  • Each to their own, but I wouldn't use mineral oil even if you paid me….

    • +3

depends on what kind of car you have

the above oil is fine if your have camry corolla falcodore or common car

      • Even with those cars I still wouldn't go below semi-synthetic…it's only a few dollars and for and you're only changing it every 6-12 months…what's a few extra dollars?

The only time I'd use mineral oil in the above cars would be if they had bad oil leaks and needed topping up weekly with oil.

        • Agreed. Anything you want 15k intervals you need a semi syn. Otherwise it breaks down too much. What's another $7-9 nowadays when cars are so costly to do major work on.

    • Just change it more often. The advantage of synthetics is that they maintain their shear strength for longer.

  • Dont know what you can put 15/40 in nowadays, it a bit thick for anything newish.

    • Depends on where you live. The lower number is the cold viscosity; if it doesn't get especially cold where you live then you probably don't need to worry about the low cold viscosity.

  • What would go in a Mazda 2 2011 model?

    • Definitely at least a semi synthetic 15w40. I'd check a lube finder tool in the nulon or shell website. Could even be a full synthetic being a small Mazda if 15k service intervals are in play.

      • Supercheap have a screen in store now to tell you what oil is best for your car instore :) But I would have thought it should be 10W/30 or 5W/30 but its tricky if you leave it for 15000ks :o http://cararac.com/engine_oil/mazda/2.html
