Two small batteries is better than one big one. You can charge/use them in rotation and in use will be lighter and better balanced.

    Great deal OP.

  • This does not appear to be a hammer drill?
Im tossing up between the dewalt or https://sydneytools.com.au/milwaukee-m18bpp2d-202c-18v-2-0ah…

Or maybe I should stick with ryobi as I have the batteries, my favorite drill is stuck on a single speed :( and I do have another Ryobi drill but it really
does not seem to have the same speed or power, odd.

    • The Milwaukee ones would be better tools and the batteries are better. Worth the extra $20.

The advantage of DeWalt is that they're readily available at Bunnings in case you need an extra skin or a replacement battery.

      • Sorry but dewalt are far better than Milwaukee, I have a full kit of dewalt and mine have more torque than Milwaukee and it shows in the grinder and hammer drill.

Looks like a decent kit for starters I would like this for the extra batteries and charger, sell the skins.

As a tradie I use mine ona daily basis and some workmates have Milwaukee and even they agree with torque.

        • You seem to know your tools. Care to comment on this kit from Masters for $360 after the 10% off coupon https://m.masters.com.au/product/101227853/hitachi-4-piece-c…

          Customer reviews are good.

Dewalt are not far better than Milwaukee, they are both great brands. Milwaukee are a little stronger at the moment, Dewalt have been slow on releasing tools in the latest li-ion 18V range.

In this case, the Dewalt drill is an entry level unit, which is inferior to the initial DCD780, which is in turn inferior to the brushless DCD790 (both of which I've owned). The Milwaukee drill (i currently own) is akin to the DCD790 in power and quality, though not in runtime as its not brushless. It does a ripper metal chuck.

The impact drivers are both quality, but the Milwaukee has a LITTLE more torque and has 2 speeds.

The 2.0Ah batteries are much better, and have battery indicators on them.

The Dewalt kit is very decent value, but the Milwaukee kit is excellent value.

If you want a hammer drill I'd suggest this Milwaukee hammer drill driver with 3ah.

      $219

      • Looking around and that is a Really good price!!

        • I picked up a dewalt hammer drill/driver from this deal which is also at Sydney Tools. It is one of the best purchases I've made as the tool is so versatile being able to hammer into brick and concrete and also for driving in the smallest screw. Get your bit and technique right and you won't have any issues. The 3ah battery of that Milwaukee will keep you going all day too.

      • After googling review of Sydney tools, I was too terrified to order from them. I didn't need an impact driver, so I bought a hammer drill from Milwaukee instead from Adelaide Tools, was $269 instore

        https://adelaidetools.com.au/cordless-tools/milwaukee-18-vol…

    • The DeWalt 'Hammer' drill is shit anyway. I don't know if any of the cordless hammer drills would have enough power to actually be used properly.

  • Yeah neither are hammer drills

    • Ah I didnt realize so many didnt come with hammer as standard.

      • Do I need a hammer drill if I just do small renovation around the house?

        • +1

If you need to drill holes in bricks, then yes. Otherwise no. If you need to drill holes in concrete I'd recommend a rotary hammer instead.

        • @eug: Thanks. What if it's the other way around - if I have a hammer drill, and say use it for furniture assembly (and also for drilling holes in bricks). Would the hammer drill be too powerful to be used in lightweighted tasks (and break my furniture)? Sorry for the noob question.

        • +1

@louuisc: No problem, a hammer drill will work fine for furniture assembly. There's a clutch (the dial at the front of the drill) that will let you limit the torque. When it turns 'hard enough', the clutch will slip and go clack-clack-clack instead of over-tightening the screw.

It'll be heavy though. If you have lots of furniture to assemble, a smaller 10.8V drill would reduce fatigue. An impact driver would work too, but without a clutch there's a greater risk of overtightening screws.

        • @eug: Many thanks!

Personally I'd get a cheap sds+ rotary hammer drill for $50-60 and a cordless for all the other stuff, the rotary hammers chew through concrete/brick a lot faster than a normal hammer drill.

    • I got a cheap Ozito SDS+ drill last year and was stunned by how bloody quick it was. Almost too stunned not to drill through the other side of the wall, but thankfully I realised just in time. Get one!

  • These aren't brushless are they?

    • Me too! They're great… What was the point of your comment though?

Looks the same as the B&D one that COTD were flogging for a lot cheaper a few months ago (I got it for $94.50 in one of those club catch trial sales).

In fact, there's quite a few brands that seem to be rebranding this exact same drill set.

So I'm not sure if this is that great of a deal.

  • i need to buy a decent one to build merbau deck at home. do you guys think this will work fine for such DIY job or its gonna struggle?

    • this will do just fine. The 1.3Ah batteries won't last as long as bigger batteries though…
