THE ORIGINAL DISTRICT FIXIE

Lightweight, Simple, Low maintenance and completely rad.

Featuring a strong high tensile frame. Aluminium double wall, deep V aero rims with machined braking surface. Fast on the flats and easy on the hills. Perfect for Male or Female. Ideal for commuting around the city, fitness and lifestyle riding.

Our fixies are all equipped with a rear flip-flop hub, meaning you can choose between single speed (freewheel) or fixed gear setup by simply taking the wheel out and turning it round. Both options use a single gear ratio, meaning only the one gear. The single speed setup allows you to coast (stop pedaling whilst the wheels are in motion, just like any normal bike). The fixed gear setup takes away to ability to coast. The rear cog is attached or ‘fixed’ to the rear wheel which means whenever the bike is in motion, the pedals will go around. When the rear wheel turns, the pedals turn in the same direction, so you’re always pedaling.

Single speed and fixed gear bikes have become the ultimate in todays urban jungle.

Hipster accessories are starting to go out of style.. next, discounted beard products.

    • we have already had them

  • Can you explain how it is "easy on the hills" when the bike is a single speed/ fixed gear?

    • +2

If you find changing gears really taxing then this takes that right out of the equation.

    • A single speed won't be easier but if you have the right gear ratio on a fixie I find it easier than on my 21 speed to go up a hill… Going down a steep hill is f$&king scary

  • completely rad - please explain how that is a factor to buy this?
How do the bikes stop? they have no brakes……

      Peddle backwards?

All bike come with front and rear brakes.

If you have the fixed cog side active then to stop you simply pedal slower. If you have the free-wheel side active then you have choices: you can either stick the sole of your shoe on the tyre like I used to as a kid, or you can use nearby objects to slow you down - such as pedestrians and cars. I've tried the latter and it wasn't a good option.

    • On these hipster fixies, the chain directly sends power to the back wheel, and the pedals will continue moving while the back wheel is moving. If you resist this force with your legs, you will slow down.

It's bloody dangerous and reckless to use in public, in my opinion. Having no front brake is an absolutely ridiculous proposition, because you'll only have a fraction of the stopping power, and you will most likely stack it in an emergency braking situation.

Sorry for the misleading images. All bikes come with front and rear brakes attached and free wheel engaged.

        • +1

Yes, I noticed you said that.

I wasn't talking about your bikes in particular. It's just my opinion on the whole trend.
