    Who (student) has 5 devices???

    • +2

iPhone, iPad, Mac (for uni), Desktop (home), maybe add Mum's laptop/ipad. Done.

      • +1

still 4 without counting your mom.

    • phone, tablet, lounge htpc, desktop, laptop, mac, gaming/guest machine, patio htpc

not to mention it is also for staff and alumni

  • Does it store all the documents in the "cloud"? Is it possible to use it while not connected to internet?

    • Works as normal. You can download the full 2016 install and do everything offline.

  • I have a full version of Office 2007 and access to this Office365 through my alumni email address. As it's available as alumni, I'm guessing it's unlikely to be removed 'when I finish studying' :) so is there any disadvantage to going Office365 over my full 2007 version?

  • worked for SO's staff account at UQ - @uq.edu.au

  • This isn't free. Your university is paying for this via your tuition fees, that's why only select universities are eligible. They should have notified you if you're eligible.

It's a great 'deal', sure, I guess extra publicity can't hurt.

    • Correct me if I am wrong but schools and universities do not pay for any Microsoft programs. So, if the students grow up using this software they are highly unlikely to want any other.

Same reasoning applies for teachers; give it to them free and they will want, or wish to be trained themselves (staff education is usually paid for by schools or if not, claimed as legitimate tax deduction as necessary education expense for one's occupation).

Therefore Microsoft pretty much has the next generation buying their software when they leave. I guess you could call that a monopolizing effect.

It's free to students and staff in the sense that staff get Windows and Office 'free', and students are getting Office 'free' in deals such as this. But I can confirm that yes, Uni's still pay MS for the subscription costs (and Adobe). Not $130ea like Office/Windows RRP, but they still get paid.

        • Thank you for correcting me. I remember being told this by a secondary school teacher; albeit quite a few years ago. Not sure but I also thought that Microsoft offered awards / scholarships to self promote too. Perhaps that is only overseas though.

        • @JediJan: MS offers some kinda program where they provide Windows/Office for $0 for charitable organisations that are not-for-profit. Application only, granted on case-by-case basis.

I'm unsure about government-funded secondary schools. They probably do get stuff like student lab machines with free software, but I don't know. Private schools likely don't?

Public universities though, definitely do pay for pretty much everything. Bulk subscription, $/user.

  • works with @education.nsw.gov.au (primary/high school)

  • does it ever verify years later?

  • @uwa.edu.au works

  • "Sorry…
We can't finish signing you up.

Your IT department has turned off signup for Office 365 Education. Contact them to complete signup."

@canberra.edu.au does not appear to work

Just login to UC webmail then click on the cog, then select "Office 365 Settings", then click Software and you should be able to install it assuming you're an active student at UC.
BTW the email address for students will always be <student number>@uni.canberra.edu.au

      • ah. Thanks for that!! Forgot the "uni" bit on my email

        • Yes that's on my very long list of UC annoyances… the policy of "all correspondence will be to uc student email account" which seems to have been interpreted as "all correspondence must be from your UC student email account" combined with their pathetic excuse for an outsourced information technology arrangement means I'm currently at a 3:1 completion on my split double, despite the ANU course plan being a year shorter than the UC one.

Note: Perhaps stupidly I'm doing a split double at ANU/UC, my list of annoyances at ANU is significantly shorter I can assure you and is limited mostly to the attitude of some of the lecturers (read: researchers) and faculty (read: drones).

  • how does the 5 PC thing work? Do I have to login as the edu email to use Office365?

    • When you install you will be required to activate via your O365 email (i.e. your *edu.au)

It keeps a log which you can view at https://portal.office.com and you can also deactivate any legacy devices that way too.

      i.e. I have:

      DESKTOP-JJ2DL6O Microsoft Windows 10 Education 8/14/2015 Deactivate
      PBRI-WS-001 Microsoft Windows 10 Education 9/8/2015 Deactivate
      PBRI-MAIR-01 Mac OSX 10.10.5 9/16/2015 Deactivate

  • Does anyone know if this works with Macquarie university?

