Great offer Jay and I know these won't last long. How is the sub-woofer project coming along?

Beat me to it CB! Exactly what I was about to say & ask :)

I just got excited and put two pairs in the Basket to add to the two I already have allowing me to build a nice little surround system… but then realised I don't actually NEED them so let them go for someone else to enjoy. These are great little speakers people and for $70 they represent great value!!

      • +1

I was the same and was going to buy another set until need won out over want. $70 is a steal.

      • you may like to have a look at this for your surround system Steve - Micca Centre and also available with crossovers

        • Yeah wow! $70AUD Shipped is amazing… but yeah, better to get the 'X' model with the crossover to keep the colour consistent but not for that money. May as well just bolt two Volls together end to end :)

      Hi Cornbeef,

Unfortunately not much progress regarding the subwoofer. We've found a couple of candidates and done some testing but we can't manage to get the price low enough in negotiations with the manufacturers - I think this is mainly because the volumes we are talking about importing are just too low. The state of dollar really does't help either.

No idea how good / bad it is but a customer did point out this to us: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Home-HiFi-8-Inch-200-Watt-Activeb… - it's the cheapest 8" subwoofer I know of in Aus right now ($99 shipped).

I have also heard ok things about the Wharfedale WA-8SB which is $250 shipped: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Wharfedale-BRAND-NEW-Achromatic-W…

      • Thanks for the info. The wharfedale would best suit the voll's aesthetically though at that mid price range I can't help but liking the Kanto Sub6. If only it was possible to import at a reasonable price.

  • I'm getting 83$ shipped to Metro Melbourne?

    • This might be a bug with our courier. Can you let me know your postcode or PM it to me and I'll try to sort it out.

      • I'm Melb 3000, Cheers

        • Sorry about that - was an issue with our website. Should be resolved now for everyone.

        • @chiefbodge: I'll try again in a sec but still no love

        • I think the results are cached for you - try entering 3001 instead of 3000, that should solve it. I'll changed the postcode back to 3000 when i send it.

        • @chiefbodge: sweet, paid just now. made it 3070 in place of 3000

  • does anyone know if i can pair this up with my z5500 without amp? I'm only running 2.1 setup and a bigger set of speakers would help.

    • +3

Unfortunately not - even if you unscrewed the satellites and tapped into the speaker cables there the logitech amplifier wouldn't have the power required to drive the B44

  • What kind of cables do I need to hook these to normal PC?

    • +2

      A cable with an Amplifier built-in ;)

Seriously though, these are 'passive' speakers so you'll need to run an Amp with them. Do you already have an Amp… even an old Amp laying around?

    • +1

As SteveAndBelle said these are passive speakers so you need an amp. At very least you need something like the Lepai LP-2020A+ ($25 on ebay without a power supply and about $40 with a power supply).

Thank you for the response.. :)

    • These speakers need to be powered by an amplifier:
      http://www.stereo.net.au/reviews/voll-b44-bookshelf-speakers…

You'll be fine if you already have a surround sound amplifier already plugged into your PC. Otherwise you'll have to invest in additional equipment. ie. a 5.1 surround amplifier or a stereo amplifier capable of handling 4Ω speakers.

When using the PC I'm a headphones person as they have better fidelity and hide the fan noise.

  • Spewing wanted these but went with the Swan M10 as I was waiting for these to drop a bit. Heard they are nice piece of kit matched with a good AMP

  • Thanks for the quick response to the email rep!

  • Purchased second last pair. Thanks rep.

  • Bought a pair with a SMSL SA-60 a month or two ago, couldn't be happier. Can't recommend them enough, especially at this price.

  • +2

All 12 pairs sold out. Amplifiers listed above still available. Thanks everyone!

    • How did I miss this?! Unlucky. Any deals in the future to look out for?

      • If you are still interested I think I have one more pair of seconds that need to have a woofer replaced - not sure when we'll get around to doing it but I can PM you if you'd like to see if you are still interested?

We don't have any regular specials planned - I would say it would be quite unlikely that we'll have anything in the next 3 months.

        • Yep definitely interested!

    • Hey chief,

Any chance of bringing back the special on the SMSL Q5 Pro pwetty pwease? My QLS QA100 stopped turning on and I need a replacement asap :(

      Also, is it v1, v2 or v3?

      • +1

Unfortunately there's not much I can do with the Q5 pro at the moment - the Q5 pro only has one version that I know of (it only went on sale about one and a half months ago now).

We do have one Q5 still available (SMSL Q5 - amplifier board replaced, as new condition, $130). It is version 2 but it has a replacement amplifier board from SMSL which has some issues resolved - it's not a version 3 board but it's not strictly a version 2 board either.

SMSL amps can be a bit hit and miss which is why in my opinion it's so important to buy from an Australian business - we provide full warranty including all shipping costs so if it does go wrong you aren't out of pocket.

If you want an amp that is almost guaranteed not to fail then the Topping amps we sell are completely rock solid, although they aren't great value compared to SMSL.

        • Thanks for getting back to me - I ended up taking a punt on the Topping VX2 from ebay. Agreed on the quality of Topping amps, I owned a TP20 Mk2, the little fella kicked far above its price bracket.

        • @pyr0maniac:

No worries - hope you enjoy your VX2. It looks like a great little amp, we'll definitely be getting some in next time we place an order with Topping.
