$2 "Hub" Brand 16GB Micro Drive USB 3.0 @ Woolworths

2490

Cheap usb micro drive. Got tempted while waiting for my click and collect nighthawk router. They've got about 19 on the shelf at Double Bay NSW. Not sure if store specific Mod: Appears to be Australia wide, stock levels vary.

Cheaper than the $8 listed previously..

    Save $16

    Lol

    • Why LOL?

      "It's better than half price"

      • +4

because $18 is expensive for a generic 3.0 usb stick. I think jv thinks it should be more like $10.

nonetheless $2 is a real bargain.

  • +27

Thats a really bad product name. Sounds like a USB Hub with built-in 16GB storage.

    • Agree. It made me opened the link and looked at "what usb comes with storage?". LOL

      • I just saw hub and thought "nice"; I feel let down :(

      • +2

USB hub with Built in storage, brilliant.

OMG this is a multi-mullion dollar idea.

    • +8

      names can be really annoying.

There's also this bubble gum which they sell in disc thing called hubba bubba but its not a hub and its not suitable for babies either.

      Seriously, OMGWTFBBQ DSE

      • Ahh Gimli you always seem to make me happy…

    • nice found, just placed my order online pickup tmr :)

      The 8gb selling $10.00

    • +1

      Unavailable to buy.

      • Yeah, unavailable at my local store, but others may have more luck.

    • Unavailable

    • Unavailable also. I don't see any mention of which store though if it's tied to a specific store.

They seem to be available now but minimum order of $30 so had to throw in some groceries too…

    • +1

Huh, I actually saw these in Woolworths Chatswood before this post. Not marked special on shelf as of 15 mins ago. Can't be bothered going back now, so maybe it'll scan lower if someone wants to try.

      • +3

It was still showing $18 at my woolies but I got them to scan it and it was $2. Thanks OP!

        • +1

Also got write speeds around 20-25MB/s. Better than my usb 2 sticks so quite happy.

      • Was just at Chatswood, they didn't have the USB 3 16GB sticks. Only USB2 or 32GB and definitely not marked on special.

        • Might've been sold out. Pretty sure I saw the $18 ones.

        • +1

          @elusive:

          USB2 16GB are $18

        • @uggugg: Really? Also hub brand? Interesting.

        • +1

          @elusive:

          Yep all Hub brand.

    • Thanks! ordered some!

  • good find! thanks for sharing.

  • How much is the 8gb one… $1? $0.5?

    • see above $10.00

  • They've got about 19 on the shelves

That would be at which Woolworths? :)

    • +3

      the title

      • +2

You got 2 upvotes for telling me the location of the Woolworths the OP is referring to is in the title when it isn't -_- I just wanted to point out that OP specified stock level at a particular Woolworths store without mentioning which one ;)

        • @Lukian: Odd, no reference to any location was in any part of this post when I checked…

        • @gokhanh:
Click Revisions up the top - all versions contain store location.
At time you posted, title stated "$2 16GB Hub USB 3.0 at Woolworths Double Bay NSW" as pointed out by Lukian. I read the deal at that time.

        • @Infidel: Like I said, I didn't have that, I promise :) Thanks though.

        • @gokhanh:
          It's no real issue anyway.
          Hope you found some.

        • @Infidel: FYI I checked the Wooloworths here in South Melbourne (Spotlight Centre); nothing but some $10 optical mouse and the $5 USB fan.

  • BTW an USB fan selling at $5 save $20.00 but who will spend $25 ?

    Hub USB Hub - USB3.0

    • +8

They'll change their name to Drive.

    • +1

Wait until this company starts making actual USB hubs.

I know you were joking but they are actually selling USB3 and USB2 hubs of the same brand-name in Woolworths ;-)

  • I got this last week when it was at $8, was happy with that!~

    • +16

      until now~~ lol…

  • +3

I would have bought all of them without blinking.

    • +5

i challenge you to a staring contest.

    • I did.

