The iPad Air 3 is forecast to be released in March some time (last update 2 days ago).
I ended up paying $900 for the iPad Pro (32GB RAM) from Dick Smith using 10% off deal because the CPU is almost twice as fast and it has 4x the memory - the 13in screen (vs 10in) may be an advantage for some, but I was hesitant to buy a 15 month old product. In technology terms, 15 months is a long time.

Like 4892 said, more stocks might appear in more store locations. As of yesterday afternoon, they were all gone from Morley WA Officeworks but they are now back in stock.

I posted this deal earlier but was taken down due to limited quantities. As of yesterday afternoon, an hour or so after I posted the deal, all the Ipad Air 2 were all gone online in my officeworks Morley WA preferred store. I know for a fact that depending on your store location listed as your preferred store, the availability of the Ipad differs. So if it shown to you as no stock, try other store location. And by the looks of it, officeworks have put more stocks for Morley as they are all shown as in stock again. So your store might have more stocks later on.

@jamesligit I have been eyeing on Ipad Air 2 for a few weeks. I checked all the places I could check for that would give me the best price and also give me a tax invoice as am flying overseas in a month so I could claim the GST back. This price is it.

6 months ago they were selling these for $615 at Officeworks. Picked it up, found it useless then sold it on Ebay a week ago for $650. It's weird how prices work, the sale wasn't even for a special event. Just a random sale that my Officeworks friend told me about.

Called up a few Officeworks around Melbourne and they said they had none in stock.
Went to Good Guys instead who price matched it (guy couldn't believe the price Officeworks had until I showed him the website)
Went to David Jones for a price match as per their price match policy. They said they couldn't do it as it'd be below cost. (that's not what their policy says though!)

Officeworks just emailed me their new catalogue (05/11/2015) and I checked the app Lasso to see when it supposedly ends and it said 11 Nov 2015.
It shows the iPad Air 2 (WiFi, 64gb) for $687 each. I guess it'll stay at that price for some time?

When does this expire? It's still current and it's in the catalogue which started on the 12th of nov. I can't find anything in the catalogue to mention how long it will last for. Is it a week, ie it could stop at any moment now as it is the 19th?
If I were to buy one of these as a christmas present, should I get one now or wait for an ebay sale or something? I've never followed apple products and I'm not entirely sure how great this price is since these things are rarely discounted and/or excluded.

To give an idea of pricing. In the US there has been discounts of $150 off. This puts their price on a 64GB at US$450 - AU$640 exc GST (AU$1:US$0.70). If the dollar was better, we could have gotten it for $500 - $560 (90c and 80c to the dollar) but with the falling dollar price may not get cheaper unless a new model comes out but here's to hoping. Remember retailers are discounting off the RRP of $829 in Aus.
Refurbished iPad Air 2 in the apple store is $629 with 1 year warranty. Apparently it's been checked over with new components that need replacing and resold.
And just half year ago prices were around AU$620 for a brand new one.

I went to store yesterday with intent of buying, but was just blown away by the Samsung Galaxy tab s2. Lighter, thinner, cheaper and microsd slot. So I walked out again. However, I then read about the small battery, so not sure what to do now as the battery is the most important part.
I will wait and follow prices on both products and decide later which one to get.
If you want to compare specs between brands, you're not in the market for an iPad. Get the iPad for the app (and to a lesser degree accessories) ecosystem - eg it's worth it if you already have iPhone apps, a Mac, iCloud etc. If you just wanted a cheap TV screen, read books, surf the web etc, then maybe some other tablet could do the job.

It's a present, i wouldn't buy apple products for myself. It's to replace an ipad2, but the recipient also likes Samsung, so either one would be liked. However, I'd like her to still love it 6 months down the track. If it hadn't been for the battery I would definitely get the Samsung. But now I'm not sure, it's just such a big potential issue. The iPad is boring and overpriced and many small drawbacks, but it doesn't have any huge potential pitfall.
Edit: but yes, it will mostly just be used for browsing and we currently have no other apple products besides the ipad2.

If there's been a lot of investment from the App Store, sticking with the iPad would be a good idea. The iPad 2 has been great for most folks, but the iPad Air 2 is an amazing upgrade. If you think the iPad is "boring", you're gonna have a fun time with anything else!
Checked out the latest OW catalogue and its offering the $687 deal for CELLULAR MODEL!!!!! Its obviously an error but in the description it says Wifi and 4G LTE connectivity.
As a footnote, the website is offering the cellular model at $939!!!

I just picked up one from Officeworks Yarraville. I think my mother is going to spontaneously combust on her birthday as I've never been able to afford anything worth more than $100-150 max! She's still persevering with an iPad 2 that won't hold a charge and is basically dead slash has a mind of it's own. I can't wait to give it to her. Thank you! :)

Even though this price is still valid despite extremely low stock, I just thought I'd mention that it's also $679 at Costco with lots of stock (at least in North lakes). Valid until 31st of November I think it said.

OW currently have the iPad 2 Air on special again for $687. A couple of days ago they seemed to be sold out when I tried to buy but now saying dispatched next day for all colours. Just received mine today and ordered yesterday.

I was editing my reply after you've replied. Yeah, I've realized getting one from OW is the better way to go after I've read on their page saying, 'Leaves warehouse in 1-2 weeks. Why keep a sold product in a warehouse more than a week, unless they order it from the manufacturer after the customer orders it? Weird!
I have never had an issue with the products i've gotten from Kogan (none of which are kogan branded stuff..lol) but i know just as many would disagree, however in all that I've read the issue's i saw were mainly to do with delivery, if the item will be shipped in a few days there doesnt seem to be an issue and to be honest the 2 phones i got from them were delivered insanely quick for an overseas retailer.. however problems seem to arise when items have "Leaves warehouse in 1-2 weeks" as the shipping time… as is the case for the iPad.
That's the shop side of things, the biggest problem is the Warranty.. i haven't had to make a claim and the issue i had with my phone i just used the online chat and they helped me out pretty quickly .. so in this case you will not get apple's warranty which makes a big difference maker when buying apple products vs any other.. so thats the biggest decision in my opinion and in this case pay the extra.
