Can you provide some sample dates for this price (from Sydney)? I'm struggling to get anything under $2k…

    • I can find a few MEL-SCL-MEL fares for the $1100 - $1200, not quite as low as the advertised price. Note that when you click the departure date, it sets the return date price - by clicking the departure date in the left (departure flight) calendar you can see the prices varying in the right (return flight) calendar. That can result in a return flight varying by up to $250.

    Sample dates: 15-22 Nov, 15 Nov–27 Dec, 15 Nov–5 Feb

  • I am really liking momondo. I'm finding them to provide cheaper options than most websites.

    • Be very careful. Some of the linked websites momondo uses in its searches are unreliable and use the 'speculative booking' technique. Eg helloworld, edreams

More details on this speculative booking technique?

In short, they quote a low price with the intention of receiving as many bookings as possible, then request the airline to honour the (lower than the airline's actual) price due to sheer volume of bookings. Often the airlines won't, and your booking will be cancelled by the e-travel agency a week or so before your flight. Of course, they've already withdrawn funds from your account, and often you have to wait 6+ weeks to receive any of your cash back. Plenty of people have posted about it on TripAdvisor etc - best to google search whether any particular site is reliable before you book. Hope that helps!

@Bluewhisky: just to clarify, I'm not questioning momondo's reliability - it's simply a search engine for other travel websites, of which some are pretty damn dodgy

  • Great deal!

  • Nice

Also shows $933 from Brisbane via Sydney (eg 15/11-27/12).

  • Anything for EZE (Buneos Aires)?

    • Probably cheaper buying a separate ticket from SCL to EZE.

I assumed the code for Buenos Aires would've been CHE

      • Wikipedia says he was born in Rosario, 300km from Buenos Aires. Unfortunately, the Rosario-Islas Malvinas International Airport uses the code ROS…

  • Couldn't find anything from Sydney. Was looking to go in Feb-Mar period anyways.

  • Can you guys please confirm to get this fare from MEL, you must 'depart' on November 15th? All other dates were 1k more expensive.

  • Gah i can't really justify going to Chile for 3 months just to save a few hundred bucks…………..can i??

  • Dates starting December or Jan?

  • Does anyone know if this sale is yearly? Might try and go next year, if the sale is predictable

  • Has anyone been able to buy a ticket at that price? I've tried going the opposite way (SCL-SYD-SCL) and while momondo estimates the price to be around $1k, all the prices are around $2.4k instead…. :(

    • Agreed, can't find any dates with those prices

  • damn, finishing exams on the 20th of november…and so far, I am unable to find anything below 2k. I'd be over there in a heartbeat for less than 1k!!!
Patagonia is awesome, and october-april is the best time to go.
santiago is also a really cool city

Just a warning/heads up to those people thinking about flying to Chile. Australians (people with an Australian passport) need to pay an entry fee if they are flying to Chile, or more specifically, Santiago International Airport – officially called “Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport”.

Last time I checked (Sept 2015), the fee is about $117 USD. Previously the fee only applied for 90 days, however it now applies for the life of the passport.

Good deal nonetheless, if you want to explore beautiful South America!

How does this site work? Why is there an "Estimated price per adult" of ~$930 but everything below it is $1900+?
