Unlocked Google Nexus One Android 2.1 by HTC

Be the first to own this phone in Australia!

Have a look at the wiki on whirlpool for info about getting one yourself rather than from 1saleDay. You could save yourself $125, but you need to have some good proxy foo and there are many steps in the process…

http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/?tag=Google_Phone

Also I wouldn't expect them to have a lot of stock so get it sooner rather than later, but be aware you are paying a premium price here for convenience.

This is cut 'n paste from 1saleDay…
The Nexus One features a 3.7in AMOLED display, with a 800x480 resolution. The screen has a 100,000:1 contrast ratio and a response time of 1ms. It has an illuminated trackball which can emit different colors of light based on the type of notification being received. The phone has two microphones, one on the front and one on the back, to enable noise cancellation to reduce background noise during phone conversations. A standard 3.5 mm headphone jack is also provided.

The phone features a 1 GHz Qualcomm 8250 processor, 512 MB of RAM, a 4 GB microSD card, 512 MB of internal Flash storage, a 5MP auto-focus camera with LED flash and digital zoom, GPS receiver, light and proximity sensors, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, and 802.11b/g/n Wifi capabilities. It provides hardware decoding for H.263, H.264 and MPEG-4 video, and is capable of playing MP3, AAC+, Ogg Vorbis, WAV, and MIDI audio, and displaying the JPEG, GIF, PNG, and BMP image formats. It has a standard micro USB port rather than the proprietary HTC connector, and the microSD card slot allows expansion up to 32 gigabytes of card storage. Applications can only be installed to the 512MB internal flash memory, of which 190MB are available for that purpose. During unveiling, it was mentioned that Google might eventually lift this restriction after addressing security issues.

The phone weighs 130 grams (4.6 oz), with a height of 119 millimetres (4.7 in), a width of 59.8 millimetres (2.35 in), and a depth of 11.5 millimetres (0.45 in). It is powered by a removable 1400 mAh battery, expected to last up to 290 hours on standby, 10 hours talk time, or 5 hours while browsing the internet.

  • I think its a good deal. Its a bit daunting for some ppl to have to set up accounts thru comgateway, priceusa etc.

This is a local company, and u could complete the checkout in 5 mins and not stress about cancelled orders, delivery fees, custom fees, and whatever else can go wrong.

  • FWIW… http://www.taranfx.com/nexus-one-vs-iphone-3gs
Comments are worth reading as well

  • Anyone know if Sale-a-day actually have these in stock and will delivery immediately?

    • It says 5-10 days. My guess is they DO NOT have stock and will order them tonight once this is done. Or have already started ordering and are using friends credit cards and addresses and mutiple google accounts to do the checkout.

    • Unlikely, I'm looking forward to seeing how all this pans out though. :)

  • video sux @ 720x480 @ 20fps :(

    • +1

Conversly you can say that iPhone's video also sux @ 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second

    • +1

You forgot to add the iPhanboi mantra line, here let me help you…
"iPhone RULZ everything else SUX lol"
In fact, save some space next time and just blurt out the mantra by itself.

    • i don't like iphones.. i was really looking forward to the nexus one but yeah just a little disappointed the video quality is only 20fps.. a bit of a relief that multitouch is supported but only in 3rd party apps

      • ok, well maybe next time add a bit more detail. But 20fps doesn't really suck, and it isn't a measure of quality either.
EDIT: Oh, I forgot to add… GOOGLE RULZ everything else SUX lol.

Wait for the Bravo to come out 720p support.

    • +3

24fps was, probably still is the accepted cinema standard.

Didn't hear anyone complaining about that! Lol.

  • It's not that hard at all to place order. There is even instruction in Whirlpool wiki, all you need to do is download "Hotshield". It will connect to US VPN network and you just need to place order, you don't need to search for proxy.

    • That is only the very first step.
Step 2 (in fact step 0.5) Set up an account with a trustworthy US mail forwarding company, and realise that they have extra sales tax in most states (comGateway's state doesn't).
Step 3 Wait while Google processes your order, and potentially blocks your account and then requests scans of drivers licence, bills etc.
Step 4 Wait until it arrives at your forwarder and wait until they notify you.
Step 5 pay the forwarder their forwarding shipping costs and also their fees.
Step 6 Wait until it arrives from your forwarder.

Many things can and have gone wrong at each step. And this is just getting the phone. If you need to send it back for warranty you have to ship international, and then back through your forwarder again all at your expense.

        http://www.shipito.com/shop-pricing#individual

US$8.50 flat fee. A bunch of people on WP have used them and had no problems getting their N900s.

        • +1

Yeah, thats just their "cut", but the full amount using shipito goes like this…
          Shipito.com $530USD + $49 Sales tax (CA 9.25%) + $8.50USD agent fee + approx $50USD shipping to AU = $701AUD

And you still have all those steps above, and will be out of pocket if there are warranty issues too.

          • @stumo: Yes, the diffence is still $110, which can make it or break it for some people. I bought my Milestone from a local shop for $100+ more than importing it myself just for the warranty and near-instant gratification.

Overseas shipping is more like US$35. If you know someone there, the $120-130 savings can be put towards mailing it back and forth for warranty if repairs are actually required down the road.

          • @stumo: what about addy.us? It is $685 Delivered and they order for you.
            http://addy.us/index.php/google-nexus-one

            • @samehada: Yes that looks good, although I'd be using their $710 PayPal option, rather than that $685 via bank transfer!

  • What carrier/plan do people think is best for their nexus ones?? A lot of included data would be ideal of course, with call costs factoring also. It's really the same question as could be posed for the iphone.

I realise this could start a whole new thread if people get on on it, but meh … let me know because I'm really curious!

    • I'm on Virgin Mobile with my android phone. You can get the plus plans that come with data, and add on more if needed. Right now I'm on a $45 plan that comes with $250 calls and 300MB data. An extra 300MB is $10, extra 1GB is $15. They bill voice calls per-minute, but as I rarely make calls, it doesn't bother me at all.

Another alternative if you barely make calls is Exetel's HSPA plan.. $0/month, data billed per kb, works out to be about $15/GB. If you use less, you pay less. Calls are extra. Very good for people who really only use data on their phones. They use the Optus network.

  • As noted on the WP wiki you can get it delivered to you in Australia for $627 AUD (don't know where the 125 crap came from) it's even less now due to exchange rate. This isn't a bargain this is just a lazy way for people too stupid to follow a 3 step process and order one themselves.

You certainly won't be the first people in Australia to have one if you order through this server, it has been out since the 4th of Jan lol, had them here since the 8th.

Google sells only 5 per checkout account so if you all order through one company they will get a massive backlog and take weeks to get your phone.

Anyway read the google thread if you can't work out for yourself how to order one.

Anyone order one from these guys?

    Have you received it yet?
