tablet has all the known issues (overheating, clumsy back panel, really bad light bleed) so I went to the store and exchanged it.
I am now still waiting for the refund for the first order. Probably I should have cancelled it from the beginning.

I find it ironic that Gerd Schenkel's name is on every email sent by Telstra online, considering his well-known track record here..

  • This is the reply from Telstra's Facebook page:

"We did have a separate Online Shop phone support team available previously, but there has been recent training provided so our consultants via 13 22 00 should be able to help with these online orders as well. While we can't request account details or other personal information over Facebook, the case manager for your complaint can also follow up with the team leaders of the phone teams you were speaking with. Greg"

    So you guys can call 13 22 00 now…

  • Excellent price, thanks OP

  • Can you plug a hard drive into the Nexus tablet? Via an adaptor perhaps?

Bit of a new with tablets, just know it's not possible with apple ones.

    • Generally you can, yeah. You'll need an adapter cable. Hard drives with external power work, and usually 2.5" drives which are powered just by the USB port work too but depending on the model the tablet may not supply enough power to spin the physical disc.

A flash drive (you can even get some with both a full size USB and a micro USB so you don't need an adapter) will definitely work.

  • -2

All these people bad mouthing my beloved Telstra. So you have to wait for a couple of hours trying to get thru only to be disconnected, yes I admit you don't get the stuff you paid for… Ok and so you say the Nigerian scam artist's are way more honest. Nope not convinced! Still keep going back and you say its been like that for over 30 years? So who is the fool here?

    • So far I have had an order cancelled without telling me, been billed twice, spoken on the phone twice and on the live chat five times, and I'm still awaiting a $299 refund promised two weeks ago because of the incompetent dipshits who run the online store. I haven't had a phone service with Telstra in a decade and it's easy to remind myself why.

    • +1

I've purchased a few items from telstra's eBay store and it has been great so far. The last thing I purchased was a belkin tv thing that was advertised as new but the box was faded halfway down a side - it must have been a demo unit whose box was in the window for a while. I complained and they issued a full refund and let me keep the item.

  • It's gone from the Telstra Website, time to make it as expired I feel?

  • bugger, looks like i've missed this one

  • Anyone still waiting on theirs? I'm told they are waiting on HTC to send through stock, getting very concerned about what I thought was an early purchased Christmas present
