"be a natural person" well that rules me out !

  • I have a faulty Teac 32"… are there any conditions on what constitutes a trade in TV? You would assume any TV bound for the rubbish bin wouldn't you?

  • input the name and location of the Recycling Centre that they delivered their Trade-In TV to

So no proof of actually doing this is required?

    "Samsung SUHD TVs"

    Super Ultra High Definition Televisions?

  • +4

These are all very expensive TV's :P

Better value to buy a cheaper one and just keep your old one?

    • Or in my case, still recycle the old one and buy a cheaper one anyway. Looking at the sales on at TGG, JB, Dick Smith etc atm, the non-4k TV's are finally hitting the sub $2k mark (even for 60''). Now it's really whether you want 100MHz or 200, curved or not…

  • +1

my 2 cents, This deal is for people who wanting to spend $4500+ on SUHD TVs (mainly series 8 or 9)
Also these TVs are 55"+ in size so no good for people looking for small TVs..

  • Curved Television screen? Nope!

    • Care to explain why?

      • -3

I suspect because these are not great for families (or even watching a Footy Grand Final with friends) - unless you're not sitting in the dead-centre sweetspot, you'd be better off with a flat panel.

        • +2

Not really I own one and it looks great from every angles, in fact if you watch it from an angle it is actually clearer than a flat one because the curve surface deflects light

    • -2

Oh please, you probably slice your own bread.

      • Are you implying that curved TVs are the best thing since sliced bread? :)

        • +1

It doesn't matter what a downvoted comment was implying.

    • +3

I agree - I hate them. They're a fad. Can't fit them into spaces, hang them, watch them from the side and you have to buy matching sound bars (straight ones look silly).

      • -1

lol sound bars may look sleek & nice but they make the owners look silly!
        Home Theater Systems FTW.

Looking around, here's some indicator of price ranges (excl trade in, as of 24/9, eoe):

Samsung Series 8 55 inch SUHD TV (model: UA55JS8000WXXY) - $300 trade in

    Dick Smith - $2799
    JB - $2998
    TGG - $2895
    Myer - $3229.15
    Harvey - $3295

Samsung Series 8 65 inch SUHD TV (model: UA65JS8000WXXY)

    Dick Smith - Unavailable
    JB - $4496
    TGG - $4495
    Myer - $4674.15
    Harvey - $4695

Samsung Series 9 55 inch Curved SUHD TV (model: UA55JS9000WXXY) - $500 trade in

    Dick Smith - Unavailable
    JB - $3496
    TGG - Unavailable
    Myer - Unavailable
    Harvey - $3196

Samsung Series 9 65 inch Curved SUHD TV (model: UA65JS9000WXXY)

    Dick Smith - Unavailable
    JB - $4996
    TGG - $4995
    Myer - $4799
    Harvey - $5345

    • At the moment, the DS 55'' at $2799 seems an excellent deal. They're also offering a code GET100 bringing the price to $2699. End cost, plus delivery - $2450. Comparing with a Series 7 (around $2195), you're paying $250 for 4K, a lower and thinner profile TV. Whether it's worth it, more future proof?

    • Keep in mind how the retailers will handle the "trade in". Will they collect your old TV for free?

      • They don't touch it (unless it's Harvey or TGG). You're able to take it to your local Zero Waste or Council recycling station, drop it off, get a receipt for it and use that as proof of recycling.

Hmm, my 5 year old UA55C7000 seems to fetch much more than that 2nd hand,
    will wait 'n see

  • +1

Sounds like an irresponsible promotion to me. Even if a tv is taken to a recycling centre it still results in a significant amount of waste. They are basically encouraging you to do this rather than sell it on or give it to someone else who could make good use of it which would be more environmentally friendly.

    • Not really. Take my current TV - coming on 10 years old. TCON board is screwed so it's becoming unwatchable. Because of its age, the speakers can't cope and it chews the juice compared to newer LCD LED TVs. Sure, if you're throwing out a TV less than 5 years old, you're a little dim and someone could use it. But this is well suited for the likes of me!
