Thanks OP. Was going to purchase this for $119 which was cheap compared to RRP, but this has saved me a few dollars. Thanks heaps!

Should never have an rrp of $169 anyway

Saw these in a brochure the other day, what is the deal with these, and why are they so damn expensive!

    • +1

      This is the deal:

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kmnrwfDewo

They are that expensive because millions of families with kids in the right age group will absolutely shell out that much for it.

Lego movie games are big business (and rightly so, they're pretty good).

It does look awesome, playing Back to the Future, and every incarnation of Dr Who, and Lord of the Rings, and Lego Movie, and DC characters, and even stuff like The Wizard of Oz, all together (often with the real actors voicing, in the case of Dr Who and BttF).

But I'm interested to see if it will eventually hit a more reasonable price point…

It's a Toys to Life game similar to Skylanders and Disney Infinity but with Lego sets featuring The Simpsons, Doctor Who, Portal 2, Lord of the Rings, Scooby Doo, Ghostbusters, Back to the Future.
Expensive because Lego and licensing all of the different franchises. They're also claiming unlike Skylanders and Disney Infinity, it's a once off starter pack release and they may come out with new content over the next few years but they wont need to bring out a Lego Dimensions 2 next year with a different portal.

      • I like that having an Internet connection is stated as a requirement for Lego Dimensions, so that you can download content for new packs that are released. I was hoping that Disney Infinity would be like this, though it turned out to be on disc DLC with no possibility of adding new figures later on. Hopefully Lego releases new content for the game for at least 2 - 3 years!

My kids are super-excited about this game, but as an OzBargainer I can't help seeing it as basically a very clever way to sell DLC for $17 a pop.

No PC version either, I'm wondering if I should by a second-hand 360 or just wait.

(Disney Infinity is finally on Steam now, and without such ridiculous pricing as at launch. Maybe eventually the various characters and add-ons will hit a reasonable price during sales? But currently you're still looking at USD $6 per character there, and USD $130 for mega packs with a bunch of characters. I bought all the lego games my kids love for less than $6 each in steam sales).

I agree with it being clever DLC, but at least with this I get something physical I can display and add to my Lego collection!

    • even new x360 are cheap, even cheaper used.

Doubt it would even go low as this near Xmas.

Must resist! This is just a financial blackhole!

    It's pulling me in!!!!!!!

    Oh lord… must…. hold backkk!!! Wallet… crying… already!

        Nooooooo!!! Yessss

      • Bastiches! I used the last of my two 15% codes this morning on Portal and Jurassic World (and added something else to get the free postage) then they add Scooby and the other stuff. Humph. :\

  • OP: There's also Zane and Ninjacopter up: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-LEGO-Dimensions-Fun-Pack-Ninj…

I'm totally caving if they do add Xbox One before the deal ends.

    • Thanks, I've add it to the list.

  • PS4 starter pack out of stock :(

  • be aware im pretty sure that buying a character opens up an adventure area from their world.
you therefore receive afventures from superhero world, lotr and lego movie with the initial packs.
not a full level packs worth tho.
so initially it may not be worth buying lotr packs etc as you already have that adventure - unless u really want the character

Hoping the PS4 version comes back in stock.

Cracked… Bought the Wii U Starter Pack and all three Level Packs :)

I justified the purchase by telling myself there will not be a "Lego Dimension 2.0 Giants Swap Force Trap Team Superchargers" next year.

  • Was about to shoot over to Target-Rhodes at lunch to buy one. Glad I checked here first.

  • More packs came up now (Back to the future & others)

  • Picked some up in store…. I thought the CLICK15 could only be done once (I have already hit around $98 discount..). Apparently not… FFS.

  • Just goes to show how much all the others stores are milking this franchise.. Cheapest I seen for release was $159.

Still way more expensive than infinity but great price for target at $119

Xbox one out of stock now hopefully can grab one next month with the $50 voucher.

Starter pack and Simpson's for my daughter…I swear.

  • PS3 starter.. Emmett.. Jurassic Park and Ninjago Zane.. wtf are you doing to me OzB!

  • +5

Just found this in the Kotaku review

In order to unlock all of the content available at launch — there are releases scheduled well into next year —

you’ll have to buy the starter kit,
three $US30 level packs — Portal, The Simpsons and Back to the Future – each of which also come with standalone adventure levels,
two $US25 team packs — Scooby Doo and Jurassic World
three $US14.99 fun packs — one Chima, one Ninjago and The Wizard of Oz

  • If you are in to all these things the Skylanders Superchargers packs are a good too at $54.. they are below the free delivery price so only good if you are buying other things, like the exclusive Nitro Stinger Stealth for $17.

Just returned my starter pack and Stealth to Target and reordered at a discount through eBay with the Lego Dimensions starter too … yes they have me hook, line and sinker …

    • I would also recommend buying one of the boat vehicles if you're wanting to collect everything in the game.

      • Already got the Sea Racing Action Pack for $30 price match against BigW at EBgames, Target did not have that one on the eBay store so did not take it back for repurchase.

  • Scooby Doo looks to be out of stock

  • Marty Mcfly out of stock

  • And now I'm just sittin' here hitting refresh on the Xbox One version every few minutes…

    • +1

maybe buy the 360 version then exchange at a store for the xbone version as they were the same price

What a day for me. woke up early to arrive Big W and paid $119. found out 5% discount on cashreward, bought wish gift card. evening drove to have refund of $119 and repurchased with wish gift card invested $114. Saw this post, bought another one via cashreward via eBay Target for $101. Tomorrow, will go and get money back from Big W. save $18 - worth the effort.

  • A few more Portal, Simpsons, Wizard of Oz, and Benny are up now. Still no Xbox One or PS4 starters though.

EDIT: Well that was quick, Portal all gone again.