  • +3

Any results on a what terrible speed to expect?

    • Hahaha would be retarded slow.

    • i got an average of 41mb/s reading speed and 27.7mb/s write speed

  • +4

$2 dollars is cheap but i'm not sure I'd even want one of these if it were free. I just can't trust some homebrand drive with my data/documents.

    • +4

Use it for your car audio, nothing to lose, except your $2 gold coin in the worst case.

    • +2

You should NEVER trust your data/documents to any brand usb key.

      • +1

thats like saying - you should never store data on any drive, apart from the Cloud
I think its all relative, and depends on how important said data is
My point is - There arent many things I'd trust to store on a woolies $2 drive
Sandisk - No I wouldnt put the sole copy of plans for the Death Star on it either, but I think I would feel reasonably comfortable putting say, a powerpoint file on it on my way to a work presentation.

        • +1

Ive got no problems storing stuff on a $2 drive because it's all backed up of course. I wouldn't trust a sole copy of anything on any type of media.

  • +5

need 15 for free pick up.. lol

  • +1

Brisbane McArthur central got at least 7-8 of them, scanned at $2, hurry before they are gone.

    • +3

      MacArthur*

      As in BigMac… not McDonald's ☺

  • Can we get a speed test? I'd imagine it'll be terrible, not even USB2 speeds..

    • +6

surely they would need to meet certain speeds to pass as USB 3.0, unless they were manufactured at Volkswagen!

      • +1

Naaah.. All they need is a USB3 supported chip. It's quite pathetic actually. :(

        • +2

might ring 60 minutes then…and get the boys at the University of West Virginia to check them out!

      • USB 3.0 standard identifies the Speed of the BUS technology not the actual USB drives capable speeds.

      • i doubt you even have USB 3.0 on your computer

  • Anyone done a CrystalDisk benchmark test?

    • I did

      • care to share? probably more curious about this drive than any other ever… lol

    • yes, i would be interested to know so i can then convert my 10 into a Hippie chain if too slow

  • +3

    USB 3.0 16GB - tested slow. read 43MB/s write 27MB/s

It was $8. I refunded it. But at the price of $2, buy it back???

    • thx

    • so roughly speaking based on those write speeds, it would take just under 10 mins to fill one (16,000MB divided by 27MB divided by 60secs)

    • Thats pretty good results actually. Especially the write speeds. I was expecting 10-15MB/sec speeds

      • Not worth $8, but I have no complaint for $2

  • No stock at Neutral Bay.

  • I also refunded the $5 fan because it is quite noisy.

bought a $1 mi fan on ebay instead

I Brodened this deal (sorry) at Bayswater

    http://imgur.com/VsyRKsf

Edit- I did leave 6 units. Price is normal until you scan at register

    • +1

      Nice thumb

    • +2

Nah broden is like 20 units and flipping for profit. There were a few brodens for the recent target sales.

    • Noice!

    • +4

Nice one mate.. I see your shirt is has years of growing up room..

      • hahahahahaha

  • Bought 6 for pick up on Friday

    • why… just why?

      • +1

        Because he can.

      • +1

because these things disappear faster than usb battery boosters. you can never have too many. I've been meaning to get a handful when I see a good deal, and like somebody else said, I'll take the lot if I see these in my local woolies.

        • 16? You can't lose that many usb's can you? There's probably more than 1 ozbargainer per woolies, so leaving some would be nice for others. Nonetheless I understand your point.

  • +3

Some smart arse put a box of 8GB in place of the 16GB. Hahaha

    • Got them back. Bought 10 from other store.

Some joker ripped off the $2 sticker. That why there was some left.

      • +2

nice - that's like having somebody watching over you, protecting the bargain just for you.

I think that smart a is staff. They do it with heaps of stuff, putting 2 litre coke where the price if for 1 litre, or something not on sale in which stuff that is.

        • I have my own OzBargain angel.

  • +2

Woo, 64 Gig raid 5 SSD for a tenner

  • No stock at town hall
