The manual would say 5w40 when new…now maybe 10w40..if she's got high km's and using alot of oil then use 20w50.

All relative to the climate where you live. Technically 90% of Australia would be in the 20w/50 category. Have run this stuff in a 2001 commodore for 400 000kms, still runs like new. BUT, lighter weight oils may bring better fuel economy (minimal) but will need more frequent changing (especially in Aussie summers). So, it will be fine in the Xtrail (especially over summer).
