Dell XPS13 (5th Gen i5 Processer 256GB 8GB RAM): $1599 Delivered Dell eBay/Dell Store

140

Was just browsing on the Dell site and came across this offer. Dell ebay sell it at the same price, but you can use the Ebay Cashrewards for further 2.5%. Good price for this unit.

Cashrewards have 5% cashback from Dell. (I have never bought from Dell direct using Cashrewards, I am unsure of this part)

They also have some codes on their site for additional 5% off for the Dell store, but if you use the codes, it nullifies the $400 discount already applied.

They also have the i7 on sale.

Note: this has a 1080p screen

  • awesome, but i can't buy as i have to sell my existing laptop before buying this :(

      Thanks for sharing. :)

    • Dealbreaker :(

    • Buy first then sell the old one.

  • How does this compare to say Asus Zenbooks or Asus ROG?

Is the RAM expandable? In the market for a video editing laptop.

  • Note: this has a 1080p screen (still great, but not the 4k one that a lot of people were interested in when this model was originally announced).

    • Thanks. Will update it.

I would prefer the 1080p version anyway for better battery and performance.

    • Have used both - I find the 1080p better for most environments, for battery and for weight (albeit not much weight)

Go to Dell from Cashrewards and get 5% cashback (no need to use any codes) instead of 2.5% from eBay.

    • Thanks. Updated. I wasnt sure if a normal 5% would work. I tried some of the codes which nullified the $400 discount. If its a straight up 5% discount, this is a much better deal than ebay

  • I have the i7, nice little package minus the fact it's died after 5 months and needs to be sent back.

    • Tough luck. But this has really good reviews. Hope you have a new unit. I was tossing up between this and the spectre x360. Ended up buying the x360 with the same spec for $1199 from Dick smith three weeks ago

      • I hear the xps don't have the best track pads though which would be annoying.

    • I have the previous generation XPS13 and had some issues with the screen (dead pixels), and must say at least their warranty/service team is on the mark, I had an issue with mine and they sent out a new one very quickly (while I still had the old one), sent technicians to my house at convenient times, etc. So even if you have a bad experience, they will take care of you at least.

    • My i7 had a few issues also .. ended up getting a refund after 30 days.

  • Similar price to the HP Spectre X360 posted a few days ago (that has since ended). Seems like the HP (i7, Gen 6) was the better machine?

    • I personally prefer the x360. But this unit is really good if people dont want the tablet styling. I got my x360 with the i5 5th gen for $1200. I wasnt tempted to spend over $1500 for an ultrabook

note that this is the previous generation xps 13 with the 5th gen CPU, not the new ones that just came out which are 6th gen. so this one also has no USB type C thunderbolt port, etc.

Agreed. But the new skylake ones are going to be more expensive. For this price, I think its a good deal for some people. I bought i5 x360 hp with the 5th gen over the skylake recently purely bcoz of the pricing

      • Ehhh.. Debatable. They had $300 off the new Skylakes last week, and sales were happy to offer 3 year NBD ProSupport for free. Made the total about $1800. I'll grab the details if you want?

Edit: Well ok, it looks like Dell have pulled all the Skylake XPS units from their AU site. WTF Dell!? :(

        • I guess it comes down to what you need. In my case, the sub $1200 pricing on the spectre was a no brainer bcoz i wanted the unit for a while. My prev hp tablet convertible lasted 6+ yrs until I decided to upgrade to Windows 10. And then I saw the deal for the x360, jumped on it straight away. Had the xps been cheaper, I would have got it purely bcoz of the 11 inch form factor

        • Dang. Your post seems to be a great deal. I didnt notice that at all. I cant seem to get the link to work though. I am assuming the deal might have ended?

Thats a great price for a 6th gen compared to this one.

  • Also available on Dell's websites http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/product…

    AS NEW - $1,499

    AS NEW - i7 w/ 3200 x 1800 display - $1,799

    • Some good prices. Not sure what they mean by AS NEW :D

      • From experience (have ordered a few Dells from the outlet) they are likely to be brand new. They used to label them NEW, so not sure why that has changed.

But yeah, great bargains to be had from the Dell Outlet site. It's one of the first places I check if I need a laptop.

As an XPS13 owner i say stay away.

    had multiple issues on mine

    ssd making noise
cpu fan coming on too often

both issues worse when using win10

had the mb, cpu and fun replaced twice, no difference.

staying with win8 where the issues aren't so bad

    • +1

A SSD making noise? How is that even possible- they don't have any moving parts?

Sorry to hear you has so many issues though, having everything replaced twice is crazy

      • I've had an SSD make noise with use. It was a heavily used and early generation one. It made a sound every time I scrolled through long documents etc.

        • yes it makes noises, i couldn't believe it to until the tech took the laptop apart and you could tell it was the ssd where the noise was coming from.
strangely is much worse on win10…..