  • +2

    Works for @student.rmit.edu.au

  • Works for @uds.anu.edu.au

  • Works for my.jcu.edu.au

Too bad RMIT alumni does not get any email address :(

  • @student.monash.edu works ;)

  • works for @mymail.unisa.edu.au :)

  • +1

    @student.unsw.edu.au doesn't work

    • +2

It actually works — just goes to your zmail account and logon, then click the "Office 365" banner on the left top, you will see all the service linked with your zmail account. then you will find option for download office to your pc or mac. It's already there for a while, really — at least I used this from the beginning of this semester. Guess the uni just purchased that for us, the rest on the free list here might just promotion from MS.

    • Interesting article. I was half wondering if it was written in jest. I am still wondering why Microsoft no longer call it's Internet "portal" Explorer but Edge now.

Sorry; cannot do a "+" for you right now as your comment was over 30 days old … but I would have.

  • How do I download the apps locally? This online stuff is laggy…

  • Works for @tafesa.edu.au

  • I can confirm that @uni.sydney.edu.au is working

  • @schools.sa.edu.au does not work.

Staff and Students in SA Public Schools.

    • Yes, I noticed that.

      How typical.

      Why should we miss out?

      • Because the government doesn't want to make taxpayers subsidise Microsoft indirectly through the public school system?

        • +1

Agreed. Why should students and teacher have Office! As if they would ever use it. They'd probably just play games!

      1. Click the link
      2. Sign in using your uni/college/schools email address (it may/may not additionally re-direct you to sign in using your uni's portal)
      3. Once signed in it will take you back to Microsoft's Website. You will now be looking at the Microsoft Office 365 Portal Home Page.
      4. Look for the download Microsoft Office button on the Home Page
      5. Click Download.

Alternatively: You can click the Settings icon (picture of a gear) on the top right hand side of the home page; Click "Office 365 Settings", under the software heading click "Install and manage software" and you can also download from here by clicking the "Install" button.

In this page you can choose between 32 and 64 bit versions (under the "version" heading click "advanced" to choose between the two.

And you can also deactivate any device you have installed Office 365 on (for example; you may have reached your limit of 5 devices or you bought a new computer and sold the old one etc etc.)

    • your problem is you need REAL name or student number - you cant just make one up.

  • Does it expire in 12 months?

  • Works with University of Notre Dame email: @my.nd.edu.au

  • If a student installs Office on a PC, can all users of that PC use the software, or is it only available to the student?

  • Works for @student.bond.edu.au

  • I already had Office365 for students previously - does anybody know how to update to Office 2016 version? When I go to the install page or update via the individual programs themselves, it claims I already have the latest version (15.0.4753.1003) which isn't 2016.

  • QUT had been "investigating the best way to enable this feature" since at least the start of the year…

  • for UNSW students, instead of using <name>@student.unsw.edu.au, try <zID>@zmail.unsw.edu.au
also the office 2016 rollout for 365 education is expected Q1 2016 according to http://winsupersite.com/office-2016/when-will-i-get-office-2…

  • Awesome! and i was just about to spend $20 to get it =D =D

    FYI @alumni.uts.edu.au works

  • Deakin University email addresses work.

  • Just installed this and it installed all the 2013 versions. Why not 2016?

  • Works for @student.adelaide.edu.au

  • Should work for QLD public school students: http://education.qld.gov.au/learningplace/help/home-computer…
    Different portal though

  • Swinburne Uni has this for ages so it works for .student.swin.edu.au

  • Works for Macquarie Uni @students.mq.edu.au

  • Worked for me @griffithuni.edu.au

  • Alumni.adelaide and acu.edu.au both work.

  • Does anybody know how these University "subscriptions" work? Do you get upgrades whenever the latest version is released, or do you just get a licence to keep using whatever version you install until you graduate?

I signed up for this last year, but I can't get the 2016 upgrade (My account install page just says "Install Office 365 ProPlus with 2013 apps") and the "How to upgrade" help is useless 'coz it just says the new version will be available from the install page.

  • Attention, 2016 Version is now available!!!

    • Cool, thanks! Had wondered (several times) whether these would be available to previous sign-ups!

  • Can anyone download microsoft office at this time? I keep getting a "bad request" error message.

  • Does not work for @live.vu.edu.au
