Hi guys, I was looking at the Amazon 15% off deals and came across this diskless NAS. By itself it doesn't qualify for the Amazon/Amex 15% off promotion, but I bought it with a 3TB HDD in a bundle for $USD208 (bottom of the link). The 15% off essentially paid for the $40 shipping fee. Total came to $AUD307 shipped, not bad for a 2 bay NAS and 3TB disk.

Not a very good deal. It is $129 at shopping express. Local warranty. In past it had been for $99 multiple times.

  • Has synology nas ever been on specials?

  • Sorry, agreed no deal.

$129 pick-up at multiple local retail shops and I too have seen it for $99 on special. http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=Rn102&spos=…

3TB drives cost less than $130 locally too, so under $260 for NAS plus HDD with Aussie warranty.

Never buy any computer related stuff without checking staticice.com.au

If it was the 302 model (far superior) for that price, that would be a nice deal.

    • Agreed. I went for the 312 which is still a 2 Bay but has a stronger CPU. This reduces lag and allows plex etc to run well (except for xcoding). Very happy with the 312 unit after 6 months. One of those rare products that just works. Serving out cifs, nfc reliably. Don't know what a good current price would be for 312 but I paid $260 from MSY.

      • Mmm I may have meant the 312 model, rather than 302. Ive got the same model, as well as an HP Gen8 microserver running XPEnology to replace it.

Yeah the faster CPU and extra RAM makes a big difference.

FYI you can also run XPEnology (Synology OS) on the Netgear 300 series if you want, I have done it, just means booting off a USB stick, although there is a way to flash the boot image onto the internal memory.

        • Ok thanks. I've got it running the way I want with mysql databases running on usb sticks etc and I don't care to configure again for a while so I'll keep it as it is for now. I actually choose the Rn over the hp because I wanted to get up and running quickly and without messing around with oses and configurations etc. I haven't wanted for any finer tuning so far.

Looks like the dollar has affected the price of the 312.

    • yeah, check staticice.com.au and msy ….. that usually gives you a good idea if it's a bargain or not.

  • So if I cancel my Amazon order (it's not shipped yet) do I get charged a restocking fee?

    • No, you won't be charged anything by Amazon.

  • Thanks guys, order canceled. Im ashamed to call myself an ozbargainer.

  • I'm also looking for cheap NAS to share media around home… can you suggest best option..
