Free .me domain with an edu address, Not sure if all but tried it with mine (usyd) and it works.
Part of a deal last year here but most of its expired or worthless.

Works for alumni emails as well.
Also, I noticed that alumni emails allow free downloads of Microsoft Office 2013. Will try this later and report.

looks to be $26 a year after the first year but auto renewal is turned off by default.

FWIW, there's quite a few 2nd level domains free which can be used for websites.
I've used ***.CU.CC/ for a few years, hosted free thru host-ed.me, which has been very good.
